Gluten has a definite connection with joint pain. Gluten can cause an autoimmune response in the body of sensitive individuals, i.e., our immune system treats "normal" things as invaders and sends out all these little histamines to fight them, which causes inflammation, swelling, joint pain. In me it caused psoriatic arthritis, which is psoriasis and rheumatoid...

ARCHIVED Energy Level
mushroom replied to kschauer's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Afraid I can't help, but I have it too. I attribute it to my rheumatoid arthritis though, which has flared up. It is like everything I do, even keyboarding, is in slow motion. Legs are weak, arms and shoulders are weak and I fall asleep in a chair, zonk, at the drop of a hat. I am thinking of asking for a blood panel to check for dietary deficiencies... -
Thank you for your response Janet. As you realize, it confirms my latest thinking. I think I will start by eliminating soy and see if that helps. If no relief I will move on to complete dairy although I really haven't been eating a lot lately--occasional cheese. Cut out the breakfast yogurt. I will follow your advice on the magnesium and I do take potassium...

Two to three months for me. Just be patient. I have been on Dovonex and Halobetasol proprionate for four years now, along with other preparations for areas I would rather not discuss. It used to take me at least 10 minutes in the morning and evening to cream and ointment myself up! What a sticky mess. Yuck! Now I'm down to about 30 seconds morning and...

ARCHIVED What Proportion Are Self-diagnosed?
mushroom replied to CCM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am pretty sure my mom was celiac, or at least very gluten intolerant but would not admit it. Had the constant gassiness, swollen ankles, etc. My oldest sister is intolerant to gluten, salicylates and gets very sick from chemical sprays. My middle sister has many of the same symptoms as I had with the gassiness and bloating but thinks we are wusses--she... -
You bet your bottom dollar it could. I've had it (along with rheumatoid arthritis) for four years now, went gluten free in Nov. 07 and psoriasis has almost gone away. Still working on the arthritis though

ARCHIVED What Proportion Are Self-diagnosed?
mushroom replied to CCM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Speaking nonscientifically, for myself alone, I think so many of us by the time we realize we cannot do gluten have been to so many doctors and had so many wrong diagnoses, that we can't even be bothered with doctors any more. We just go on the diet, it works, so why waste the money and the aggravation. I have no children so it is not important to me that... -
I've had these symptoms too. I found out that the elevated heart rate and palpitations were related to gluten and have now gone away, as has the skipping heart beat. That can be scary! Sometimes it would skip several, beat for another ten or so, and then repeat the process. I had to just deep breathe and not panic and wait for it to pass. I have...

Hi All: I have been going through and re-reading the threads on rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis, and would like to revive this one for a moment. Please bear with me and help me if you can. I have psoriatic arthritis (diagnosed four years ago, negative RA factor) and have been through all the pharmaceutical treatments and became intolerant of them...

Hey, it's great to have that info. Thank you so much

Hey, that is great news. We come back to spend summers at Lake Tahoe and we cannot seem to be able to find a good doc in Carson City. Certainly willing to go to Reno. Since I am out of country at the moment, do you have a phone # for him by any chance? Neroli
-
Hi flourgirl: I am as new to this as you are, and "my name is Neroli, I am a bread-aholic." I have been pretty bread desperate the last three months while I have been deglutening my house (hard parts--sauces, processsed packaged mixes, pickles, the totally unexpected things like hair rinses, facial lotions, etc.). The breads you can buy just don't taste...

Ahh, the old weak leg problem. First developed for me when the first arthritic symptoms came on, long before the psoriasis, long before the gluten intolerance was discovered. Happened overnight, I went on a bus-trip outing and someone had to push me up the steps!! Has waxed and waned over the years with arthritis meds, etc., etc. Went away after I went...

ARCHIVED Itching Not From Dh Or Psoriasis
mushroom replied to mushroom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thank you, RiceGuy; I had not considered candida. Will have to look into that. I was used to getting my O-3's from flaxseed but the ND felt I would be better off with the fish. I find we all have our preferences/prejudices when it comes to O-3 sources. I did not know about chia seeds (like you grow on the pottery ornaments??) Sure hope I don't sprout... -
Please help; this itching is getting more than I can bear. I do have psoriasis (4 years), so know what that does. I do not have, as far as I can ascertain, from the descriptions and pictures, DH. I have no blisters or lesions, nothing that looks like chickenpox which the pictures show. This is a blanket red skin rash which is inflamed and seriously...

ARCHIVED Cosmetic Help
mushroom replied to DOCKLEARFAN's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Help, I need some assistance temporarily until I get back to USA this summer. I live in New Zealand but always stock up on US products when I come back summers because all cosmetics are so horribly expensive down here. I have been slow deglutening my house because I was really sick from other causes when I went gluten free, but finally completed my pantry... -
ARCHIVED Typical Weight Loss Plans And Gluten Loading
mushroom posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Back in the days when I thought I was just intolerant of corn and soy, and approaching 50 while being overweight, I started the Nutri-System diet program and also had devised for me a workout plan that worked around my various injuries. I was determined to be fit and fifty. So I bought all those processed foods in the little boxes, most of which contained... -
ARCHIVED Fell Off The Wagon

From what I have read some have incredible changes right away, others just keep plugging on and pretty soon become aware they are feeling better. For me, the arthritis... -

ARCHIVED Hives From Sublingual B12?
mushroom replied to mushroom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gee guys, thank you all for your responses. The bottle is small but I could read when I bought it that it was sugar, salt and starch free. I figured it couldn't have any gluten if it had no starch at all! The company is Solgar, made in USA, ingredients are mannitol (derived from plant sources), Vitamin B12 1000000 (as cobalamin prep), magnesium stearate... -
ARCHIVED Super Bowl Predictions
mushroom replied to Lisa's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Watched the first half with hubby with my feet up, dumb or what?? when I was going to the doc mid-game to complain about my swelling ankles!! Anyway, we don't really watch American football anymore, except for the Super Bowl (just to stay in touch), and also, we thought, for the commercials which is always the reason to watch the Super Bowl. We got to see... -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
mushroom replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Good to hear from you, Lux; welcome to our little subset of the forum. I think it is important that we stick together on this. Two weeks is really new, and if you have to wait for diagnosis that must be hard, having to consume gluten again. Good luck on getting the results you want. I have been gluten free for 2-1/2 months and have just deleted dairy... -
ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
mushroom replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Amber: Thought I would introduce myself as a Kiwi and not leave you so lonely out here trying to keep this Down Under thread going. Don't know if ESKAL will be imported over here--most of our gluten free stuff seems to come from Oz, mostly via Woolworths. I have been enjoying their new line of FreeFrom cookies (or biscuits if you must)--some with... -
ARCHIVED Hives From Sublingual B12?
mushroom posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I didn't know where else to put this so put it here. After reading the forum it seemed like a good idea to take a B12 supplement. I took a well-recognized brand of sublingual B12 that appeared to be gluten free though did not state that on the label. I purchased it from the herb centre where my naturopath practises. I added nothing else to my diet--in... -
ARCHIVED Could It Be That Simple?
mushroom replied to Muzz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, my name is Mushroom and I was a bread-aholic... Funny, after you stop it for a while you really don't want it that much any more. I go days without eating what are some pretty good non-gluten breads here in New Zealand (fermented buckwheat based), such that they sometimes mold in my fridge. I gave up pasta a long time ago because of the diarrhoea ...
