ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I would endorse what Mia said, but if you feel you really need to have some fruit I would suggest that you confine it to the morning. Fruit is very cleansing and helps the body detoxify, but is much better eaten on its own. I tend not to eat until mid-morning, then I usually have an apple followed by a banana or some other fruit an hour or so later if... -
ARCHIVED Food Intolerance Elimination Diet
AliB replied to Rhoger1's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I think the healing process is dependent on many different factors - how efficient our bod is at cleaning itself up, how bad the damage is, where the damage is, etc. Most of us want instant results but in reality of course damage happens over time and it takes time to put it right. The diet does work but it is slow - too slow for some if they are impatient... -
ARCHIVED Scd Without Dairy And Nuts Anyone?
AliB replied to Yenni's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Yenni. You can follow the SCD without dairy or nuts. Many of us have found that we can't even cope with some of the SCD 'legal' foods at the beginning and actually trying to persevere with them can sometimes be unhelpful and possibly even contribute to either keeping the damage going, or at least slowing the healing rate. I think that one thing... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Martha. I'm not sure that we can determine that the diet isn't necessarily working - only that the gut damage we have is perhaps limiting the foods we can cope with. Even some SCD 'legal' foods can sometimes be more than our gut can deal with so maybe we just have to take a step back and reduce the food types until we find a combination that both... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

Thought I would post this as an interesting article about SIBO and how it may be a contributory factor in fructose intolerance for those who seem to have this issue. Open Original Shared Link Ali. -
ARCHIVED Food Intolerance Elimination Diet
AliB replied to Rhoger1's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Rhoger - I see this so often - those who drop gluten then find that they are also or become intolerant of one food after another. I have come to the conclusion, like quite a few others on here, that the biggest culprit is gut dysbiosis and almost certainly liver congestion. If the gut flora is decimated that will allow pathogenic microbes a keyhole... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Jan, obviously I am not an expert but I would agree with Sherry that it is common to get set-backs as you go through the process. It is still early days and although the stress may well be a factor - it is possible that you might also have had a detox session. I am wondering whether the problems you are experiencing with certain foods might be suggesting... -
ARCHIVED Dedicated Scd Recipe Thread
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Mm. I like this with apple and a little cinnamon. I am also going to make the Almond Cake that I posted earlier with blueberries added. I have made almond blueberry muffins and they are good - my grandson came back for fifths! The Zucchini Pizza sounds good too - haven't done that one yet but will have to get the ingredients and try it. -
Hi Lexi. You haven't given any more info about your situation - your diet etc., so it is difficult to make any kind of real suggestions, but I would say that unless you change your diet to make the environment uncomfortable for the Candida or any other pathogenic microbes, anything you take will be only a temporary knock-back to the beasties. The...

Some of the 'legal' foods on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet that I am following are nuts, but some do find that initially they can't cope with them until well into the diet when the gut has started to heal more. I had issues with quite a lot of foods at the beginning, like eggs and nuts. Egg tolerance came a few weeks later and now, a year later, I seem...

ARCHIVED Scd Diet Or Paleo Diet?
AliB replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Kath. I think you will find that the SCD and Paleo-type diets will help Colitis of any kind - the SCD was specifically designed for this problem although it is beneficial for a lot of other health issues too . You haven't said whether you are still following it. Please feel free to join in with the SCD thread. You can jump in at the last/current page... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi. Welcome to the thread. Many fall into the trap of thinking that just because a food is SCD legal, it must be ok, when in fact not even all legal foods can be tolerated at the start when the gut is really damaged. That is why the diet recommendation is to start with the intro and gradually add different foods as more toleration is reached. I could... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The tummy bug may well have made things worse and allowed the Food Poisoning to take hold, but without weakened flora you would have been far less likely to have even had the tummy bug. Although they are often caused by viruses, again the body is usually adept at fighting them off too if it is strong enough, after all, not everyone catches them. Those that... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Yoekie. The problem with stooltests is that they really only indicate what is going on in the colon. If your problems are in the upper intestine then it is possible that it wouldn't show up. Certain parasite activity wouldn't necessarily show up either, so I am not sure that Bacterial overgrowth or imbalance can be absolutely ruled out. Plus, of course... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi all. Been away for a week - went to Cornwall for a break which was good, but ended up sloshing hot oil all over my left hand on Thursday. I tripped down a step I didn't realise was there (unfamiliar surroundings) and I went one way and the pan went the other and took my hand with it. It's ok. Nice blisters and extremely red but still working. I had... -
ARCHIVED Daily Gas And Bloating - What Could It Be?
AliB replied to blahtom123's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Jennifer. It's worth a try. Many find that they drop gluten, then start getting problems with say, corn, or soy, or potatoes. It is often carbs that seem to trigger the gas. I think that when gluten is removed the bacteria just transfer over to another food source instead. I have noticed that when I removed gluten I felt great for about 2 days then... -

Sherry, is it worth you trying virgin Coconut oil? It seems to be anti-protozoan amongst all the other 'anti's'. I know you said you can't cope with it but that may actually be a reaction to it by the pathogens. I am viewing this as another avenue through which to tackle the beggars, and so far I am hopeful. The fact that I have more energy suggests... -
ARCHIVED Daily Gas And Bloating - What Could It Be?
AliB replied to blahtom123's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have had this issue and wondered why. I was sure it was somehow connected to pathogenic bacteria in my gut - possibly Candida, but didn't know how. Recently I visited a Colonic Hydrotherapist for treatment and she explained that the bacteria produces gas when it has nothing to feed on. Give it food and it is happy, but an empty gut or one filled... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I did the peanut butter thing at the beginning too - ooh, ooh, something yummy I can eat! I eventually had to back off all things 'nut' for a while as my body really couldn't cope with them, but I seem to be ok now. I think i was fooling myself that because I was eating it with celery and apples it was ok but I think we have to be careful not to 'dive... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Martha, two weeks is very little time to see any improvement yet. Elaine G recommended at least 3 months and I would say that some of us were on it for as long as 6 months before we really started to notice any kind of real improvement. Just as it took time for your body to get into this state, it will also take time to get it back to health. We don... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Caprylic Acid is of course derived from Coconut, which, because it is a powerful anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-parasitic, is why it works so well. Sherry and Figgy, the problem you have with not being able to tolerate it very well could well be a 'fight-back' by the parasites, etc., in your system. Have you tried taking the pure organic virgin... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well, I have had more energy today and felt better generally after having the coconut oil so I am going to keep on with that. I read that it is an old remedy for constipation and it certainly seems to be working on that front. Weirdly, in the night I had a sudden bout of restless legs for 20 minutes or so as all the gurgling was going on whilst everything... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
This is an interesting link, and site, concerning the benefits of Coconut Oil. Open Original Shared Link I took two teaspoonsful last night before I went to bed and I tell you - World War 3 woke up in my intestines! Not diarrhea or anything, but there was certainly an awful lot of gurgling and movement going on. It kept me awake for a while, but I... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Sherry, I'm not really sure, but I had been taking the Wormwood prep for about three weeks beforehand. I had also been drinking pau d'arco and oregano herb tea twice a day, taking goldenseal and echinacea, raw garlic and pure garlic capsules. I wonder now whether the strong approach caused a rapid die-off and released a host of stuff into my system. ... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Having finished the Liver Detox book I am cemented in my belief that the SCD works because it helps the liver to heal as well as the gut. Certainly there are big similarities between the two as they both concentrate on the basic pure foods. Perhaps the Liver Diet may work a little quicker than the SCD but to be quite honest, after having gone through...
