ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Juli - can you post that recipe on the Recipes section pleeease? Sounds good. Not fair to dangle the carrot and leave us hanging in mid-air! Ali. -
I had also read somewhere that Vit C helps to strengthen the arteries so that would tie in with your thought Tom. Not sure if cold would be the issue though - those people on the Eastern Seaboard of Siberia with Cholesterol of 2.8 or so would be living in a very cold environment, but then what is extremely cold to them may be absolutely freezing to us...

Most legumes and pulses including soy contain long-chain (di- and poly-saccharides) and those are the carbs that many of us lack the enzymes that would break them down into mono-saccharides that can be absorbed by the body. The following is a short basic explanation to that extent. Open Original Shared Link Soy has to be a starch to a certain...

Although I don't drink tea (my stomach doesn't like it), I do have an occasional coffee and an occasional (shh) cocoa and the coconut milk is fine in that. I have never noticed it separate. -

What about just using coconut milk - I do and it is delicious although I have never tried it in tea as I don't drink it. You can use it either freshly made from the coconut, tinned, dried or reconstituted from a block. It is rich and creamy. If you make it from fresh or a block by using less water you can make coconut cream which I love and almost prefer... -
Millet is a grain, soy is a starch as is rice milk, corn is also a starch - all of which are best avoided when you are fighting candida. Soy is terrible stuff and best avoided in any processed form. Unlike the ancient traditional ways of preparing it like in miso, tempeh and tofu which used soaking and fermenting to neutralise phytates etc, modern processed...

I hope 'Debbie' doesn't mind - I have copied a couple of her recipes on to the thread from Pecanbread as they look good and well worth a try. Mock Nachos by Debbie Ingredients: Peeled neck portion of butternut squash, nut butter (stage 2) or guacamole (stage 1) as desired Cooked cubed chicken Preheat oven to 400 F Slice the neck of a butternut... -

Hi dawn, yes Elaine mentions that Medjool and California dates are legal - I thought perhaps she meant fresh rather than dried but could be either. About dried fruit in general she mentions that dried fruit may encourage pathogenic overgrowth because it is so concentrated and has little water content, but does say that we may be able to cope with them... -
I would absolutely endorse Lovey's suggestions - Antifungals won't work in the long term unless you change the environment for the yeasts/Candida. Although I don't have Hashimoto's I am diabetic and suspect that the 'auto-immune' problem with my Pancreas may well have been triggered by the Candida and/or other pathogens. I had a glut of colds, coughs...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Marie, I wonder if you might have a microbe or something in your mouth/throat/gullet/esophagus or trachea/lungs that is causing an inflammation. Mucous is usually the body's way of trying to protect itself. It has always been a problem for me although it does seem a little better since starting the SCD. Although some things have vastly improved or... -

Magnesium definitely can give you diarrhea - I have a friend who takes it for the C problem and I would suspect that liquid magnesium may well be more concentrated or easily assimilated and so be more likely to cause the problem. Can you cut down the amount? Usually vitamin C will cause the same thing to happen - that is one way of telling what your optimum... -

I picked this recipe up on another thread and have adapted it for the SCD. No Bake Apple Pie 8 oz. chopped pitted dates 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans 2 Tbsp honey 7-8 medium sized apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4" thick 2 Tbsp lemon juice (optional) 1/2 cup apple cider (or apple juice) 2 Tbsp butter or ghee 1 Tbsp honey pinch of ground cinnamon... -
ARCHIVED Gingivitis Or Food Reaction?
AliB replied to LuvMoosic4life's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The red dots are blood blisters. I have had them occasionally - usually near my tonsils at the back of my mouth and usually in response to eating plums of all things (which I now usually avoid unless cooked), but then I have had allergic reactions to peaches and nectarines and occasionally apples and strawberries and they are the same family (rosacea - apples... -

Whatever takes my fancy. Some say not to mix fruit and veg but I do and seem to be ok with it. I tend to favour a banana, couple apples - cored, but only peeled if they are not organic or the peel is a bit tough, 2 carrots peeled, a good handful of grapes, a good chunk of cucumber, a good handful of washed salad leaves and I top up the blender jug with... -

I think Juli that it takes time for the body to readjust itself. There is a health guru here in the UK who has a thing about poop. She was saying that apparently people in say, Nigeria, will go at least once a day and will do about 3 or 4 times the quantity of us over here. But then they probably generally eat a lot more raw food than we do and if... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

I love that description Rinne! As humans we have become so dependent on the Medical Profession to give us a 'pill for all ills' that no one seems any more to realise that if you are not pooping properly its because you are causing it yourself. We seem far to quick to fob it all off a 'age' or 'just a part of life' simply because 'everyone else' appears... -

Pff - wish I did!!! It is clinging on for dear life - little short of starvation would shift it I reckon, but then I am on insulin so maybe it would take even more than that - come to think of it, if I was starving I wouldn't need the insulin......... -

Hi Lovey, welcome to the thread. You are so right - I have started to get so suspicious now of stuff out there and cast a critical eye over it all - even raw food is not always good. Our supermarket shelves are packed full of fruit and veg that has been 'ready prepared' for all those lazy people who just want to open a pack and boil the brains out of it... -

Hi Whitney - that's better! As far as the medication goes I think you are just going to have to 'play it by ear'. Just watch and see how your body reacts to the changes. I had IBS for years, mostly D, yet although generally it is fine now I do tend sometimes to veer slightly more towards C. I am still trying to figure out why. Although I don't have... -

Oh Mia, that must be so frustrating! Something must be triggering the histamine somehow. Why the heck would it be doing that? Could it be a microbe that is triggering a response? You seemed to be improving - has anything changed? I Googled 'natural antihistamine' and a few ideas came up. Do you take any extra Vitamin C? It is apparently a good... -

Hiya (I can't call you 'wschmucks'! It's too complicated to type!!!) Welcome to the 'club'. Pecanbread is a very good site with loads of useful info. As the benefit of the SCD is becoming more widely known there are loads of new sites and blogs springing up all the time with loads of scrummy recipes too. We have an SCD recipe thread on the 'Recipes... -
The problem with drug-based antifungals is that they only tend to work as a short-term fix. Unless you change the environment within the body that contributes to the growth of the Candida etc., it will likely just keep coming back. It is a natural part of gut flora and when under control is generally harmless or may even be beneficial - it is when it...

ARCHIVED New: Need Advice On Coffee And B12
AliB replied to Ms Jan's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Coffee is a bell. Pavlov's Dog and all that. Certain things trigger certain actions - like some people have to have a cigarette with a cup of coffee, or they can't have a cup of tea without a biscuit or cookie, or they see an advert on the TV for crisps and have to go and get a packet. It is just a matter of retraining the mind. Its like if you decide... -

Here is another one I haven't tried but that looks good - it might also be useful to look on Erin's 'nomorecrohns' website as she lists what looks like a yummy Pumpkin Ice Cream recipe that contains no eggs. This one has Almond flour but you should be able to substitute for hazelnut or any other that you wish. Applesauce is one of the intro foods, so...
