  1. I did it for the rxn, and boy did I regret it for days!!!! And now, when I get glutened, I am recovering for days! Sometimes we have to learn the hard way, but if ever you listen to other's experiences.... I wish I had of.
  2. Hi Roxie I know you don't want to make your family gluten-free, and you don't have to... but when you cook at home, it needs to be gluten-free. It's not selfish, it's to preserve your sanity and health. I have a child too, and thus far he can handle gluten, as can my husband. But I will NOT cook two meals. If we go out, they can get food with gluten...
  3. Welcome to the board!!! I am IgA deficient, too. Assuming that you just went gluten-free today, if you want to be retested, do it NOW and ask them to run the IgG versions of the Celiac panel. I wish I would have known that back in Dec 07 to have been retested myself. I ended up being genetically tested in May of this year, and thankfully ended up with a wonderful...
  4. Hi and Welcome to the board While regularly consuming gluten, as you know, would be compromising, I would expect that an accidental glutening of such a small amount would not set you back. We all get glutened from time to time, unfortunately. So, relax. There are many, many worse things that you could have done. Now you know to stay away from...
  5. To hijack for a second.... Shay How'd you cook the plantains??? Love them, but my African friends make l'aloco (their word for it) FRIED. And while I can eat my fair share, I just can't cook them at home. Did you put anything on them? How long did you bake them? Ok... you may resume to your thread again. And to the OP... I wish...
  6. I know this is old, but wanted to add my experience as well. I am 26, have one child, and my face broke out in the 4th grade... I'm thinking that would put me around 8/9 yrs old. People said it would clear up when I had my child, nothing. Thought maybe it would clear up when I found out about celiac disease and cut out gluten. Nothing. I DO know that dairy...
  7. NOW, to the OP... Were you dx with Celiac? Please take that as no offense... I was gluten-free for 8 months before I was dx. I just mainly wanted to get an idea for other possibilities. And one of the criteria for Celiac is that you respond positively to the diet. There are a few folks around who have Lyme, metal problems, etc. All these things can make...
  8. Well put RiceGuy (as usual... ) That would include me. In fact, my body feels best when I eat rice, whole grains, fruit and veggies. Dairy just doesn't work.... I tried the hard cheese thing from the SCD. Breaks my face out, hurts my gut... And I actually feel weighed down and YUCKY if I eat too much meat protein. As long as I keep dairy and gluten...
  9. Congratulations... weird, isn't it. When I found out my results were negative back in Nov of last year, I was so upset. It had to do with me feeling like I was starting over again and was totally off with the gluten problem. A few months ago I got my official Celiac dx based on my genetics and positive response. It was the weirdest justificiation...
  10. Welcome to the process. I've been there, done that. Then you remember why you are supposed to be gluten-free in the first place. These little bumps come along the way to remind us that 1: we are not perfect and 2: WHY we should avoid gluten like the poison that it is. In the beginning, I thought being gluten-free was soooo easy. Because I started to...
  11. These tests are all part of the Celiac Panel; which is the blood test. You might want to mention getting a complete IgA serum though, just in case you are IgA deficient. (IgA is associated with your immune systen and it's responses) The back up to this test is the IgG, (which I'm impressed that your doctor put in the test orders), but it's good to know if...
  12. Let's see... I hope so. But, I'm double DQ2, so that throws the theory of my parents. BUT... for my son's sake, it would be nice.
  13. I do enjoy wine. And perhaps dilemma isn't the proper word. It's not like my social outings are now inhibited, but I really did love to try all the different kinds of beer. Beer and wine are two different things, though. Sometimes, wine just doesn't do. But a nice, cold beer would just hit the spot. And finding the few gluten frees are not so hard, but I...
  14. That has been my dilemma. I didn't drink Bud Light before I went gluten-free, and if that was my prospect now I still wouldn't drink it. (No offense to anyone on here who drinks it, I just don't care for it) But the days when we would go pick up a random local brew, sometimes based only on whether we liked the packaging, are LOOONG gone. sigh
  15. Find a new doc!!! Did your PCP recommend this one? If not, and you like your PCP, ask them for a referral. Or do you know any nurses? They're always great to tell you who to see or not see. I had a similar experience with the PA at my GP's office. CLUELESS!!! I really love my GP, just not her PA. So, now, I insist that I see the GP instead. The GP sent...
  16. That's probably not a bad idea. And try to get a copy of your results. That way you an see what specifically you were tested for and see the results for yourself.
  17. I did my own elimination diet too. Just wondered if your doc had offered any suggestions... I cut out all soy, dairy, most grains (specifically gluten containing grains), alcohol and sugar. Which leaves pretty much nothing processed. And honestly, less process is always better, but especially in the healing process. I stuck with whole foods. It was a...
  18. Personally, I would do every other day. But that's my body. I react to things pretty quickly, so that would work for me. But, do keep a food journal because you can have delayed rxns and you need to be able to look back a day or so. I'm sure others will have suggestions, but I think every 2-3 days is what I've seen from various sources. Did your doc put...
  19. Those are great!!! Thanks for the laugh everyone!!! You know you're Celiac when you are excited to find another one of "You" (you know that feeling, like you've found a long lost family member of something!!) buying gluten-free stuff at the store... especially when it's something you haven't tried because you can ask them ALL about it!
  20. You said exactly what I was thinking. To people coming here whose doctor has told them to look it up online because that's the best source of info (and that happens A LOT!!), this thread could misinform them. Personally, I LOVE beer, but I'm not risking trying a light beer for the sake of pushing it. There are varying degrees of sensitivity, not intolerance...
  21. So two things popped into my mind: Plantar fasciatis- but that you really feel when you're walking. It hurts more in the morning when trying to get moving. OR you may just need some potassium and magnesium. Both are essential to your muscular health. Bananas are great for potassium (and for stopping D), and magnesium can be found in trace amounts in...
  22. Hi and Welcome! It sounds to me you got your diagnosis as a baby, and is commonly and mistakenly believed, even today, you were thought to have outgrown it. But this is never the case, you cannot outgrow Celiac. Personally, I am not up for a challenge. I had headaches daily and got sick after almost everything I ate at my worst. When I got rid of...
  23. Welcome! I was sick after eating everything too, but it will go away!!! Keep your head up! I remember the first day I didn't get sick after eating, I looked at my husband and said, "so, is this what people normally feel like after they eat?" LOL As I was reading your post, I though green smoothies at home. But, when I got to the bottom, you are already...
  24. Hey Beth Cast my vote for probiotics!!! My doctor put me on the them for two months, but I'm going to see him this afternoon, and I'm going to see if I can get some more from him. If not, I'm still going to buy them. I felt sooo much better while I was taking them. I agree with what everyone has already said! I didn't start with any gluten-free breads...
  25. Do you have your blood tests? I was also negative...the tests re pretty inaccurate for a number of reasons. If you had your results, you could post them here. I agree, I would maybe try to find another doctor. The first one I went to was not so good. So, I was referred to another one and he is wonderful. Definitely worth a look.
