  1. I didn't realize she had Celiac. I thought she said she was just sensitive? But then again, I haven't watched the show in a while...
  2. I've had white bean hummus, trader joe's makes one. But be careful if you buy it, one of their flavors has soy sauce in it. But, it is DELICIOUS!!! Enjoy!
  3. Our Great Harvest doesn't even try. Which is guess is a service since they truly believe that they cannot make a true gluten-free bread due to CC... but I do miss their breads. That was some good stuff!!!
  4. Yeah, Kassandra, you're right. That and the increasing demand for bio fuels. Someone told me today that places like Costco and Sam's are rationing how many bags of rice you can buy. Crazy, huh?
  5. I personally cannot tolerate a whole lot of red meat. My body just doesn't seem to break it down very well. And that was pre Celiac days. It got worse before it got better for me, but I still can't do a lot of it. When my stomach is rearing its ugly head, I stick with my safe, go to foods: chicken, rice, and bananas. (of course, not in that order! LOL ...
  6. Welcome to both of you!!! For me, if I get cc'd I feel it the next day. Almost 24 hours exactly. I get extremely tired, serious brain fog, and now, depending on the level of gluten, headaches. In the beginning, the headaches were what got me off gluten. But it does depend on the person. I would suggest that you keep a food dairy in for the next few...
  7. I'm the only gluten-free one in my house too. And I think we are at the point where the only gluten in the house is bread. But usually, my husband will take it to work and leave it and my son eats sandwiches with at my mom's house (she babysits while I work). Maybe something like that would work with your family, where they eat sandwiches, etc out of the...
  8. Amanda, that is beyond rockin!!!! I am soo happy for you, and a little jealous That is very inspiring, it's good to be reminded that there really is a light at the end. Thank you!!
  9. I am waiting to hear from my doc about some bloodwork done a week ago, but I am pretty sure I have hypothyroidism. I've read a lot of different articles correlating Celiac and hypothyroidism; either just a low working thyroid or an autoimmune thyroid disease, with the autoimmune being more common. The ironic thing is, my breaking point was when I woke...
  10. If ALL you had to drink was water, you'd die. Distilled or not. I've been drinking it for 20 years... still alive. I agree, we do need minerals and salts from water, but our water is so polluted with other things, that I'd prefer to get those things from vegetables and fruits or supplements and have pure water. I don't want all the other toxins that come...
  11. I don't react to water like gluten, but tap water does hurt my stomach. But, I grew up drinking distilled water, so most tap water and bottled water makes does a number on my stomach. If you are used to drinking filtered or purified water and drink tap water (especially if your tap water is not too good) then it would definitely cause you to have some rumblings...
  12. Welcome to the board!! I can only speak as a mother of a 3 yr old... he doesn't display any symptoms but this is what I would do if he did. First, get a second opinion. If he only open to putting her on a Rx, then you need to go elsewhere. My ped is pretty young, but he told me first off that in med school now, they are learning that most of the time...
  13. Welcome Jo!!! Glad you decided to come out of the shadows and say hi! I look forward to hearing your experiences as another member of the gluten-free club!
  14. Welcome Robin!! Your depression and anxiety will likely lift when you become gluten-free, but the initial feeling of triumph fades and you realize that while the 4,000 other people at the conference can eat the sandwich, you can't. (That just happened to me this weekend and I was on the verge of a breakdown) And if you are among the fortunate of our forum...

    ARCHIVED Positive Doctor Conversation

That is soo awesome!! I had a great experience with my doctor the other day too, which fully restored my hopes that one day I'll feel better again. For my Celiac panel, I saw the PA... this time I made sure to see the doc. I told her all the things that cleared up when I went gluten free, and she said she really wanted me to pursue the Celiac possibility...
  16. You got that right!!!!
  17. I had that twitch.... vitamin B with a B12 sublingual. Gone in a matter of days.
  18. Yogurt contains probiotics naturally. Could be either the brand has gluten as an additive, or you may have a problem with dairy itself. I used to eat Fage yogurt everyday, but when I eliminated dairy for a few weeks, the next time I tried yogurt it made my stomach feel yuck. So, I don't eat too much of it. It suddenly seemed really thick and heavy to me....
  19. I believe she only did the Lyme titers. Like I said, she openly questioned the results of the Celiac test and wants me to pursue that further, so, if the Lyme comes back inconclusive, I believe she would be open to using a different test and lab. But my first time in there with all of this, I wanted to develop a rapport with her and not second guess her blood...
  20. Hello all I just came home from my appt a few minutes ago and it went REALLY well. She actually suggested Lyme when I showed her the scars on my chest. They were sent to a traditional lab, but I figured I'd let her do that and if nothing else comes back, I'll suggest another lab. She is european, and I have decided that they tend to be treat health care...
  21. People usually gain weight for one of two reasons going gluten-free: They were not absorbing nutrients, so once they begin to heal and absorb, they begin to gain weight. Which for most of these people, that's a good thing. OR They over-indulge in the gluten-free substitutes. Cookies are cookies; gluten free or not. Many of the gluten-free breads have...
  22. Hummus with those savory rice crackers. I'm so addicted... I figure it's not so bad since that's about the only processed food I eat, and hummus is pretty good for you. But, I MUST buy hummus and crackers at every trip to the grocery store. Peanut butter is rising very quickly though...
  23. Well, there was a questionnaire on the NC Foundation for LD website. I downloaded it and added it up, I have 22 of the 53 symptoms. I think I will print the form out and take it to the doctor. I probably won't be on here much after tonight until either Sun night or Mon afternoon. My appt is at 10:30 mon, so I'll let you all know how it goes. Thank you...
  24. Hey there So, to answer your wheat vs celiac question: Two different things, although you can have both. Does that make any sense? An allergic rxn to wheat involves antihistamines, whereas celiac involves antibodies. A person can have either or both, but having one doesn't mean you have to have the other. I'm not to candida saavy, but from what...
  25. Another Pamela's fan here!!! I have made pancakes from that mix a few times for my family and my husband's family. Noone knew the difference, yum!! They are especially good with pumpkin added...
