  1. Hello Carl, and welcome to the board. There is a form of celiac which manifests almost entirely neurologically, and it is possible that this could be your problem. The brain lesions in the US are usually described as UBO's (unidentified bright objects). It sounds like your symptoms are very severe that you have lost the use of your hands, cannot hold...

  3. You really should get your levels checked to find out where your deficiencies lie. If you are seriously deficient in something you will need much more supplementation than is available in a multivitamin - e.g., B12 and D - so it is best to know what you need.
  4. It would be helpful to have the ranges for the tests as well as the scores. Did they do only two celiac tests or were only those two positive? Yes, the GI will want to scope if you are positive, and yes, you really need to be eating gluten for all testing. If the 451 score is for the DGP IgA (which it would appear) that is an awfully high score, reflecting...
  5. I wouldn't exactly say inadvertently I think I would say she has been instrumental in keeping it from progressing, just as I think that my gluten free has been very instrumental in keeping my PsA at bay. My rheumy can't believe that I take only an occasional Humira shot (like every six months or so ) now. He is totally mystified because "diet has...
  6. Dancing in the streets tonight, that's for sure!!!!
  7. "If I had only known when I was younger, I could have had a much different sort of adult life." The celiac's version of the lament, If I had known I was gonna live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.
  8. Looks like that horrid weather has finally found the energy to cross the equator and head our way. We are due for a week of rain... only it's not really going to rain, you know that, it's going to mizzle and sneet and do anything except provide the right moisture to green up our parched paddocks to provide winter feed for our sheeps, cows, and deers, before...
  9. I, too, am very nickel reactive. I had to have several crowns in my mouth which were porcelain over nickel replaced and ended up letting my pierced ears close up when all metals were a problem. You can order the genetic testing through Enterolab if it is that important for you. And a follow-up DEXA scan was one of the first things I did upon discovery...
  10. And after a few thousand miles you will be able to ditch the wheels and the cooler/chillie bin/Eski (that's Yankee, Kiwi and Aussie multilinguality for you )
  11. Prometheus is a good lab so whatever they are testing for should be accurate.
  12. This is what you wrote: I got a referral to a gastro who put me on a gluten challenge for two months, during which time I developed fibromyalgia, RLS, gastritis, retriggered my anxiety, OCD and depression, and had such severe derealization I lost the ability to differentiate between dreams and reality and was borderline suicidal. And then you say...
  13. Looking at my food it doesn't appear any different to anyone else's -- just no one else can prepare it!!! Actually, there are some places I can go to eat out but I always take my Lectin Lock with me because, like GottaSki, lectins are my major problem -- worse than the gluten thingy
  14. I actually manage to eat pretty well - just not food that others prepare . I am adding back little bits of my intolerances - nibbling around the edges, so to speak. Can now tolerate some potato starch in breads (like Udi's ), also corn starch because all the lectins have been refined out of it. Can have soy lecithin which gave me back a lot of things...
  15. I would consider this a very fair assessment of gluten free eating in New Zealand.
  16. Unless he brushes his teeth he is definitely going to contaminate you with gluteny kisses A lot of people have a gluten free house, but the spouse can eat whatever he wants outside the house, provided rule #1 is followed. There is absolutely no harm to anyone in eating a gluten free diet. You just have to be a little more aware of what nutrients are...
  17. My understanding is that chebe isn't chebe without the cheese but then, what do I know????

  19. Hello, and welcome to the board. Newbie 101 is found here: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/ and it IS a good place to start. It seems to take a good three months or so to settle into the diet and have things start to heal and recover. Cutting dairy is a good idea, because the enzyme for digesting it is made in the area...
  20. I understand your concern, but I doubt that they would flat-out lie to you about this. Most celiacs can tolerate small gluten exposures, such as residue on shared lines, if any, and the amount of filler actually contained in a medication is small to start with. I would at least try the medication (and make sure you eat cleanly when you first start taking...
  21. What a cowardly attack We stand with you, Boston, and with the runners from all over the world.
  22. The following are all good sources of fiber: Beans, lentils and peas Fresh and dried fruits – particularly if the skins are eaten Vegetables – particularly if the skins are eaten Nuts and seeds Jacket potatoes with skins, including sweet potatoes Psyllium husks which can be added to baking or cereals There are also the standbys of Metamucil and suc...
  23. No, life is definitely not over with a celiac diagnosis. It is just the first day of a new, better life (and I'm not just being Pollyanna).
  24. The tTG is the doctors' favorite screening test in the celiac panel and many rely on it exclusively, although it is not entirely specific for celiac even if positive, and there has to be quite a bit of damage for it to be positive (maybe why he's never gotten a positive ) The better test is the newer DGP which is more sensitive to early celiac, and also...
