ARCHIVED Anyone Else Cried Over This?
Canadian Karen replied to skoki-mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Funny, just tonight when I was at the supermarket getting lunch stuff for the girls, I was walking past the frozen section and I noticed the frozen cakes and desserts (apple blossoms, etc), and I got this very strong urge to kick and punch the freezer door out of frustration of not being able to treat myself........ Not often do I get those urges, very rarely... -
ARCHIVED Had Bloodwork Done.....
Canadian Karen posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
tt IgA - 13 (normal) So, basically, when I went to see Dr. Moore, he actually mentioned refractory celiac sprue due to my failure to respond to the diet. Now, with these results just in, I basically believe myself that it is not the celiac that is refractory, but the collagenous colitis. For those of you not aware of my situation, my system failed to... -

ARCHIVED Tylenol Sinus
Canadian Karen posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know if this is gluten free? I would like to take some as I have a terrible sinus cold and headache and I have this medication for my oldest daughter but don't know if it is okay for me to take. It is a fairly new product and I can't find it over on delphi. Does anyone know? If not, I will have to tough it out tonight and call the 1-800... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Attack, He's 4
Canadian Karen replied to DylansMom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My heating pad is my saviour when I am glutened.... (or my hot water bottle).... I hug it up against my tummy, sit on my bed, rock gently, hum ever so slightly, breath in through the nose and out through the mouth and that puts me in a happy place! I almost go into a trance..... I have seen up here at Regal (a distribution store up here in Canada... -
ARCHIVED It's My Daughter Eileen's 12th Birthday
Canadian Karen posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well, that sucks!!!!! This is the first year that she has opted to have a sleepover instead of a party. She is having two friends sleep over Saturday night and Terry and I will be taking them (along with Rhiannon and the boys) to the Mandarin for dinner. Well, from what I have seen of the Mandarin website, celiacs certainly aren't welcome there or... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Attack, He's 4
Canadian Karen replied to DylansMom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Jennifer, I hope poor Dylan doesn't have too rough of a time with it....... There is no worse feeling as a mother than that helpless feeling you have when your child is sick and you want nothing more than to just take it away and you be the one sick instead...... I can't really offer any advice since I am the one with celiac and so far my ... -
ARCHIVED Did I Finally Find An Answer?
Canadian Karen replied to Claire415's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree that there is a very strong liklihood that you could be celiac, but I do think you definitely need to get your thyroid checked also. Hypothyroidism could cause some of those symptoms as well (also, hypothryoidism is linked to celiac so there is a very good possibility it is a combination of the two that you have - like me!! ) If getting tested... -

ARCHIVED Now Know What Glutened Feels Like
Canadian Karen replied to Lisa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lisa, I hope you are feeling better real soon, I know for me it not only affects me physically when I get glutened, but also emotionally. I become what I can only describe as a cross between an emotional wreck and an explosive monster!!! The grill had to be contaminated. That's where I would put my money...... Also, as for always being... -
ARCHIVED Now Know What Glutened Feels Like
Canadian Karen replied to Lisa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Lisa! I am glad you "weathered the storm", so to speak....... and Ophelia was kind to you...... I hope the people south of you will recover quickly. Yep, sounds like a gluten attack to me...... Just have to let it run its course...... Hugs. Karen -
ARCHIVED I'm Proud Of My Hubby Too!
Canadian Karen replied to BRCoats's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Cool! It's nice to have a hubby that is so supportive and understands, rather than having someone who just thinks we "overreact". Karen -
Hi Michael, I am sorry to hear about your mom. I would just eat before I went and then just nibble on raw veggies or fresh fruit.... Good Luck! Karen

ARCHIVED Forbidden List For Daycare
Canadian Karen replied to rmhansen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I know it would be a bit pricey to print out since it is rather large, but I would print out the Delphi list and give it to them. That way, they have a "these products/brands are safe" list. I don't know whether your day care caters in or cooks its own food, but I would imagine either way, accomodations could be made. e.g. if they are cooking something... -
ARCHIVED Can Anyone Reccommend...
Canadian Karen replied to sb4480's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Pantene products. Both shampoo and conditioner. I used to not worry about my shampoos, lotions, etc. Mistake. First, when you are shampooing or conditioning your hair, how many times does the water flow down your face and possibly into your mouth? Second, I used to use Aveeno. But the Aveeno I used had oatmeal in it. Now, when I put my... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Called After Hours
Canadian Karen replied to Lisa's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow Lisa, Sounds like you have a really dedicated doctor there. He's definitely a keeper! Well, it sounds like everything is under control except for the B12. The shots should take care of that though..... I really happy you got such great news...... Now make sure you take cover before Hurricane Ophelia hits!!!! Hugs. Karen -
ARCHIVED My Sister Is Having Testing Today
Canadian Karen posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
She is having both done today. Hopefully, we will finally find out some answers for her. When she saw my gastro three weeks ago (the first gastro, not the one I go to now....) I kind of told her what I expected would happen. He would take the bloodwork, then do biopsy. Well, when she went in to see him, he said he wasn't going to bother doing the bloodwork... -

ARCHIVED Cake Is Too Dry
Canadian Karen replied to Kenster61's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The cakes that I make the recipe calls for either margarine or oil. I find that when I use oil, it makes it much more moist...... Which do you use? Karen -
ARCHIVED Stupid Walmart!
Canadian Karen replied to 2Boys4Me's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know, I was hoping it would be Canadian Walmarts also. I wasn't really expecting it to be though. The U.S. labelling laws now have more teeth and therefore easier to enforce, implement, whereas in Canada, we haven't gotten that far yet....... unfortunately........ Karen -
