  1. Oh I remember the first normal BM that Annika had after her start on the gluten-free diet. I thought about recording it in her baby book LOL Congrats, it's a great feeling when you know your kid is feeling better. It makes you feel like all this work (figureing out the diet) really is worth it.
  2. Both of my girls have had biopsy, they couldn't eat after midnight, when we got to the hospital the nurse put numbing lotion on them, started an IV (which neither of them seemed to notice thanks to the numbing gel) and then gave them meds, they went to sleep, got scoped, biopsy-ed, and then went home. The more liquids they had post biopsy the less they felt...
  3. I know it's common sense, but you can't assume too much online.
  4. My oldest was 3 when my youngest had to go gluten free (they are both gluten free now) and she used to try to "share" too. The easiest thing to to is to explain "some people have special tummys that need special food, and if they get some kinds of regular foods it will make thier tummys sick, so can you help me make sure that we only give special foods...
  5. I would get her tested to rule out any problems, and if by some chance it isn't celiac disease then you are going to have to modify her diet a little, and take her out for more exercise. I had to do that for my 4 year old when they told me she was 5lbs overweight. It was fun to go run around the yard. The whole family can do it.
  6. I have memorized the list (pathetic right?) but it took me like 6 months, I used to read everything, even stuff I wasn't feeding to the gluten-free kid because I wanted to see if I could pick out "bad ingredients". I would take him off milk and dairy until he feels better, if he has damaged intestines he won't be able to digest it anyway, and it could...
  7. If you can talk them into testing him for celiac disease I would go that route. It sounds like it, but I am not a doctor, all I have is stories from others and experiences with my 2 girls. If they won't test him (some doctors are weird about it) then I would just try to put him on a restricted diet (gluten free, milk free, egg free) for a while and see if...
  8. you are in the right place. anything with wheat, rye, barley, or oats needs to be cut out. There is a pretty good list on this site of forbidden ingredients. (I don't have a link to it, but it comes up if you search) you need to be sure to read everything. Unless it is fresh meat (not smoked or lunch meat, but real straight off the animal meat) fresh...
  9. I have been to Denny's and have found it much easier to call ahead and talk to the manager something like 'we are planning on eating there tonight, we will be in about 7 and need a gluten free meal prepared' When you get there ask for the manager that you spoke with and ask him to oversee your visit, things seem to go a lot smoother that way.
  10. Open Original Shared Link My girls are still too young to do communion, but when we do I will provide my own wafers (link above) I have found that most people are willing to accomodate them in other areas, as long as they understand the risk of not doing so, and have info as to what they can do to help. I would print out some info on your son's condition...
  11. My girls have gotten into the habit of checking out everything before they even think of touching it, but it has taken a long time to get so diligent, and it doesn't really protect them from my own brain fog, like the time I ordered Annika chocolate milk at a restraunt and didn't check it, she was 1/2 way through with it when I picked it up and read that...
  12. Teacher- I am so sorry that you are having a rough go of it. I am too lazy to read the rest of the replies so if mine is a repeat of someone elses I am sorry. He is under a lot of stress, he may be worried about you, and worried about how this will affect his life as well. My best advice would be to have a big sit down talk (Guys hate those...
  13. I am so glad that things are going well My youngest has been gluten-free for about 18 months and my oldest has been gluten-free for about 3 weeks now, so even though I was used to the diet it was still a big change. If we can help with questions let us know.
  14. at a year babies can have just about anything you want to feed them (as long as they aren't allergic) you might try goats milk, it is good for an alternative to soy but it does have lactose.
  15. it is fun to squish, kinda like finger paint but washes off easier (since it has soap in it) at least that is what we do with it in my family when we are using it for art. we use barbasol.
  16. my daughters are actually the ones with celiac but since we all (my husband, myself, and both kids) have the same blood type, I voted for all of us O+
  17. Tea Tree Oil is good for bug bites, scratches, rashes, hives ect. Put it on full strength for small areas (bug bite) or mix it with olive oil for large areas (hives) you can also drop a few drops in your bath to help clear your sinuses.
  18. When Annika was diagnosed she was developmentally delayed (mainly motor skills) since she has been gluten free she has jumped ahead of the others and is almost on a three year old level, but she got accidentally glutened one day and for like a week it was like she zoned out and forgot everything.
  19. I brought apples and oranges for her lunch table today I think the kids like me again
  20. I like Miss Robens chocolate cake mix and I make my own frosting from Crisco, milk, powdered sugar, and vanilla, you can use food coloring to color it.
  21. yeah I screwed up big time. I was mad, and stressed out, and felt that my kid was being attacked and I didn't act like the person I am. I made a writen apology to the kid and his mom, and the school, and a public apology to the kids that were in the breakfast room. I am so ashamed. I let my stress over other things (like my best friend being in the hospital...
  22. I know, the more I have thought about it today, the worse I feel (not that they were right, but I was way wrong to do that) I need to give that kid a real apology that he understands that I screwed up. I was just getting so frustrated with them calling her names (like B**ch) and saying that she is a snob because she gets "special food" in retrospect...
  23. So, my 4 year old who is newly gluten-free (it's been almost 3 weeks today) eats breakfast at school, I was worried about cross-contamination so I decided to bring her own gluten-free breakfast for her everyday. problem? The older kids are giving her crap about how it is "unfair" that she gets the food she gets. (the kids in her class understand that she...
  24. I just remembered something, when my 2 year old was diagnosed at 1 she had lost about 60% of her weight . her doctor put her on pediasure for a few weeks (3 cans a day) and then her regular diet on top of that. she seemed to gain fast I know it is gluten, dairy, and nut free but I am not sure about anything else (like eggs) so you should check it was...
  25. you might want to check into the scd (specific carbohydrate diet) it is more restrictive than what he is on now, but people have really had a lot of success with it. My husband is on it for his crohns and says he has never felt better. Open Original Shared Link it's not really an unhealthy diet (fresh fruit, fresh veggies, gluten free, low fat ect...
