  1. Sadly, most gastroenterologists are not very well informed either .
  2. Going gluten free does give one unexpected surprises. For me I knew that corn and soy were problem foods, but I never suspected that nightshades (tomatoes and potatoes, ferevvinsake) could be a problem. Those were my comfort foods. Pizza always made me feel good. My favourite side dish was ratatouille with most of the nightshade family in there. Nevertheless...
  3. I too am intolerant of potatoes. I have found that the manifestations of intolerance take many forms. For me the intolerance has changed from formerly intense itching to now bloating and erratic heartbeats. One can never judge one's own reactions to something by how someone else reacts.
  4. Must be part of my broader popup problem (see Technical Help)
  5. Hi BramelyHall. I could not get your patriotoutreach link to load. Can you see if you can fix it?
  6. Hey there, you posted on a question I had regarding fiber and just general digestive issues back in January.I have since had a colonoscopy and was diagnosed with microscopic colitis. I just posted a reply to the other person who posted on the topic so if you would like the update feel free to check it out. Thanks for taking the time to reply! I appreciate it! I wish you well! My be...

  7. I had low B12, and I also had oversized red blood cells.
  8. Hi, Meghan, and welcome. Don't be discouraged quite yet, five days is a very short time. Give it another week or two and if it still persists I would start suspecting another food culprit. For me, it was potatoes. Soy also gave me the itchies, but I had a rash with that. But no rash with potatoes. Everyone reacts differently to different things...
  9. Did you know you had a problem with nightshades before going gluten free? I think for most of us we only find out after we get the gluten out of our systems, and then some, like me, take longer to figure it out...
  10. Just the very fact of your diagnosis and quitting eating gluten has increased your longevity odds immensely I really don't think you need fear an imminent demise. We eat more healthily than the rest of the population and may well outlast them all.
  11. The nightshades are a bit of a puzzlement to me. I initially gave them up because I knew they were inflammatory and I was concerned about my RA. Giving up bell peppers was easy because they never had sat well with me (I hated fajitas!) and I have not really missed eggplant, although strangely enough ratatouille used to be one of my signature dishes. So...
  12. No, I think it is just because most older people have never been diagnosed. I am sure both my parents had it and both lived to be 80 plus without diagnosis. My sister who is self-diagnosed just turned 75. I am a few years behind her (but still what you think of as "old") but only self-diagnosed two years ago. Don't forget the blood test was developed...
  13. No, the endoscopy is not a scary procedure at all, only the thought of it is scary. You will be medicated (sedated with a drug that will make you forget the procedure entirely) and will have no consciousness of what is happening. Usually, the only after effect you are likely to experience is perhaps a mild sore throat for a day and most don't even have...
  14. Is it a conscious big breath, or does it just happen??
  15. I, too, have these deep, sudden, unexpected breaths that I have no control over. I am not aware at the time of being short of breath (although I am chronically upon exertion because of COPD), but it seems like every ten minutes or so it "just happens" out of the blue. I once talked to my PCP about it, and she (she was a jerk) just kind of sneered/smirked...
  16. I was getting quite distraught about my hair loss, too, especially at the front. I had always had "too much" hair according to some hairdressers, but I was starting to look like a little old lady with receding hairline and almost bald patches at the front, and trying to bulk it up to make it look like I had more, and bring more and more hair forward into...
  17. Don't feel bad about being confused; most of us are in one way or another. Like, i have never heard of guar gum as having soy in it. I probably consume so little of and have so many itches that I am not aware of consuming it if it does have. I would be surprised though. I break out in very itch red rash from soy. So like you, chocolate is a problem...
