ARCHIVED Vitamins
Smunkeemom replied to lindalee's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
cassidy- Do you think your personal trainer was maybe trying to sell you some suppliments when he told you that? I am just asking because it's the same type of stuff my aunt who is in MLM selling vitamins says. Anyway, I have to get chewable vitamins, and I got a big huge bottle of them at Sam's a few weeks back, they are so good I feel better... -
my girls can't even touch gluten or they break out. I hear conflicting advice, some say shampoos don't need to be gluten free because you don't eat them, others say anything you touch needs to be gluten free. However, if you are having symptoms, and found wheat in your shampoo, I would toss it and get some gluten free shampoo and see if you feel...

ARCHIVED What To Request
Smunkeemom replied to silvervelvet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you are testing for Celiac there is a complete celiac panel. I hear that you have to be on a lot of gluten for a while to get a pos. test. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED When Celiac Kids "cheat" On Their Diet
Smunkeemom replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't know what to say, maybe you could scare them, the scare tactic works with me when I think about cheating on my diet, I say to myself "is a cookie worth cancer?" not that the cookie would actually give me cancer, but it could increase my cancer risk since I have celiac..... it's probably not a great idea to scare the crap out of your kids though... -
When I first started exercising again, I tried to add 5 minutes a week, so in 6 weeks I was doing 30 minutes a day. I am now doing 1 hour a day, and I have been holding at that for a while. At the first the 5 minutes a day doesn't feel like much at all, but it's a start and 5 minutes is better than nothing. It's good just to get started, and even if you have...

ARCHIVED Ibs Leads To Other Diseases....
Smunkeemom replied to danikali's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
90% of the people I know that have crohns or celiac, have been originally diagnosed with IBS, none of them had any labs or procedures prior to the IBS diagnosis, only after when they found out what was "really wrong". I haven't ever met anyone who had any tests prior to an IBS diagnosis, which is why I think it's what doctors tell you when they don... -
all I can find that's "official" is that she died of "acute bowel syndrome" which when I google that I get IBS, which IMO is BS. Maybe she did have celiac maybe she didn't, maybe I don't google properly I will keep looking though.

as far as I know infertility caused by celiac should right itself when you are healthy, it's like your body knows you are too sick to carry a child so it revokes that option. If however your infertility is caused by something else, I have no clue. As far as the newbie survival kit, you should PM nini, it's awesome. I just PM'd her with the subject ...

ARCHIVED An Update On My Daughter, Tianna
Smunkeemom replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had a friend who was in rehab once and her mom sent her an "I love you" book, she wrote a few stories about fun times they had together, then a page about all the wonderful qualities her daughter had. She left the rest of the book empty, her daughter wrote a few stories and mailed it back, then they went back and forth with that for a while, it was pretty... -
My family thought I was nuts saying that all of them probably had celiac too, but then we have my grandfather, me, my two girls, my uncle and now my mom, yeah I think it's a family thing. I am pretty sure there are others that have it too, but they are too stuborn to listen, all I can really do is pray for them. As far as the little bit making you sicker...

Nancy- it's different for everyone, depending on how sick you are and how long you have been sick, it could take a while for you to see any results. You should stay on the diet for sure. My daughters went gluten free before I did, and it took them a while to get to 100% at least 6-8 months, but they were young and heal faster than us. I have heard of people...

I try as much as possible to stick to the meat and veggies diet. steak and broccoli chicken and corn on the cob hamburger steak and mashed potatoes chicken fried steak (yeah you can make it with gluten free flour) and peas and carrots beans and fried potatoes roast and carrots with green beans if I just get bored with all that I make tacos,...

ARCHIVED At A Loss
Smunkeemom replied to silvervelvet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
she thinks unless you are "really sick" that you shouldn't "have to go on such a restrictive diet", according to her my celiac wasn't "turned on" because I didn't have chronic D (meaning not every single day) and I wasn't losing weight. My daughter (the youngest) was very very sick, and ended up weighing less than her birthweight at a year old, and eating... -
ARCHIVED At A Loss
Smunkeemom replied to silvervelvet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If I were you I would def. get tested, stay on the gluten for now so that the test is accurate. Get your lab results and look at them yourself, make sure you understand what your numbers should be and what they are. I was sick for years, and nobody ever even mentioned Celiac. I got diagnosed with IBS, ADD, Non-specific sezure disorder, depression, anxiety... -
ARCHIVED How Many: Blood Tests Negative, But Celiac Or Gluten Sensitive?
Smunkeemom replied to Mmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The doctor originally told me that my blood test was negative, but I found out 2 years later that it was positive, when I asked her about it she said "we don't like to put people on the gluten free diet unless they are really sick" I wonder how many "tested neg." but really had positive results. moral of the story: ALWAYS get your actual lab... -
I heard (from a completely unreputable source, so if it's wrong...you know) that he had other health problems caused by celiac (untreated celiac before he was diagnosed) that made it difficult for his body to respond to the diet. I can't remember what forum I read it on, and it was just what a poster said who "knew him" or whatever so it could be a...

ARCHIVED What Is "wasting" Or "wasted Buttocks"?
Smunkeemom replied to wonkabar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My 3 year old has been gluten free for 2 years (as of Monday, yeah we celebrated, but it's also her birthday so we were kinda celebrating anyway) she still has a bigger belly than rear end, but it's not as pronounced. I think that she is getting better proportioned though, maybe next year she will be "evened out" like her older sister. -
ARCHIVED What Is "wasting" Or "wasted Buttocks"?
Smunkeemom replied to wonkabar's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
wasting (afaik) means losing weight, the wasted buttox is where their little rears have no fat. I found a drawing of a celiac kid, and it really looks like my 3 year old did prior to being diagnosed, big hard belly, saggy thin rear end. -
ARCHIVED So My Wife Loves Bread Right....
Smunkeemom replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I never really liked bread, not really cookies or cakes, or anything. I do however miss the crap that's got wheat in it for no reason I can discern. It's like they sneak the wheat in there to bother me. sorry for the random rant. there are great gluten free alternatives, and you know, I am starting to really dig gluten free bread, it tastes good... -

Smunkeemom replied to Anglgrle3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I get where you are coming from. It's 100% safe to vent around here, we have all been through it. As far as the food? It's good when you start out, and then when you start feeling better IT ROCKS! I am making some Tinkyada pasta tonight with chicken and alfredo sauce, and I don't know how I lived without Tinkyada pasta before going gluten free, it's... -
I am almost done with mine, it should be commercially available by June of next year (gotta let people test if first) I wonder though with so many people having other "food issues" if a gluten free one is enough? It seems like I really need to work on ones for all kinds of intolerances, but then my goal of June 07 would have come and gone before I could...

Smunkeemom replied to Anglgrle3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am sorry you are having such a rough time of it. I hope that you find out soon what is wrong. Remember though, the doctors work for you. If you feel like they aren't 100% trying to help you figure out what's wrong, it's your duty to say something about it. As far as the yucky feeling, I used to like to drink Pediasure (yeah I know it's for kids, but...
