ARCHIVED Question About gluten-free Beer!
lizard00 replied to Bucsfan11's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I find that Red Bridge gives me a headache and makes me feel really bloated. I mean, most beers did that anyway, but it feels like it just stays in my stomach for hours and hours, just sitting there. I really loved beer before I had to go gluten-free, and I like Red Bridge, but it's almost like before I can get half way through it, I feel drunk. So, add that... -
ARCHIVED Headaches?

Add me to that list. Throbbing headaches... and I get them too when I get glutened. It's the first sign... -

Isn't it great when they get it right!!! It just makes your whole day, or night, or week, or whatever. -
ARCHIVED Gas Prices---geez
lizard00 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That's pretty interesting. I wouldn't be suprised to see them on the market. While they do increase efficiency, they still require gasoline. And after all, it's the requirement that the industry is trying to secure. WOW! That is quite a contraption. I guess if it gets the job done, but seems pretty far away from being practical for us all. I... -
ARCHIVED Weight Watchers And gluten-free Diet?
lizard00 replied to LIZARD's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Welcome Lizard I felt I should answer as you and I share the same name I have never done weight watchers, but I do know a little about food. There are many other grains, if you can tolerate them, that provide just as much if not more fiber. And most of them provide more protein as well. To name a few off the top of my head: quinoa, amaranth... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Affirmation...
lizard00 replied to Vanquish's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac blood tests are specific. They are notoriously inaccurate because they don't catch all the people that DO have Celiac. So, no, if those numbers were elevated and your blood test actually caught it, consider yourself among the few. The tests only rule Celiac in, not out. -
ARCHIVED Accidental Gluten...symptoms?
lizard00 replied to angie315's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just to echo Ursa. My immediate symptoms or severe, throbbing headache and nausea. The headache, depending on how much gluten I ingest, can last for 2-3 days. The nausea, for days or sometimes a week. I was getting over one episode, when I got glutened again by a digestive enzyme... Thankfully I think the amount was so small the headache and nausea didn... -

I TOTALLY agree with you. BUT... have you ever seen the documentary "Who Killed the Electric Car"? Really helps to see how the technology is there, the demand is there, but it is constantly stifled by those whose interest lies in the oil industry. -
ARCHIVED Gas Prices---geez
lizard00 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My husband and I have discussed him taking the bus, except there's not one that leaves early enough to get him to work. When we tried to plan it out, our options were get up and 1:30am and walk, or get to work an hour and half late.... needless to say our public transit system has room for improvement. And Raleigh is not such a walker/biker friendly place... -
ARCHIVED Gas Prices---geez
lizard00 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yeah, and there are families who have to cut back at the grocery store to put gas in their cars just to get to work. That is just not a decision people should be forced to make. -
ARCHIVED Pain In The Bottom Of My Feet- Owwww
lizard00 replied to Ridgewalker's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Could it be plantar fasciatis? It is EXTREMELY common. I see a lot of different women where I work and I would venture to say that over half of them have plantar fasciatis. My mom has it too. You need to invest in a good pair of tennis shoes and some orthotics. And avoid any sort of direct impact to the arch/bottom of your foot, ie marching type movements... -
ARCHIVED Gas Prices---geez
lizard00 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Gas here is 3.79... well that was yesterday anyway. Who knows what it will be when I leave work. It all has to do with the suppliers. There is NO shortage of gas. Back when Katrina hit the Gulf and all the stations were skyrocketing their prices, a lone station owner nearby refused to raise his prices like everyone else. He kept insisting that there just... -
ARCHIVED Virginia Beach Gluten Free/allergy Free Shopping
lizard00 replied to happygirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That's pretty exciting. I'm going to try to take my cousin as she has some intolerances too. I also heard there is a place on Laskin Rd called Heritage that supposedly is very holistic and has gluten free items. I'm going to check into that while I'm there too. Laura, I'll be sure to tell them you sent me -
ARCHIVED Can Celiac Bloodwork Change?
lizard00 replied to momto1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello and welcome! Depending on what type of tests they ran on your daughter, yes they can change. At two years old, blood tests are often inaccurate. If they did a genetic test, that would show whether she carried the genetic marker for Celiac, but many people carry the marker and do not ever develop Celiac. If they only did blood tests, having her... -

I don't buy much specialized stuff either. We are members of BJs which has been worth it for a few reasons: Chicken breasts (Fresh, boneless) there are somewhere around 2.00-2.50 lb, which is pretty hard to beat. The price on diapers alone... GAS!!!! Is always cheaper there. Their produce is good for certain things; ie bananas, avocadoes (if you happen... -
I have to agree, this post has lost it's point; which was initially venting about what people say in their "ignorance". To be fair, as Tim-in-VA posted, ignorance varies. There are levels. True ignorance, or when people honestly just don't know, is totally forgivable. But it's willful ignorance; from our families, healthcare providers, or food service workers...

Thanks for the reminder of Pf Changs/Pei Wei. I don't eat there much, but Pei Wei hasn't bothered me either. They have those YUMMY lettuce wraps. -
ARCHIVED May Have Celiac
lizard00 replied to melharris's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum!! I love to eat too!!! And believe it or not, eliminating gluten has really opened up the foods that I eat. Which has really only made me even more of a foodie. I ate healthy before, but going gluten-free has really helped me to experiment with foods I may not have before, and my diet is much more diverse and healthy than before. ... -
ARCHIVED Alpha Amylase
lizard00 replied to lizard00's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm steering clear of ALL fries these days and most restaurants. I read on the Mcdo's website that they have wheat in their fries. Why can't food just be food????? This has become quite an adjustment. I've always been a label reader, but it's the little random things you have to keep up with; like who ever even heard of alpha amylase?? -
ARCHIVED Alpha Amylase
lizard00 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, I am so used to just looking at ingredient lists, I forgot to actually look at the dosage. I bought some papaya digestive enzymes a while back, and yesterday, my stomach was a little unsettled. So, I popped two while I was cooking dinner, ate dinner, and by the time I was done I could barely hold my head up and I had a horrible feeling in my stomach... -
I've wanted the answer to that question for years. Why do you care if I don't eat pizza and you do? I was b**ching about it the other day to my mom and she started laughing and said, just picture everyone else with their arteries clogging when they eat that stuff. Really has worked wonders when people are just starting to get to you... Maybe people just...

I have to agree with that. I have always known what my food was and where it came from, and my parents were not the hippie types. But they did always believe that natural was ALWAYS better, no matter what. So, we did have a much better understanding of where our food came from. But I have a story too: My husband was trying to find a pizza for us, and we...

Welcome to the Board!!! Two things: I also echo the PP's suggestion to check out the Lyme Disease thread. There are a few on this board who were dx with Fibromyalgia and later found out it was Lyme and not fibro. Sometimes I wonder if I have it... Second: A gluten allergy and a gluten intolerance are two separate things. An allergy would produce a...
