  1. I was sick about 7 years. My stomach noises were getting worse. About a week after I went gluten-free I realized that I had gone through an entire day without "feeling" my stomach. It was amazing. I haven't had any of those problems since (about 3months) unless I inadvertently ate somthing bad.
  2. I also had the same question about hand sanitizer. Bath and Body works emailed me back and gave me a list of scientific names for Wheat, rye barley oats and soy and said to check each individual product. I actually called Purrell- because I was convinced I was glutened by it and they said that there is no gluten in their product, however there is also...
  3. It is frustrating. I was looking for spray leave-in conditioner just yesterday and there was only one that didn't have some kind of wheat protein. I was glad I found one...but it is so annoying!
  4. Trader Joes is great! And they aren't nearly as expensive as Whole Foods. They have been adding some new gluten-free products too- recently a brownie mix and PB cookies. When i first started their list really helped me narrow things down. It definitely sped up the process. I only looked at products on the list...and then only had to read those ingredients...
  5. I just recently finished Three Cups of Tea and Fast Food Nation. Both were great!
  6. I felt it! I was at work...in Chicago. I thought I was crazy...then about an hour later it was on the internet and I realized what it was!
  7. I am currently using the Aussie spray leave-in conditioner. The ingredients themselves looked ok. I was having major scalp issues when using gluten containing products before and haven't had any problems with this one. Maybe I'm lucky with it, although I don't use very much...or maybe it is CYA if the ingredients are ok. They do have some wheat protein in...
  8. I was looking at some of the Neutrogena sunscreens the other day. Some were (SPF 55 and 70) and some were not (SPF 30, SPF 45). I thought that was strange...but reading the fine print it turned out to be true. I would be careful within a brand...just in case there is a difference.
  9. Wow- thanks so much for all that info. I am also heading to Scotland this summer (my brother lives there) but it will be the first time there since on a gluten-free diet. It sounds a little nerve wracking! Thank you for the heads up on labelled gluten-free items. That would probably have been what I stuck with. Thanks again.
  10. If you go to Canada- check there....I know it is produced completely differently there and I'm not sure that it is a malt beverage. When they brought it to the States they had to change the way it was made (and made it malted) because the alcohol percentage was too high to be sold in the US by law.
  11. I called them a few months ago and they said there were only 5 teas that did not have natural flavor and thus could be guaranteed to be gluten free. They were very helpful on the phone. I know that Awake and Refresh are- those are really the only ones I drink so I don't remember the other three- sorry. But I called on a weekend and got to speak to someone...
  12. I also do pasta sauce and soups. Some pasta dishes freeze well too.
  13. I'm originally from Toronto...so a Leafs fan...and now live in Chicago. Alas. I'm not sure who I will cheer for in the playoffs. Maybe Montreal? It sure seems like Detroit is the team to beat!
  14. Hi there- I'm not sure I can really offer too much advice as I have only baked a few loaves. I have done two GFP and one Pamela's. I had the same problem as you did with Pamela's- way too doughy/sticky/undercooked for me (which totally grossed me out). I haven't really found that the GFP had much of a taste at all and the texture was the best so far, both...
  15. Judy, I'm honestly not sure why some react with GI issues to contrast and some do not. Some people do get GI disturbances after contrast...which would probably not be considered an allergy...more of an intolerance. (Not that it makes it any better for the person who is intolerant!) Rashes would be considered more of an allergic reaction and those should...
  16. You should be screened for kidney function (creatinine, BUN) and can calculate GFR. Most people that have very serious reactions have kidney issues. Doing a brain MRI with contrast is routine- unless the patient has a prior allergy to the contrast or bad kidney function. It really limits the exam to do it without. Some things you just don't see without...
  17. I looked today and at my store there are still the old boxes with barley malt extract Hopefully we'll get the new ones soon- I'm excited!
  18. I went to the dermatologist when I first got the rash and he did the biopsy in the office. It's weird that the one you talked to won't do it. Usually it is the dermatologists that do skin biopsies for all kinds of things...hopefully you will find one that will. Mine did two- one of a blister and one of the skin directly beside the blister. Good luck.
  19. Thanks so much for the post! I live near the restaurant on Taylor...so I will definitely look into it. There is nothing with gluten free menu options near me!
  20. Have you tried Cream of Rice? It's not the same as oats...but might work for a hot grain cereal type of thing.
  21. I know the Unilever products will disclose their gluten ingredients. I switched to Suave shampoo. Dove is also good about labeling. I haven't worried about my mascara, but checked all lip balms, lip glosses, face cream, hand cream etc.
  22. Do they sell at other stores...or just at the bakery?
  23. I used to think it was my job making me sick! And then I got diagnosed with celiac disease. So much for thinking my choice of career was making me physically sick!
  24. Oh, and Judy... The shellfish allergy is usually not a problem with CT contrast anymore (the stuff with iodine) but definitely let the tech know and speak with the Radiologist if you are concerned about it. It is routine to give contrast for the brain MRI...barring any allergy or major kidney problems, they would never do one without. You can usually...
  25. MRI contrast uses gadolinium...there is no iodine in it. It is the CT contrast that has iodine in it.
