  1. Dawn, you have to bear in mind that not all bacteria are life-threatening. But some are extremely debilitating. If you have shot adrenals and a poor immune system you can bet your bottom dollar that they are running themselves ragged trying desperately to keep the 'wolves from the door'. Some of the parasites and micro-organisms are, well, parasitic...
  2. Yes, I accept that, but, and it is a huge but, there are thousands on this site alone who are not getting better on just a gluten-free diet. They are constantly struggling - battling against horrendous other health issues and intolerances. The SCD is a lifeline. It does work. It may not be an overnight miracle diet (although most see a good result within...
  3. Difficulty swallowing can also quite simply be due to Candida. Commonly the foods that are most likely to get 'stuck' are starchy carbs - potatoes, corn, soy, etc. Candida can also contribute to a dry throat and eyes - I have systemic Candida and I have all of those problems, and more. I wonder if Sjogrens might not be down to Candida..............?...
  4. Many don't get better on gluten-free. Whilst some health issues may improve, many don't and sometimes even get worse. Many of us actually have issues with rogue bacteria, yeasts and even in some cases parasites. I can see by the evidence of the Leaky Gut that Candida is very likely an issue for you and may well be accompanied by other pathogens. The...
  5. Many don't get completely well on gluten-free - they think they must be getting glutened when in fact, they are actually reacting to other foods, usually carbs. gluten-free foods are typically much higher in carbs than even gluten foods and can sometimes actually make things worse rather than better, although there can sometimes be an initial improvement...
  6. I agree with Kristin - I completely advocate the SCD. Yes it is limited - but only from the foods that are contributing to the damage. I see this all the time from people who are gluten-free but not getting better. Whilst removing just gluten may impact somewhat on health issues it does not necessarily get at the root of the problem - the Leaky Gut....
  7. For anyone not getting better on gluten-free, please check out the Specific Carb Diet (SCD). It has a fantastic track record for benefitting those who have intolerance to other foods and who are still suffering with various health issues, whether physical or mental. There is a thread on the 'Other Food Intolerances' section and also 2 great websites ...
  8. Please check out the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. There is a thread on the 'Other Food Intolerances' section and websites like 'breaking the vicious cycle' and 'Pecanbread' are full of info. Many of us who are and have suffered with multiple allergies and intolerances and who have not improved on just gluten-free, have finally found relief for the first...
  9. Hi Scott and all in charge of the forum. We are gathering quite a following on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. It is proving to be a lifeline for many who have not regained their health since going gluten-free, whether Celiac or GI. A suggestion was made by someone who was having great difficulty ploughing through the almost 70 pages of the current...
  10. Hear, hear, Sherry. There are of course, dedicated SCD websites with their own forums, but there are so many struggling on here that would benefit from the diet that it would be hard to abandon it for other climes. I just wish we could put a banner at the top of every section to direct people to it first before they end up posting yet another desperate...
  11. I have had similar problems, but since being gluten-free and particularly since being on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD - see thread on 'Other Food Intolerance' section and check out 'breaking the vicious cycle' and 'Pecanbread' websites for more info) it is a lot better as are many other of my health issues.
  12. Another thing - I have just been reading about St John's Wort. I hadn't realised that it is quite a potent antibacterial and antiviral - it is even being looked at as a possible alternative remedy for antibiotic-resistant Staph. Aureus. Interestingly, my daughter, who has had major mental health issues bordering on Bipolar (and who I am convinced is struggling...
  13. Funny isn't it how when you start the SCD you suddenly become avid poop inspectors! I have to say that after all these months I have never seen anything remotely resembling a parasite - but then I suspect some of them are so small they may not be that obvious. I certainly think that my problem is more likely to be bacterial but where to start...
  14. Soy gives me backache and stomach discomfort. It is getting better since I started the Specific Carb Diet(SCD) but then soy is one of the things that is not permitted on the diet for the very reason that a lot are intolerant of it. Processed soy stuff is pretty evil. The Japanese eat a lot of it but they have it fresh and fermented in the way of miso...
  15. Diabetics get neuropathy, but so do people without diabetes. There has to be some common factor - the factor is highly likely to be some kind of deficiency due to gut damage and malabsorption. If ever they bothered to check for gut damage in those with neuropathy, whether diabetic or not they would almost certainly find a history of digestive issues....
  16. Don't quote me on it but I am not sure that is a good idea - it is hydrochloric acid after all. At least the capsules will keep it encapsulated until it gets into the stomach. We can tolerate acid foods, but HCL is pretty strong stuff.
  17. I don't know on that one, Sherry. It must certainly make a difference - but then perhaps that is because of the reduction in the amount of, and type of carbs. Certainly it helps and supports the immune system and that alone must be a great help in combating the beasties but whether it actually gets rid of them is an unknown factor. I suspect that when...
  18. Dawn. if the Neem is in capsule form I wonder whether it might be helpful to open a capsule each day, either first thing in the morning or last thing at night and take it in a little warm water to get it into your mouth and down your gullet. That way you will get it right through your digestive tract. Shay, you have used it, do you think that might help...
  19. I am not convinced that gut flora may not be affected by stress, either physical or emotional. If the flora is already somewhat compromised, a trauma could just be enough to tip the balance. So many parts of the body are involved - the adrenals, the immune system, the Liver and Kidneys, etc., that if any one of them isn't working properly it can have a...
  20. Jaime, I see from your signature that you have problems swallowing. Candida can do that. I suspect there may be other pathogenic bacteria that can do it too, but it is very common especially when trying to swallow starchy carbs like potato. Tongue in cheek, I suspect it is the little beggars all jumping up and down at the feast that is heading towards...
  21. Kristina - when you had your 'gallbladder attack' did you get the floaty stool thing with it? When I was given the Byetta my stomach got really bad. Although I have suffered with digestive issues for years, up to then for a while it was pretty good. Stopping the Byetta after 3 months did not help and eventually it collapsed. A few weeks earlier I had...

    ARCHIVED Milk.

Soy milk is VERY mucous-forming. I can't tolerate soy at all. It is very common for other intolerances to become apparent. It may be a mask effect, but it may also be, as I suspect, down to rogue bacteria adapting from their original food source - gluten-based carbs - to other sugars/carbohydrates. Lactose is a milk sugar. It depends on the type...
  23. This is very, very 'chicken and egg'. What comes first? Interestingly many of you accept that there is a link with Leaky Gut, but where does the Leaky Gut come from? What causes it? If it was down to the gluten, then every person who is 'genetically' Celiac would have it. But the fact that some get no reactions and do not develop the disease...
  24. Oh boy - I have been driving everyone mad with my preaching about bacteria being behind so many of our 'Western' illness and disease and although it is not a nice situation, it is great to actually see evidence that backs up my belief. Whilst Medical Science is finally admitting that just dishing out antibiotics willy-nilly for years was not a good idea...
  25. You may well have certain bacteria in your body that can set up a very rapid reaction to certain things like yeast - it could be Candida, it could be something else, but whatever it is, it's chucking out loads of toxins into your body that are causing the reaction and coming out through your skin. When I first went gluten-free, in amongst my first shop...
