  1. I, too, had horrendous itching and rash after going gluten-free. Some same places, some different. I think it was a good move for you to dump the soy because that was what was causing mine--they take the gluten out of processed foods and dump in a bunch of soy! It took a long while for that rash and itching to subside. (I am 7 mos. gluten-free.) I have...
  2. Have had an awful week; injury to my back so I'm sleeping in my recliner chair in the living room. Have my meds for pain, arthritis, etc., there and a glass of water on the coffee table to take them with. Then on Thursday got all bloaty and , oh no, glutened! Felt a bit better by Friday night and blam, it hit again. DH had been preparing food for me...
  3. Another 68-year-old, self-diagnosed 6 months ago. Still alive and kicking and planning on being around for a long time Smoked from age 17-29, just glad I stopped without worrying about what had already happened. Enjoy today and tomorrow will take care of itself.
  4. Okay, I know this isn't gluten, but since I have had to go soy-free also, every time I see the word soy in any shape or form I run a country mile. Of course, this has included soya lecithin, but I have been getting inklings in some posts that this can perhaps be differentiated from actual soy products. Is this so or is it just as deadly for those of us...
  5. It truly is a puzzlement. Do you include a gynecologist amongst your docs? If not I would certainly consult one for her advice. Do your other docs have any clues at all, or do they just think it's in your head ? Why don't you try keeping a food diary and see if there is any correlation? Or maybe you have already done this. And check if it is always...
  6. Billygean: You sound like a carbon copy of my niece; her sequence, with some other things thrown in along the way, was mononucleosis, CFS, celiac. Thank goodness you have a doc who recognizes this. Good luck.

ARCHIVED The First Visit To The Gi

Hey, Andrew, that is good! Also, "You are not thin enough to have celiac."
  8. Hi Lux: Now don't go feeling neurotic on us . Chances are there is a real reason for this sensation that no one has hit on yet. I think it is important to identify, if we can, what is causing problems for us. It could be something minor or unexplainable, or it could be something important. Have you ever tried describing this sensation to your doc?...
  9. I not only miss tomatoes, I mourn their loss Who makes the nightshade free pasta sauce?
  10. Thanks purple both for the recipe and the tips. I am definitely going to try these. I LUV burritos.
  11. Thanks for your reply ShayFL. I think that is something I will check out further in Reno next month.
  12. Ditto to what Kathy said. There is a strong inheritance factor. And some of us react later and less strongly than others and others never test positive. I felt it sufficient to know that not eating gluten made me feel better, to stay gluten free. There is even an advantage to not having the celiac diagnosis as no one can hold it against you (sneaky insurance...
  13. That does sound a little odd--bananas dripping oil! Actually I was thinking more of stirring it into some stewed fruit like apples so you don't get that oily sensation . I usually stir it into my yogurt in the morning
  14. I eliminated soy in March, have avoided lactose since 1992, but have not given totally dairy free a good trial; gave up my yogurt for several weeks and minimised cheese, sour cream, etc., which do not seem to have any overt adverse effects, and did a three week trial of no nightshades. Challenged myself with tomatoes and reacted immediately, but no reaction...
  15. That's a very difficult question, a bit like asking "How big is big?" It is something that is very different for each of us--we all recover at our own rate. I, too, was a breadaholic all my life and I just discovered 7 months ago that I shouldn't eat it (I am 68). I guess I am lucky that I do not have more problems than I do. Good luck on your...
  16. I have psoriatic arthritis. My experience with physicians is that none of them will acknowledge any relationship between gluten intolerance and psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis, although if you read on this forum some members have reported their arthritis and psoriasis going into remission once they stopped eating gluten. Unfortunately it has not happened...
  17. I take flaxseed oil every day and often fish oil caps; my free T3 was low normal but all the others seemed okay. Do you think I should explore further because I am always cold.
  18. When I had mycoplasma infection it produced raging fevers and then horrible chills. At night the sweats were so bad I had a pile of clean sheets and nightgowns beside the bed and as one got soaked I would swap it for the next. I do so sympathize with what you are going through. I am really just kinda guessing on this as far as the flaxseed, but I think...
  19. Yep, Ali, I have all of the above, and have not been able to do much about it I am afraid. My legs look like a peeling alligator, and I have strange itches, rashes, peeling skin. also bruise easily and, of course, I also have psoriasis in addition to the above. I constantly have to control the urge to scratch. It all seems mostly impervious to creams,...
  20. Wow, so you had a mycoplasma infection too! Until now I was the only one I knew who ever had that. It made me really sick for weeks. When it comes to fats, I find that flaxseed oil is really easy for me to digest. Is there anything you can eat that you could add some to, like stewed fruit or such. I honestly have no idea if this would work for you...
  21. You guys are great--creative minds at work I just couldn't get beyond the tomatoes and the sense of loss!
  22. Having finally accepted that I can no longer eat tomatoes, I am thinking of all those wonderful recipes I have that call for them. Tagines, lamb shanks, all those wonderful meaty dishes where a can of tomatoes provides a richly flavoured sauce. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to compensate for the loss of this flavouring?
  23. I just posted on another thread that for me it seems to be tomatoes and green peppers only, although I have not yet challenged myself with eggplant. Potatoes don't seem to bother me, but I haven't tried eating them out, and red peppers are okay--after all, green peppers are just unripe red peppers.
  24. I will check it out next month when I am over there. Mmm, a salad you don't have to digest
  25. My response to that would be a definite yes. My hubby and I are intolerant in totally different ways and have different sensitivities. He occasionally cheats when he is in town and sometimes gets away with it and sometimes not. I would never dream of cheating because of the dire consequences. I immediately changed all cosmetics, toiletries and hair products...
