ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Could be a bit of everything that is contributing to the feelings of satiation. If you are not giving the beasties their food then they have no choice but to die back and if they are no longer demanding to be fed (FEED ME, SEYMOUR) then they won't be grumbling any more and hopefully, neither will your tum! Certainly the more nutritious the food the... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

As far as constipation protocol goes, I picked this up from Donna Gates' website - it seems that too much serotonin is as bad as too little for triggering C, which is why I asked if you were on any meds, DT. As Anti-depressants raise the amount of serotonin in the body, if you are on those then it is possible that magnesium could make the C worse. I... -
ARCHIVED Possible Or Practical To Get Doctor

Celiac can by its very nature be difficult to pick up - apparently only 1% of sufferers are ever diagnosed. Even if you are Celiac the tests can sometimes come back negative (false negatives) and it usually takes a biopsy to determine the diagnosis. Problem is that Doctors generally won't recommend a biopsy unless you have a positive blood result! In... -

Are you on any prescription medications? Just trying to pick up clues as to why magnesium would make your constipation worse when for most people it alleviates it! -

Hiya, welcome to the thread. The bubbles are pretty intriguing. Have you been tested for different bacteria and/or parasites? Certain bacteria like Candida for instance do contribute to gas and can generate carbon dioxide when presented with certain substances. If in your lower right side it sounds as if it is concentrated around the lower area of the... -
ARCHIVED Possible Or Practical To Get Doctor

Many people are lactose intolerant and Celiacs are no exception to that - the damage limits the amount of lactase that is made in the gut. Good, well-fermented yogurt usually is tolerated because some of the lactose is pre-digested by the probiotic bacteria. Most commercially-made yogurt is cultured for around 6 -8 hours, which is ok, but a longer fermentation... -

Currently I am ploughing through a book I got recently called 'Not on the Label - What really goes in to the food on your plate' by Felicity Lawrence. It is a real eye-opener. I am working through the chapter on bread at the moment. To summarise the portion I have been reading........ Modern bread is not made or baked the traditional time-honoured... -
Oh right! Sorry, didn't get your point first off. Absolutely they can be hidden in all sorts of forms but things like corn syrup is by far one of the worst culprits - usually labelled as things like dextrose. Fancy telling your Mom to try sugar-free and then not explaining what he/she meant by it? Duh. Personally, I would interpret it to mean anything...

ARCHIVED Are Allergy Tests Worth It?
AliB replied to darkhorse's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I think when we are at the worst stages of the gut damage that we can react to all sorts of things. When my digestion collapsed there was little I could eat without some kind of reaction - even the Intro staple of the SCD chicken soup was causing me problems so I had to back off that and go with turkey and fish. I had problems with eggs and other SCD 'legal... -
ARCHIVED Are Allergy Tests Worth It?
AliB replied to darkhorse's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi. Allergies and intolerances are not the same. Allergies trigger a histamine response which usually results in a very pronounced reaction - eyes, mouth, tongue swelling, breathing can be affected, acute rashes, whatever, but usually very definitive. Intolerances though can manifest in many different ways. Things like congestion/mucous are usually... -
Um, my take on sugar free means, well, sugar-free, the same as dairy free means no dairy? Sugar is a big trigger for some people. Did the GI not give any information?? The only possibility that may help is Stevia. You can usually get it from a Health Store. It is very sweet but does not work in the body the same way as sugar so you don't need much...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Jenn. So glad you've had a better day today. I know what it's like - when you are so bad, anything better than bad is a bonus! It will be trial and error for a little while, but hopefully you will be able to settle in to some sort of 'comfort zone' food-wise. As far as prescription 'junk' is concerned my main thought on that is that it is... -
Hi Rhoger - as Lisa said, you can follow the SCD thread - just jump in on the last page. That is where those of us on the diet tend to 'congregate'. You can start a topic on pretty much anything else to do with Food Intolerance in this section but it seems that the SCD has to be confined to its own thread! We will probably have to start a new one eventually...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Rhoger. Welcome to the world of the SCD........... First thing first. How long have you been gluten and dairy free? You can take probiotics if your gut copes with them ok. The brand does make a difference. Quite a few use Kirkman's which is SCD compliant. Some do find that they do better without Probios for a while, so the most important thing... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Jenn - welcome to our 'little' thread! I think Jan has covered pretty much the things you can try - I understand it is frustrating. I was fortunate initially because removing gluten from my diet helped a lot but it still took several weeks before my digestion started to come back. I removed gluten and dairy on the last day of Jan 08 as I had also... -
Hi Steve. Well done you for doing the cooking and great that you have access to good food. Being vegetarian is fine as long as you don't have any gut damage to prevent you absorbing enough nutrients from your food to make up the amino acids for the protein count. Some vegetarians can end up with malabsorption issues though because they base their diet...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Michelle. It was interesting your mention of your dog and the SIBO. At the end of the day animals, particularly pets, are exposed to a lot of the same chemicals that we are, but most importantly, most dog (and cat) foods contain wheat and other horrible stuff. As these animals are carnivorous it is not surprising that they are getting similar issues... -
Hi Steve. Welcome to the forum. Many who are gluten intolerant find that they are also intolerant of other foods. Many of them can be other carbohydrates. You do seem to also have reactions to foods of the nightshade family - potatoes, tomatoes and peppers too. Whilst a lot of these intolerances can be down to, and the cause of gut damage, I am sure...

These bods so love to scaremonger! They are so arrogant in their 'knowledge' that they are always convinced they know best. If people needed grains in order to exist, how the heck are the Inuit still alive? And those on tropical islands on their diets of fish and fruit? And those in extreme hot and cold climes who can't grow grains? Duh! Good sources...

Chaty, what makes you think that you may be lacking in anything? Have you been tested and found to be lacking or are you just assuming it to be so because of the lack of grains? Don't forget that a huge proportion of the World's population exist perfectly healthily without any grains whatsoever. As Laurie said, grains don't contain anything that can...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

Oh, it's made like a cucumber raita you have with curry?? Yes, that would make sense. I just looked that up on Delia online. I have made it before but not for some time. -
ARCHIVED Dr. Adamo's " Eat Right For Your Blood Type"
AliB replied to Cinnamon7778's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Personally, I am of the 'don't knock it until you've tried it' kind of school. I actually rooted out my books a few weeks back and have been looking through it again. I never really got into it the first time round, but I think that like a lot of these diets there are elements of truth in them all even if no one has it all right all the time! It is... -

Mm. Sherry, that sounds good - what spices do you add? Can you post it on the Recipe thread? One thing I would add is that the whey that is dripped out also contains bacteria and good stuff so for anyone not quite sure what to do with it - don't throw it down the sink. It can be drunk as is or added to smoothies, etc. -

I was thinking about what you said concerning the commercial juice not causing the same issue as fresh juice - perhaps that is because they are getting lots of nothing very much but sugar in the commercial stuff that has no enzymes (they are destroyed during the heating process they usually have to put it through to kill bacteria). Perhaps they only react... -
