  1. Trust me, it's nothing to worry about and I'm a big chicken! Had mine 3 months ago. They wheeled me into the room, put an IV in my arm and the next thing I knew the nurse was telling me to open my eyes. My husband was in the waiting room and the doctor talked to me alone and I had no problem comprehending her. I slept a couple hours when I got home and...
  2. I was always told I had a 'nervous stomach' as a child. Remember alot of mouth sores, 10-12 cavities everytime I went to the dentist, always covered in black & blue marks. I had 2 really bad years at 16 and 22 with diarrhea and huge weight loss. At 22 I discovered I was lactose intolerant and that's what I attributed the diarrhea to at that point....
  3. Kingsford charcoal is gluten-free and here is the response I got from them last week. I used it over the weekend with no problem. Enjoy! Thank you for contacting us about Match Light Instant Light Charcoal Sure Fire Grooves. We always appreciate hearing from our consumers. Both the the Kingsford Original and the Kingsford Match Light are made...
  4. I, too, contacted Unilever this week and after their first reponse which seems to be the one that everyone else received about not having a 'list', I reworded my question and here is their response: Thanks so much for writing! It is important to know and understand that Unilever takes a proactive role in managing all food allergy issues. Unilever...
  5. I've had the Almaden Golden Chablis boxed wine a few times and had no problems. Guess it depends on the brand?
  6. I use the Lactaid Fastact....no problem here!

    ARCHIVED Long Island Doc?

Dr. Corina Serer in Massapequa. Seems to be very knowledgeable. Had no GI symptoms, but was anemic and had osteoporosis. She put 2 and 2 together and sent me for endoscopy and bloodwork. Good luck finding a doc you like.
  8. Any book by Jodi Picoult.....I love her!
  9. It's a tablet that you take with your first mouthful of a dairy product. It has the enzymes in it that you need to digest lactose. I take the fast-acting type. I think I've read on other posts here that some people take two at a time. But for me, one has always been enough. Good luck!
  10. Ate dinner at Sambuca's just last week. They were wonderful. There were 2 other gluten-free families there, also. I highly recommend them.
  11. I know I've seen several people post on here that you should go dairy free for the first few months when you start the gluten-free diet. I've been lactose intolerant for 30 years, have always used Lactose free milk and lactaid pills when eating cheese, ice cream, etc. It has always worked for me. I asked my GI Dr. who diagnosed my celiac disease if I...
  12. Vermont Maid says gluten free right on the bottle.
  13. There are several flavors of Yoplait yogurt that are labeled gluten-free. I eat one every day with no problem. And Brown Cow brand is gluten-free also. But could it be possible that you are lactose intolerant?
  14. Trader Joe's Brownie Mix (and throw some chocolate chips in, too)! YUM!
  15. Hi Cruelshoes! Thanks for the info. I'm going to give it a try. The dr. said there are no side effects, so I guess it can't hurt since the oral drugs are no good for me.
  16. Thanks again RiceGuy. You've been such a help to me.
  17. Thanks, Rice Guy. I was hoping you would answer me! I had seen old posts of yours about Vit B12 and didn't have time to search for them. (Shhh I'm at work...don't tell anyone.) Anyway you seemed very knowledgeable about this. I had actually just found the Source Natural website so am ordering from them. They have a 1mg and a 5mg. You feel it's better...
  18. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis 4 months before discovering I have celiac disease. I took Boniva for 3 months and had a bad reaction. At the time the Dr. discovered my celiac disease she also discovered a large hiatal hernia so Boniva, Fosamax, etc. is now forbidden. I am only taking calcium, Vit D and magnesium at this point, but my GP wants me to go...
  19. Hi...I could use some advice. I was diagnosed about 6 weeks ago with celiac disease...no GI symptoms, just anemia and osteoporosis. I had bloodwork done after a month on the gluten-free diet and my Transglutaminase IgA number went from well over 100 to 60. I had a follow-up appt. with my GP and she went over the bloodwork my GI doctor had drawn. My B12 level...
  20. Anyone know of any gluten-free restaurants around the Lincoln Center area? My daughter's college chorus will be singing there next week and she has a few free hours before the performance. I'd love to take her out to dinner. I'm a little nervous though....this will be my first eating out experience since being diagnosed! Wish me luck!

  22. I use Dawn Dish Detergent, Electrasol for my dishwasher, Tide and Clorox for my laundry and Bounce dryer sheets. I called all those companies last week and they all confirmed that they are gluten-free. Windex and Clorox Anywhere Hard Suface are safe, also. Hope this helps.
  23. I use Garnier Fructis shampoo and conditioner. They even have one for color treated hair. I also use their styling products, hairspray and hair color. When I spoke to their rep on the phone, she said ALL their shampoos and conditioners and gluten-free, but you should call about each individual styling product. Since everything I asked about WAS gluten...
  24. I was diagnosed with celiac disease about a month ago. My symptoms were osteoporosis and anemia. I have been lactose intolerant for the last 30 years and have never had a problem with diarrhea as long as I use Lactaid milk or take lactaid pills before eating dairy. I eat a bowl of cereal with Lactaid milk every morning and a yogurt for an afternoon snack...
  25. Progresso Chicken and Wild Rice is gluten free. I know....not quite the same as good old Chicken Noodle. Feel better soon!
