ARCHIVED Dedicated Scd Recipe Thread
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Gentleheart - I haven't tried this recipe but it looks pretty good and doesn't contain eggs or almonds. EGGLESS BROWNIES 3 cups Pecan Flour (or any alternative) 2 pears (peeled and cored) 1/4 cup ghee (you can use butter if tolerated or coconut butter) 1 tsp baking soda 1/8 tsp salt 1/2 tsp Vanilla 1/4 tsp nutmeg or cinnamon Preheat oven to ... -

I have come across this recipe today and they are very yum. Only suitable for those who can tolerate eggs unfortunately. Raspberry Friands (yes, 'free-yaands' - it's french for 'partial to, or fond of. Apparently it also means 'sausage roll'!). They are hot in Oz apparently. 2 1/2 cups Almond (or alternative) meal 1 cup chestnut flour (or alternative... -
ARCHIVED Past Food Intollerence Test...advice On How To Move Forward
AliB replied to wschmucks's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Are you still on dairy? What I found was that although my IBS manifested as chronic diarrhea, when I dropped the gluten I then realised that dairy was making me constipated. The gluten had been masking the dairy intolerance. It may be worth trying dairy-free for 2 or 3 weeks to see if it helps. I avoid soy like the plague and tend to have either almond... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My personal feeling is that microbes of some kind or other is behind the poor digestion somewhere along the line. Whether it is yeasts or some other microbe/s or parasites science is yet to find out, but as so many appear to have issues with yeasts/Candida I would be surprised if it wasn't the guilty party. Yeasts do digest sugars - its what they do... -

I just have this feeling that we jolly along, perhaps with a few niggly health issues here and there but generally ok, until suddenly, as you say, everything comes crashing down. The annoying health problems are undoubtedly signals telling us that something is not right, but unfortunately we either don't understand them or we just carry on regardless trying... -
ARCHIVED Questions For Corn Allergic
AliB replied to christicrete's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Chaty, what seems to link them all is the fact that they all provide some form of carbohydrate, and it is the long-chain (poly-saccharide) carbohydrate element that many do not seem to cope with. For some, it may start with gluten-based carbs but eventually seems to graduate to other carb forms too. Carbs have been a problem for me for years - the only... -
ARCHIVED Migraines From Alcoholic Beverages

I have been battling with Candida for 30 years (well that's when I became aware of it - it could be even longer!) and although I used to drink alcohol pretty heartily when in my late teens, by the time I got to my mid-20's I could cope with it no longer. I too am convinced that it is the Candida and possibly other pathogens that have been behind that and... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
That's me - I was formula fed and wouldn't be at all surprised if that's where it all started. Funny isn't it, my Mum couldn't feed me properly so I was formula fed, I only managed to feed both of my children for 6 weeks before my milk dried up, and my daughter only managed to feed both her boys for about 6 weeks before hers dried up. Talk about history... -

I'll have to watch my husband with that then - he's off gluten but still on dairy. When he's in a mood, it's never him, it's everyone else that is the problem! His moods are better since he went gluten-free but there is always room for improvement! I have managed to just get him on to goats milk and it will be interesting to see if it makes any difference... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I thought Dogtor J's explanation of the problems with milk was very enlightening - he was saying that although some seem to have a problem with lactose it is usually the casein that is the main problem - the protein part of the milk, like gluten protein is in wheat. Not only does it glue up the digestive system but it provides casomorphins, which like gliadorphins... -
I get strange on and off ringing in my ears from time to time - I had it for a few weeks and it wasn't till I read this thread I realised its not there any more. Weird. I do have a cold - perhaps the goo has muffled it! No, seriously, I am pretty sure it had gone before I had the cold - where did it go, and why? I do definitely experience the ear...

ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)

Gentleheart, I use hazelnuts either whole and ground myself or ready ground, cashews, pecans, walnuts - it's just a case of experimenting. Do you have a reaction to whole almonds, or just almond meal? What is your reaction? Again, I found that nuts were problematic for me when my digestion was bad, but gradually I have been better able to cope with... -
ARCHIVED Migraines From Alcoholic Beverages
AliB replied to ilikepie's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The back pain throws a whole different light on it - it sounds as though your liver may well be complaining at the overload. As the alcohol is processed in the liver, if it is already struggling then it is just adding to its stress and the more stressed it is the less it can cope and the more toxic we become. If the liver cannot process the alcohol properly... -
ARCHIVED Migraines From Alcoholic Beverages
AliB replied to ilikepie's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have reacted to alcohol for years - in fact I haven't had any for years apart from a very occasional small glass of very low alcohol plonk (which I seem to be ok with) and an odd glass of well-diluted Pimms now and again (both of which I seem to be ok with in the occasional tipple) as I didn't like the way it made me feel (I wish chocolate had the same... -

Hi Rinne - how am I feeling today? Hmm. Today I am feeling a little better - the cold seems to be packing its bags. For the last 4 days i have just moped around feeling sorry for myself, but I think I am heaving myself out of that. How am I feeling today, as in generally, well not so bad. When I first started GFDF I set out a list of all the things... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Juli - I know where you are coming from on the backward step thing. I find that when I alter my diet fairly radically I feel great for a short while but then I seem to, for no explicable reason, go back downhill again. As Rinne says, it could be die-off but my theory is that it could also be a little more sinister than that. I feel that it may well... -

Well done that man - we need all the support we can get! Just out of interest did it mention when the reply was received? It did start to look at the thread but only got as far as the first page.... Nobody smiles in London! They reckon that London is the loneliest place on the planet. We used to live there and I couldn't wait to get out of it, but... -
ARCHIVED Potatoes.. + Sweet Potatoes + Yams?
AliB replied to raisin's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I eat squash instead of potatoes or yams. Butternut is gorgeous with butter (I do have a bit of that as it is mainly fat). Spaghetti squash makes neat spaghetti. Peeled and chopped into large chunks and put in a baking dish with chunked carrots, beetroot, parsnips, quartered onions and anything else that takes your fancy, drizzled with olive oil (move... -

Thanks for the confidence boost Laurie You know what they say - cool, calm and collected on the surface and paddling furiously under water! It has been particularly cold - yes, definitely bone-chilling, here this Winter. The real cold doesn't really usually start until at least December or even January, but it hit early this year and has outstayed... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I tried making some almond meal blueberry pancakes for breakfast and they are still getting stuck in my gullet and giving me indigestion. I seem to be able to eat whole nuts ok, and I'm ok with eggs and blueberries and butter and, as far as I am aware, honey so that just leaves either the soda or something in the cooking process that my digestion doesn... -
ARCHIVED Potatoes.. + Sweet Potatoes + Yams?
AliB replied to raisin's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
What relates them is that they are all starches and the starch content could be one possibility. Do you have issues with any other starches? Sometimes we can develop intolerances to different food - with some it may be corn, others, soy, or rice or, as you may be experiencing, potatoes. I do wonder if some of us have undetected issues with microbes or... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
A friend of the family said years go that she was convinced I had thyroid problems, but although it has been checked over the years nothing has shown up. It could be sub-clinical but I don't have any blatantly obvious symptoms that would indicate it. I know one of the symptoms was feeling cold - but I have always been the other way until now. My thermostat... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
AliB replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I think maybe it might be time to start reintroducing some baked almond bits back in - I stopped them as I really wasn't coping with them very well, but I do have nuts as is and seem to be reasonably ok with them now. It's just a case of trying I guess. The Diabetes restricts me more than some because I have to be SO low carb and I think that is why I... -

I was making these as waffles in my waffle maker and they were good in that, although I made them in the early days and found that I couldn't tolerate them so well - I haven't made them for a while so might just try again. I have also added blueberries to the mix back then and cooked them as pancakes in a good non-stick pan (don't do as I did and try to... -
ARCHIVED Serious Anxiety....which Seems To Affect Everything!
AliB replied to givenupgluten's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My daughter takes St Johns Wort for her anxiety, and although not completely gone it is a LOT better. She was verging on Bipolar on a few occasions it was so bad and I was terrified at her state of mind - in the pit one minute and bouncing off the walls the next, with no rhyme of reason! Her Doctor put her on Citalopram but she was so bad on them with tremors...
