  1. Thanks for that update Tarnalberry! I didn't get Advair until after my son was born, but like I said, the steroids made him CRAZY! I use Serevent, which is just the Salmeterol and I have had no problems. But I don't have to use it all the time. Certain times of the year, and when I start running again. I know that my OBGYN called in my inhaler Rx when I was...
  2. I'm not sure where you got your info or what meds you are talking about, but that is not correct. If you are using a regular fast acting inhaler, I would be shocked if any DR told you to not use it during your pregnancy. The general thought is this: If YOU are not getting enough oxygen, neither is your baby. I could see that being the case for an inhaled...
  3. I agree, you need to speak with your DR to help with the interpretation of the results. I find it sad that DR's just give the results to people and don't feel the need to offer any explanation... mine did just that. In her case, I'm not sure that she herself knew what they meant. I found more information by doing exactly what you are... googling and...
  4. This is a rockin thread!! I really appreciate your positive post and finding the good out of the bad. I am 25, and thought I cannot continue this way. I will not make it to 40, and if I do, I'll be in a wheelchair and won't be able to walk at all. For me, discovering my problems with gluten have probably saved my life. I caught things pretty early, and...
  5. Yeah, I agree with the others. If you are doing better outside of your home, then you should get your home tested. I know where I live, radon is a huge issue, especially in new communities. A friend of mine put in a bid on a townhouse that is no more than 2 or 3 years old, and the radon levels were unreal. Apparently, this is a common problem throughout the...
  6. I am all too familiar with the shortness of breath... It might not be so bad if he does give you something, probably just a fast acting inhaler or something along those lines. It's better to be able to breathe than not. (and I am NOT an advocate of handing out drugs!) Oddly enough, I did my initial elimination diet to see if something was 1)causing my headaches...
  7. Welcome to the Forum!! There is lots of info on here, so please ask any question. The list for Celiac symptom/signs is sooo long! And most people don't have what is considered the "classic" symptoms. I actually just found out that weight gain can also be a symptom. When your body is not absorbing, it doesn't want to let anything go. So, if you have stubborn...
  8. Could you post them on here so the experts can take a look... lol
  9. I have hypoglycemic tendencies. I bought a book last year called "The Healing Power of Foods" and it basically went through all the most common foods and gives all the health benefits of them. It helped me to learn which foods helped stabilize blood sugar (like beans, olives, rice, etc) and the benefits of complex carbs in small, frequent amounts. There is...
  10. Hi! Welcome to the Boards!!! This is a great place to ask any questions or vent or whatever! I had pretty severe exhaustion, too. I could still work, but after I got home at 2 pm, it was over from there. It took me a while to get over that, although I felt much better pretty quickly going gluten-free. You have only temporarily been set back, things...
  11. I know EXACTLY what you mean! My I think my aunt has Celiac as well as my cousin (her daughter). They both complain about how they don't feel good when they eat gluten, but my cousin says "I just LOVE a turkey sandwich." Well, I do too, but I love feeling good even more. And my aunt who, to her credit, stays away from wheat products; except when it's a cake...
  12. How many days have you been including bread?
  13. I think that children tend to be low in IgA anyway, which makes the Celiac tests done on children so inconclusive. I had a low IgA (19) and the range was 80-200something. The doctor said it was fine. (She is not too Celiac savvy though) Since then, I have read that somewhere around 30% of the population is IgA deficient, so if you are being tested for...
  14. A woman I know that has Celiac found out because she was losing weight ( 5'2" @85 lbs- YIKES!) and didn't know why. She had no other "typical" symptoms. She found out later that the difficulty swallowing was a symptom and those were the only two she had. She is totally gluten-free and doesn't cheat because she knows the consequences, but she too says she...
  15. Has anyone had genetic testing ordered by their doctor? I am not sure I want to go through Enterolab (partly because of the cost), and I wondered if a GI would be willing to order it. I have a follow up with my GI Feb 15, and I'm really considering cancelling because of my first appointment... but I really would like to have this genetic test to find some...

    ARCHIVED Blood Test

I would second the finding a new doctor option. What is his reasoning for not testing you? Seems that with so many in your family already dx'ed he would want to test you.
  17. One thing that has been pretty helpful to me was aloe vera juice (probably because of it's magnesium). I mix it with some juice or something and that usually does the trick. Applejuice also works for some... I'm finding that things in the liquid form seem to work better for me.
  18. Welcome!! You have found the best place to be! I am there with you, by the time I went to the doctor I had been gluten-free for a month and that was that. If you feel better, stick with it. Good for you for figuring it out so that you can start to feel better!!!
  19. When I get glutened, as long as it's a tiny amount, it doesn't seem to upset my GI system. But, I do get headachey and lose all motivation to do anything. I get tired, take a nap for 20 minutes or so, and then don't want to get up. Not because I'm sleepy, but because I just can't. That usually lasts for a day or so. During that, I am moody and I do feel depressed...
  20. That actually makes a bit of sense to me. Like you said, it's a theory, but it really does make sense. My DR said that cysts happens every month, but once the egg is released it's taken care of... which is why some women can tell when they're ovulating. (me!!) But since I've never had a regular period (unless I'm on BCP which shuts down your ovaries), my...
  21. I have a great recipe for teriyaki sauce. Use 1/4 c tamari, 1/4 c rice vinegar, and 1/4 cup rice wine (sake), 1/2 tsp ground ginger and 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1 tbsp plus 3/4 tsp brown sugar. Whisk it until the sugar dissolves- if you have one of those magic bullet type things that works really well with getting everything thoroughly mixed. I served this...
  22. Hi there and welcome to the Forum! You do have some signs of Celiac, so if you are still eating gluten, it can't hurt to be tested. If you decide to get tested, stay eating gluten, otherwise you could get a false negative. You could a false negative either way, but if you go gluten-free, you have significantly reduced the chances of getting an accurate...
  23. There was a thread on here a while back about Redbridge... gotta say it's pretty good. Made by Anheiser Busch. And you can find it at WalMart if you have one close by.
  24. I've been reading this thread because I am in the same BC shopping around boat. I just went to my OBGYN, and he suggested an IUC (which is the Mirena thing). The Mirena website itself has a quiz, and one of the questions was have you had at least 1 child? I am supposed to talk to my DR next week and I'll ask why, but for now, if the pharm companies who try...
  25. I just voted again! We're only up 1% now to the pet mag. I don't much care for Martha Stewart, but a magazine for folks like us might help to change my opinion!
