  1. And how many undiagnosed celiacs who do this and keep gaining have been told this???
  2. Hello and welcome to the forum. With all these people including docs talking celiac disease, have they ever done the blood tests on your youngest daughter? As for the seizure being the 'trigger' for celiac, seizures can be part of the celiac picture as an expression of celiac - a neurological manifestation (this kind of presentation is not at all...

  4. - chicken "pot pie" with Bisquick biscuits on top I watched Rachel Ray do this the other day and immediatelly wanted somev
  5. Adding to Lisa's questions, when he did the colonoscopy, did he also do the endoscopy (down your throat into the small intestine) and is that what he said looked like you had celiac but then the biopsy came back negative? Or did just the blood tests come back negaative? Welcome to the board, and you will get used to all our nosey questions
  6. Sometimes the slow cookers themselves are at fault. I returned the first one I bought because it burned things even on low. My new one doesn't burn things even on high, though I suppose with enough sugar and not a lot of liquid it could
  7. Yes, it does seem as if in your case things have been done a little bass ackwards. Positive blood, confirming biopsy is the normal procedure. Perhaps your doctor forgot you had not had the blood tests done, and the blood taken at the hospital was to test for nutrient deficiencies. Nonetheless, celiac is like pregnancy in that you can't be a "little...

  10. It's true that there's a newer test, the DGP IgA and IgG, with a much greater specificity for celiac and much more sensitive than the tTG in picking up early damage. You could ask for this test to be run, but even were it not positive I would still be inclined to believe that you are indeed celiac since all it takes is one positive. What symptoms does celiac...
  11. If you can find some good bread, a pasta that you like, and a baking mix so you can make biscuits, pancakes, etc., it is really much better to avoid the processed stuff as much as possible, especially at first, until your taste buds forget about gluten. Most of the bread doesn't taste good unless it's toasted so I do a lot of grilled cheese, BLT's, garlic...
  12. And I did too -- I sometimes get a little over exuberant
  13. Thanks for reminding me, IH, that not everyone might be in the mood for my brand of humor. I hope you are feeling better juanitahoy
  14. Yes. The Immunoglobulin A, aka total serum IgA, is run as a control test to ensure that you produce normal amounts of antibodies. If yours was low it would invalidate any IgA testing, in which case they use the IgG. I am hoping you meant your D went up to 115 from 35
  15. If you check the dermatitis herpetiformis section on the forum here, there is a photo bank of members photographs of their lesions for comparison purposes. These run the gamut from mild to severe. Even dermatologists have a hard time with this diagnosis. ETA: Eczema and psoriasis are two other skin conditins associated with celiac disease.
  16. It all depends on how much you want to suffer and how much damage you want to risk doing to your body. And allergy is something else entirely, and not to be taken lightly, as allergies can become worse and life-threatening.
  17. Nope, don't "do" taters. Not even in wodka, just to be sure. Go for the burn with scotch Nothing like a good sear to seal in the juices.
  18. I don't know whether or not you have an intolerance or allergy to bananas, but the inability to eat them is often related to a latex allergy. Have you noticed any kind of reaction from latex gloves or any other latex products? Avocados are also in the same family of foods related to latex. Yes, the best way is to listen to your body -- it will usually...
  19. Sounds like a good plan. If you are starting fresh with a new doctor, get the whole panel redone: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG Total Serum IgA
  20. I found only two things that would help coat my gut: oodles of yogurt to soothe and comfort it and neat scotch to shock the h*ll out of it and beat it into submission (but not both at the same time!)
  21. The first test, the Immunoglobulin A (IgA), S, is the control test to make sure that you manufacture what is considered a normal amount of antibodies, and you do. The second test is the doctors' preferred test, because it measures the antibodies that are damaging tissue in the small intestine (tissue Transglutaminase). There usually needs to be quite...
  22. I was always chastised at the dinner table for not eating my boiled-to-a-slop veggies, while I had secretly been out all day sneaking the baby veg out of the garden (I wasn't even old enough then to call it thinning the rows )
