  1. Many people find that they develop intolerances to other foods after dropping gluten (or that they have been there but masked by the gluten intolerance), mostly carbohydrates. As long as there is gut damage the intolerances will remain. Rogue bacteria in the gut feeds on undigested carbs causing inflammation and damage. The poor digestion is caused through...
  2. Oh absolutely I don't believe for one minute that 100% raw is necessarily the best way to go but certainly we undoubtedly need to eat more raw fresh food than a lot of us probably have done throughout our lives - I know that definitely applies to me. I must say the weight loss thing does appeal though, Shay! I am sure it is as much about balance as...
  3. I am reading for the second time Dr Edward Howell's book 'Food Enzymes for Health and Longevity'. It was written back in the 40's and it a bit technical to get the head around, but the information is still current and hopefully has been added to since then. I picked up this link from a site called Living and Raw Foods that carries the original interview...
  4. I, amongst quite a few others who also have problems with foods other than gluten, follow the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, which is a healing diet. It removes the long-chain carbohydrates from the diet that feed rogue and/or out-of-control bacteria in the gut that contributes to the gut damage. Dairy is also removed because most of us have little or no...
  5. Oh yes Ken, and the following article, another by Roy Jamron, makes that link even stronger. https://www.celiac.com/articles/21605/1/Do-...ease/Page1.html The pieces of the puzzle are finally coming together.........whether they will ever work out what to do about it is another matter!
  6. Just picked up this link to some snacky SCD ideas by Carol Frilegh. https://www.celiac.com/blogs/41/Snacks-for-...Diet-Ideas.html I will post them too just in case the link doesn't work
  7. Paul Stocker's Yonana Muffins Dry ingredients:
  8. Thanks Guys - I didn't get any response to this so I went ahead and ordered it anyway last night! I'll tell you what I think of it when it comes - I did buy a used copy but it was still a bit on the expensive side - I've ordered her 'Eat Fat, Lose Fat' book too. At the end of the day my brain works well enough for me to be able to figure out what seems...
  9. Guess what, it did. I have asked if it can be moved back to the Other food intolerances section so that it can sit alongside the main SCD thread. We'll just have to wait and see if that happens.
  10. I have started the SCD recipe thread - I just hope it doesn't get put in with all the other recipes in that section!
  11. Oh yes - I think we are going to have to ask for a dedicated SCD section! Perhaps we could have an 'Other Intolerances thread and have sub-sections for SCD, Lyme, Thyroid, Gut Dysbiosis, and Anything Else!
  12. This thread is an extension to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet thread in the 'Other Food Intolerances and Leaky Gut Syndrome' section. The diet is designed to help those who have not gained relief or recovered their health after removing Gluten from their diet and who have often found that they have developed further food intolerances. Almond Crackers...
  13. I have a recipe from one of my gluten-free books for Almond Crackers which is great. Valda, maybe you could make them but with coconut flour instead. Tell you what, I will start a new thread especially for SCD recipes as we have had quite a few on here - it would be good to get them sorted into one place.
  14. You can drink well-diluted grape juice from a wine glass if you don't want to be left out, and just pretend it's alcoholic - if you're a good enough actress, no-one would ever know! The Apostle Paul said to Timothy, "take a little wine for the sake of your stomach". Who knows, without the leaky gut and taken a teaspoon at a time it might well work!
  15. If you find that you have reached a stage where you can tolerate it, Raman Prasad reckons that we need to have at least 3 salads a week to help things move and detox. Apart from the fact that veg is full of important phytonutrients and good stuff it is very cleansing. This morning I have discovered a new Farm Shop selling organic meat and chickens that...
  16. You will get all sorts of weird things happen for the first 2 - 3 weeks. A lot of that may be due to detox and die-off. Just monitor it but try and hang in there and it will settle down. Honest.
  17. Why do you think it is paranoid? People are becoming very concerned about the long- term effects of different drugs, about GM foods - truth is we haven't a clue what is going on half the time or what effect any of these new technologies are having on us. If they didn't feel that there were aspects to be concerned about, I am sure they would not have...
  18. Hi. I came across this book on Amazon and wondered if anyone has it and what you think of it. I don't think it is particularly gluten-free but does focus on good unprocessed food in information and recipes. It is quite a big tome and fairly expensive, but as I am interested in this subject, particularly as it apparently also features quite a bit on fermented...
  19. I actually think that those little beasties in your gut actually make you crave the stuff they feed on! If Candida is a problem then the added problem with alcohol is that the yeast carb digestion turns into Ethanol - hence the record of people being 'drunk' without actually having had any alcohol. I have not been able to tolerate alcohol for years, except...
  20. Oh and yes, it can 'bend' the brain. One of the most common symptoms of gluten intolerance is 'brain-fog'. Some say it's the gluten, I believe it comes back to bacterial activity and the toxins they release when they are chomping on the gluten and other carbs..........
  21. Since I last posted on this thread back in March I have done a lot of research. The research has led me to the conclusion that a lot of our problems are due to rogue bacteria and gut dysbiosis. When the gut balance gets out of hand certain bacteria can trigger inflammation and leaky gut exacerbated by undigested carbohydrates. The gut cannot process...
  22. So many people don't get better after dropping gluten that it is pretty obvious something else is going on. My personal belief is that rogue bacteria due to gut dysbiosis inflames the gut causing damage and leaky gut, which then triggers intolerances. This disrupts the digestion to the point that we can no longer digest certain foods, particularly carbohydrates...
  23. So you were right Cici, although it is not a new version of BTVC but a reprinted issue of Drs Sidney and Merrill Hass's original work from the 50's. Open Original Shared Link Perhaps the original included some foods that Elaine felt were best avoided due to her subsequent research.
  24. I picked up this interesting snippet so thought I would conduct a poll to see how antibiotic use may have affected those with Celiac/GI issues. If it can apply to Crohn's then it surely can apply to any gut/bowel issue including Celiac.
  25. I think it is as much a case of changing the mind-set as anything. We have been programmed since kids to have certain foods for breakfast, whether it be cereal, or eggs or whatever. We have to try and just view it as another meal. In some cultures they just have what they can find - the Kalahari bushmen often start the day with pureed bitter berries...
