  1. Hello John, and welcome to the board. There is such a lot to explain, where to start? Best for you to start by reading as much as you can on this forum, starting with the Newbie 101 thread at the beginning of the Coping section. A brief synopsis. You have been making autoimmune antibodies to gluten due to an inherited gene predisposition, which...
  2. Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen
  3. No, you are not back at Square One; you have suffered a minor setback, which happens to us all at some point. While it doesn't help it will not matter that much in the overall scheme of things. Repeated glutenings, however, will have a definite impact because they keep that antibody production active and increase the damage..
  4. No, she cannot completely go off gluten, because in the absence of gluten the antibodies disappear and healing starts taking place. She does not need to eat gluten at every meal; a couple of crackers or a slice of bread should be sufficient to maintain the antibody production. She may find that doing this makes her feel just as bad as a full gluten diet...
  5. Wings Of A Snow White Dove - Ferlin Husky
  6. Thank you for your comments, BZBee. There is sometimes an "Us vs. them" attitude between the doctor-diagnosed and the self-diagnosed, but really we are all in this gluten mess together, all fighting the same issues the best we can, some with labels on their foreheads and some without. Those without (and I am one and have sometimes experienced this myself...
  7. And no, first class gets to eat much, much better than cattle class But at least on international flights all airlines should be able to serve you a gluten free meal, whatever the class. Request it at the time of booking.
  8. If only one test is done it is usually the tTG IgA. However, this test should be run in conjunction with a Total Serum IgA to ensure that the person being tested produces normal quantities of IgA antibodies. If their IgA quantity is insufficient the test is invalid and IgG testing should be done. If you are looking for the most sensitive celiac test, and...
  9. Impossible - James Arthur
  10. Jeepers, Lisa, scary stuff! Glad you made it through that little episode, and good luck with the exam. I will have to make sure hubs is more diligent about his epi. Since he underwent desensitization to bees he is a bit blase about the whole thing. And then there was the raw fish episode in SF .
  11. Colleen, you are being carried lovingly in our thoughts wherever you go. We are all pulling for you. I know the waiting is excruciating ~~ try some celiac disease's with beautiful imagery and music to transport you away from troubling thoughts. We are here for you whenever you need us.
  12. A big hello to you, peter/southland. Not many Kiwis around here any more, so another voice from the mainland (or should I say Te Wai Pounamu now since South Island is apparently not "official") is a welcome addition.
  13. From my reading of others' posts here on the board, once on the gluten free diet fertility tends to normalize. Those who have been unable to conceive, as well as those who have had multiple miscarriages, seem to have been able to carry healthy children to term once their own bodies are healthy. So just relax and let it happen
  14. A big welcome to the board. While I am not specifically familiar with male fertility issues associated with celiac, they are most assuredly associated with pregnancy and childbearing in women, so without looking it up I would have to assume if you have done your reading that it could certainly also be a male issue. I have often said that fertility clinics...
  15. I'm glad the Dapsone is giving you some relief. but sorry that your biopsy was done incorrectly. Is there any chance you can print out information from the webon how to do it and go back and have it redone? I ask this, because this is your best shot at diagnosis. It is unfortunate that those with DH frequently do not test positive on either blood tests...
  16. Glad the ordeal is over and you can get back to gluten-free eating. At this point it seems pretty obvious that the results of the biopsy don't mean a lot as far as how to live your life -- gluten is clearly not your friend! Still.... an official diagnosis would be nice.
  17. A good place to start is to read (if you have not already done so) the newbie thread: https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/91878-newbie-info-101/
  18. Absolutely nothing..... NOW Spelling is just fine
  19. Welcome to the board. MedlinePlus defines failure to thrive: Failure to thrive refers to children whose current weight or rate of weight gain is significantly lower than that of other children of similar age and gender. I'm not sure how your pediatrician arrived at the idea that you have to be tall and skinny to be a celiac. If your child...
  20. Lisa, , yeah it's me again. l am confused. How exactly does one marinade "without the marinade"??
  21. Unfortunately, "just having a gluten intolerance" can be just as painful as celiac. Your body will let you know
  22. Welcome to the board. Just a quick warning note! Do not start eating gluten free if you plan on pursuing testing. Celiac testing requires you to be eating a full gluten diet.
  23. What you have to realize is that if you are biopsy diagnosed, you have a damaged gut. Your damaged gut is not going to work properly until it is healed. No one can tell you how long this willl take Until that day comes, be kind to your tummy, talk nice to it and ask it to please do a good job of digesting your food Give it some probiotics and digestive...
  24. I totally agree with you, Addy, that most of us would have the hairs rise on the backs of our necks and their radiators boil over if we could read our entire medical records, cover to cover, to find out not only what we have that hasn't been told to us, but what has been said behind our backs about what we (incorrectly) have or do not have, about the states...
