ARCHIVED Statin Drugs
lizard00 replied to kenlove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey Ken My husband is another hereditary case. He's 30... at his checkup in Dec his cholesterol was 263 (or around there) and is triglycerides were 210. YIKES!!! He does non-flushing niacin. It is widely available, but you have to read the label. Otherwise, I've heard it described as a burning sensation that makes you want to crawl out of your skin... -
ARCHIVED What's Your Blood Type?
lizard00 replied to FoxersArtist's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm A+ I did peruse the "A" book for the Blood Type Diet which says that A's are supposed to eat very limited amounts of wheat, dairy and meat. So, I have Celiac, don't do well with dairy and most days don't care if I eat meat. But some of the vegetables it says not to eat I don't have a problem with, so I'm not sure you can absolutely label all A's, or... -
ARCHIVED I Have To Load Up On Gluten
lizard00 replied to ANDOBEAR's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My doctor is pretty sure that my pregnancy is what triggered my celiac gene. Pregnancy is also known to be a common trigger... so, if your symptoms got worse after pregnancy, that is my educated guess. You know, the diagnosis of Celiac is 3-part. Consuming gluten, testing positive w/blood and or biopsy, and positive response to the gluten-free diet. If... -
I completely understand. For a while I thought that the gluten-free diet worked only because I wanted it to. And what if I was just crazy? I knew there was something wrong with me, too, but all my tests were normal also. But I kept getting better and better. And I finally realized (after a few intentional glutenings) that I really had found the answer...

ARCHIVED Question About 20 Ppm Or 200 Ppm Or Whatever Ppm
lizard00 replied to home-based-mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I see your point. And I have to admit, I have never gotten sick from my kitchen. I did not buy new pots or pans, for that matter I didn't buy anything new. (I'm pretty sure I'll be scrutinized for that statement) But most of my stuff goes through the dishwasher, or I clean it myself. I have wondered that too. I can see the obvious one, like a toaster... -
ARCHIVED Question About 20 Ppm Or 200 Ppm Or Whatever Ppm
lizard00 replied to home-based-mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with you two, also. I think that if something can claim to be gluten-free, it should be. That being said, I can understand the 20ppm standard here. (I still don't agree with it) It is the smallest measurable amount of gluten that is still cost effective. So, yes, we remain at the mercy of corporations. I am thankful, however, that our current standard... -
ARCHIVED Still Sick
lizard00 replied to KProc's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Did you doctor do any tests to see if you were anemic, or deficient in certain vitamins or minerals? In the beginning, I still had a lack of energy and started taking B12 and magnesium. They really helped a great deal. I had severe headaches, too. Mine did partially go away with the gluten-free diet, but I also have sinus issues that cause headaches. Anyway... -
ARCHIVED Stupid, Stupid Doctor
lizard00 replied to AliB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ali, I'm so sorry to hear that. Doctors can make our lives most difficult sometimes!!! I hope your daughter makes some progress quickly. It's so tough to see our kids sick. Sending hugs your way!!! My little guy is Connor too!! What a fantastic name -
ok.. I got you now When I get glutened, I get a burning in my small intestine... right across my where my belly button is. And I get a headache... a throbbing one to be exact. I went for a few weeks where I would get the same burning sensation, and a mild headache, but was sure I hadn't had gluten. I paid attention and realized very quickly it was...

Sorry, I'm a little confused. Do you want to get an idea for the average rxn time to see if you possibly have another unknown intolerance? Edit: To answer your question, it takes me close to a week before I feel completely over it.

ARCHIVED Antibiotics
lizard00 replied to S-J-L's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's pretty common for them to cause burning in the stomach. Do you take them with food? And not crackers... like with a meal? My husband is not Celiac and in Jan he was on abx. The first night or so he was in a tremendous amount of pain because he took them right before he went to bed. And by that point he didn't have enough in his stomach to buffer it.... -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Please Talk Me Off The Ledge
lizard00 replied to shacon-bacon's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've had those days too. Somewhere around 2 or 3 months after I went gluten-free, I almost broke down because I couldn't find gluten-free pizza (other than Amy's or homemade). My dear husband was trying desperately to find a place, but to no avail. I never thought I would get emotional over pizza... Then in April, I went to a conference for work. The hotel... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed & Vegetarian
lizard00 replied to DLake's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with ShayFL and AndreaB... we must listen to our bodies. My body thrives on little to no meat and no dairy; but rather vegetables, grains and fruit. But that is just my body. I have no problem digesting meat, but I just overall feel better when I don't eat much of it. But I do eat fish, and my body works well with it. The truth is we can't push... -
ARCHIVED Food Should Taste Good Brand Chips

Perhaps they are using certified gluten-free oats to extract the fiber from? Just throwing it out there as a possibility... -
ARCHIVED Am I Anemic
lizard00 replied to New2Celiac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That sounded like me 7 months ago. My more pronounced symptoms were headache and nausea, but these went away almost as soon as I went gluten-free. The fatigue went on, and on, and on... We are usually deficient in something, I wish I could tell you if I was. My doc tested me for vit d and b12 in april, but my levels were normal. I was feeling better by... -
ARCHIVED Please Help With Blood Test Results
lizard00 replied to Amyleigh0007's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum!! Have you tried the gluten free diet? The number of people on here with negative bloodwork but either a diagnosis or positive results is pretty high. My bloodwork was negative, but I have Celiac. It really is up to you at this point if you want to pursue it. If you try the diet, you skew your chances of an accurate result. But... -
I am another one that it didn't help with. I was hoping it would, as I have heard of people with asthma, sinus or allergy problems getting better going gluten-free. But, I still deal with it. I stopped taking Zyrtec today, and started on an herbal remedy that's supposed to help with the headache that I get. Wish I could tell you otherwise...

ARCHIVED How Soon Do You See Results From Gluten-free Diet?
lizard00 replied to g-g-ma's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, it is possible to find immediate relief from the gluten-free diet;Although most people don't feel totally back to normal right away. And once you remove gluten from your diet, if you are Celiac or sensitive, you usually are more sensitive to it. If you are not feeling well after eating a McDonald's hamburger, it was contaminated, especially if it... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Test Please Help
lizard00 replied to dollamasgetceliac?'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My doctor was willing to diagnose me based on the fact that I am DQ2 positive and my symptoms resolved with a gluten free diet. My bloodwork was negative, and I didn't have an EGD. 4-5 weeks on the diet is enough to feel relief, but it's not long enough to reverse everything. If you continue to feel better, then the chances of Celiac for you are high. I... -
Did your doctor test you for any vitamin/mineral deficiencies? Vit D deficiencyis linked to many, many things, including trouble concentrating. Many Celiacs are vit D deficient. B12 deficiency makes you lack energy, etc. As a PP said, if your blood tests came back positive, it's pretty clear that you have Celiac. Have they tested you for anything else...

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed & Vegetarian
lizard00 replied to DLake's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I believe that the intention of this thread was to support someone who already IS a vegetarian and is Celiac, as well. This is not a debate as to why one should or shouldn't be a vegetarian, please focus on the topic of the thread. We are here to help each other and respect the choices that we all make. -
ARCHIVED Symptoms Only When I Over Indulge?
lizard00 replied to Krystens mummy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would agree with that. My symptoms would always worsen at my grandma's house. She worked in a bakery and when we were there, we always "overindulged". At that point I was clueless to Celiac, and I was eating lasagne, cereal, sandwiches and all the desert bites in between and after every meal. (cause we were at grandma's!) By Saturday afternoon, and we... -

lizard00 replied to monkeypuss's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi there, glad you came back! You said you got better on the diet? How long were you gluten-free and how long did you eat gluten for the endoscopy? I figure you probably want/need a diagnosis for school to let you redo some stuff... but if you feel better off of it, then just go gluten-free. What is your doctor's next move? If you have this pain, and...
