    ARCHIVED Mimi's Cafe

I have a Mimi's near me and have not gotten sick there. I received an email from them also, it was pretty long. You can also get one when you go there. It is really helpful and basically says in the beginning paragraph that some people are more sensitive than others, and they realize that, and if you need them to use a different pan or cut fresh fruit for...
  2. Sorry, I am not a baker. About the only thing I "bake" is the pizza crust from Namaste. For cookies or the occasional treat, check out the Enjoy Life brand. They are made in a bakery that is dedicated to be free of the big 8 allergens. I've had their chocolate and snickerdoodle cookies. They are not exactly a chocolate cookie from a bakery, but I found them...
  3. big salad... LOL I have gotten sick from a few salads too. Not always sure why either. Eating out is a big old pain.
  4. One does have to wonder why she wouldn't have explained it correctly. If it's an allergy why not call it that, or at least say an intolerance to gluten. She has all these people's attention...

    ARCHIVED Vent

My husband's mother is JUST like that. He doesn't have any food issues, but I could see her doing something crazy like that. What has really worked for him after years and years of stress is just calling her on whatever it is she is up to. Everyone in his family doesn't want to upset her because she is, shall we say, unstable? But he finally just started...
  6. I'm also allergic to eggs, but only the whites. If I eat eggs or something with eggs in the top ingredients, I get a similar reaction I get to gluten, only the egg rxn is quicker coming and going. My egg rxn last a few hours at most, gluten lasts for a few days...I get a really bad stomachache, a headache, nausea, everything. It lasts a few hours then goes...
  7. WOW!!! You should be proud!! What a great article, hopefully it will reach many, many people and help them.
  8. I've noticed that the gum area on my front teeth seem to be receding. I am putting off going to the dentist for all of the reasons you just mentioned. I have always had really good teeth, but I am not so sure now. I've never had a cavity, had more teeth pulled than any one person ever should, braces, list goes on. You would think I would be obsessive over...
  9. I'll do Wendy's if I have to. Although I am starting to question their fries... For us, Chipotle is in walking distance. I haven't gotten sick there yet, and virtually all of their foods are gluten-free. But then again, I am junkie for Tex/Mex type foods, soI could eat there everyday. They will make any combination for kids there, so if your child...
  10. I can't say that I know the answer to your question, but just wanted to send congratulations your way! I always love to hear stories of people starting to recover from various health problems. It makes me very happy and keeps me motivated to stay gluten-free. Thanks for sharing!!
  11. Hi everyone! So a quick update: ALL of my bloodwork came back normal; I don't have copies yet, but I'll get them soon. I have been feeling pretty good these past couple of weeks, so maybe it's just getting over the initial damage by gluten. I am going to another GI in a few weeks, so we'll see what comes of that. But until then, I am going to continue...
  12. Yep Been there... before I figured out how serious this was, I went gluten-free then ate pizza with some friends. Thick crust at that... the next day I physically and mentally felt like crap. And then I ate more pizza... because I already felt bad. Why not eat what I want, I can't feel immediately worse. I'm sorry your friends don't get it yet. People...
  13. I'm not good at putting the links in and stuff, but i'll see if it lets me put it in: rosiesplate.com the site is not up with the menu yet, but there is a way you can go in and get on the mailing list. today the owner sent out her menu for opening week, all i know is that i saw frosted yellow cupcakes...
  14. I take the regular magnesium tablets, but I'm sure the powder would be fine. I do feel more balanced overall when I take it, that's about the only way I can explain it. I take B12 on and off too, with that I do a sublingual, the absorption is far superior to taking a tablet. b12 helps with nerve function, magnesium with muscles, from what I've read thusfar...
  15. For any of you out here in Raleigh land or close by, a new restuarant is opening in the downtown area called Rosie's Plate. They run a completely gluten-free kitchen and are planning to open somewhere around May 20th. I am soo excited, as this is one of the first around here. I just want some pizza!!!! Anyway, I'm sure you can google it for more info ...
  16. Home based mom said it all! You are in fact, doing more harm than good. If you are consuming 900 calories a day for dietary purposes, you should be under a doctor's supervision. That is barely enough to sustain your body's necessary fucntions, much less try to add in exercise. If you are exercising, you need to eat more... and be sure to add protein. You...
  17. The 9 day cleanse/fast is a big part of my not so sure feeling. I was thinking about asking my acupuncturist too, as she is pretty much the reason I have gotten this far. But... it's not cheap and it is still a bit sketchy to me. I have actually had two weeks of feeling good... HORAY!!! After feeling so bad for so long I am skeptical of anything that may...
  18. I'm sorry, but this thread has been one of the funniest things I've seen today. I wish someone had told me to limit myself to just ONE sandwich a day. I understand, if I were you I'd be honked off too... But as it was said, take it with a grain of salt. Wouldn't life be great if we could all be so blissfully unaware! You stole the words right...
  19. My very very first question: What are your "diet foods"? If you are newly dx'ed, you don't need to starve yourself. It's never a good idea even when you're healthy, but if you've been suffering malabsorption, not eating enough will just perpetuate the problem. And how tall are you? Is 125 a reasonable goal for your body to maintain?
  20. A woman I know swears up and down she has had amazing results with this product, and of course wants me to try it. I do believe we live in a toxic world and need to detox, however individually you choose that to be, but I'm a little weary of it. Supposedly, all the products are gluten-free. I would just really like to hear from someone without lucrative...
  21. Chipotle remains on my list of places I can eat without getting sick. And that list continues to shorten. I get their burrito bols most of the time, although I did get brave and tried the tacos. They were great and I think maybe once I felt a little wanky after I ate there. But I think my stomach was upset already and it just made it worse. I was worried...
  22. I've had what the doctors like to call a "reactive airway" since I can remember. I have an albuterol inhaler and my new GP put me on Serevent as needed. Since you said that you've been exposed to a lot of second hand smoke, I would think it may be allergy induced. My husband has that. Before his allergies were in check, and if he doesn't take is medicine...
  23. Welcome to the forum! Most of the problems associated with Celiac are things that can happen if Celiac is untreated. SO, give your doctor a big ole thanks for helping you avoid all of those things. One redeeming thing about this disease is that you don't have to take a pill, so no side effects from that. It seems overwhelming at first to avoid eating gluten...
  24. I had negative bloodwork after going gluten-free first... at first I thought there was no way I could have Celiac. It just wasn't that serious... But now, as I get better and certain things that I never thought were gluten related have fixed themselves, and the more I learn about this disease, I am pretty sure that I have it. I consider myself to be an...
  25. I can relate to that.
