  1. Beer is definitely a no-no, unless it is a special gluten-free make of beer..... I find Kraft dressing and bbq sauces are best and safest for me. I know they list gluten quite clearly on their labels and I completely trust Kraft. I even use their peanut butter..... Karen
  2. June is when I started taking this disease as seriously as I should have from the beginning..... It was when the dr. started talking to me about refractory, it kind of woke me out of my indifference and into the reality that this stuff could be really serious..... That's when I started searching the internet for everything I could get my hands on and...
  3. I have the exact same thing also.... around my nose and in the centre of my forehead just above my eyebrows... Also, this time of year, I also get extremely dry scalp that drives me bananas.... Haven't found anything to relieve it yet.... If anyone finds a solution, let me know!!!! Karen
  4. Well, it's kind of a long story, but in a nutshell: I was first diagnosed with celiac disease and endometriosis in my early 20's. After 1 1/2 years on the gluten-free diet with no change or improvement, that when the "diagnosis roller coaster" started. It then was "Okay, we think you have Crohns' disease.... then is was IBS......." So off the gluten...
  5. Congratulations on celebrating the day your life changed for the better!!! I also learned my diagnosis during the Christmas holidays (many years ago!!!) It was a message on my answering machine on Christmas Eve from the dr. giving me the diagnosis of celiac disease..... Happy New Year! Karen
  6. Happy New Year Everyone!!! My hope is that 2005 will bring us a celiac cure. My hope is that the medical establishment will wake up and really start to understand and detect this disease in the millions of people who currently are suffering from it and don't know what it is they have..... My hope is that the world will turn a corner and really start...
  7. Hi! I also am not really a fan of chat sites..... but I know of one at www.delphiforums.com Click on "Health and Wellness" on the left hand side. The celiac website is at the top of the list in this section..... They have a chat section in there, I don't know what it is like though..... Have a great day! Karen
  8. I also have had low blood pressure for as long as I can remember.... I have just learned to live with it. I just figure it is all part of the whole picture (celiac disease, collagenous colitis, anemia, hypothyroidism, etc. etc....) I also find that I have palpitations quite often, and "skipped beats".... I figured this also was part of low blood pressure...
  9. Here is one of the articles about cigarette smoking and celiac: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-02104361437.c0 Not that I in any way advocate starting smoking in order to delay celiac for those pre-disposed to it.... I just thought it was interesting..... I started smoking at 15. My celiac symptoms started in my early 20's. So I certainly...
  10. I think the only possibility of that would be the glue that holds the filter together... I remember reading some articles a few years ago that stated that smoking actually delayed the onset of celiac....... Have a great day! Karen
  11. Hi! I saw your post a few days ago, but only today had a few minutes of relative peace and quiet to get onto the computer to reply. (I have four kids, 11 yr old girl, 6 yr old girl and 3 yr old twin boys....) Needless to say, Christmas is absolute madness at our house!!!! I looked back and found the original thread about when I was told I might...
  12. I always to into www.glutenfreedrugs.com They have a very good list. Karen
  13. Hi Medaka! I have been taking the hemp hearts for about 1 1/2 weeks now. I can say that my sleep patterns have improved greatly and I find that I have more energy during the day. The afternoon "fog" doesn't descend on my brain as prominently as it did before.... you know, that feeling of utter exhaustion that you can just drop right where you are standing...
  14. I have just tried these for the first time, and they are delicious!!!! They taste exactly like my favourite cereal when I was a kid, Capt'n Krunch. I sprinkled my hemp seeds on top of them also, and made them even more delicious!!! Have a great day! Karen
  15. I find the following list the most comprehensive and always kept current: Open Original Shared Link It is even broken down into categories for easy reference..... Have a great day! Karen
  16. Hi! I avoid popcorn at all costs. My problem is not with bloating/gas when I eat popcorn, but I have an incredibly difficult time digesting it. The hard pieces of the kernal (particularly the opened kernels, you know the ones that have the shape of ladybug wings??) really hurt my intestines going through.... I can feel them "grinding" their way down...
  17. What a wonderful sentiment, Deb, and I agree wholeheartedly!!! I have come to depend on this site for not only the knowledge of all the other members, but also the support given by all when any of us need it..... I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!! Have a great day! Karen
  18. Hi Alicia, Have you noticed a difference in your energy levels with the hemp seeds? Thanks! Karen
  19. I found this to be quite interesting.... Here's the link: Open Original Shared Link Also, can't help but see the irony in Dr. Fine's lab being in Dallas.... Karen
  20. Hi Medaka, I found them at a health food store in a shopping mall. Since I have been looking into them, I have noticed them more. I even saw them in the specialty section of one of our major supermarkets, Loblaws...... Results I have found so far: I am sleeping much better at night. I seem to be able to get into a really good deep sleep and I...
  21. Gas X is definitely NOT gluten free. I also made the same mistake, I used to chew them like candy because my gas was so bad.... When we tried to figure out where I was continuing to get gluten from, that's when we discovered Gas-X was NOT gluten free. I even called the manufacturer, and they said that for sure their chewables were not gluten free,...
  22. Hi! I noticed that you were incorrectly diagnosed with endometriosis. I also was diagnosed with endometriosis in my early 20's, and have had two laparoscopies. I was told I would have a 50/50 chance of every being able to conceive a child. I am now 42, and have four children, including twins!!!! Don't listen to everything the dr. tells you!! I have...
  23. Hi McDougall!! That sounds wonderful that you have undergone such a change in such a short period of time. You can be pretty guaranteed that you have found the source of your problems. It never ceases to amaze me how doctors continue to have blinders on when it comes to celiac disease. I wish they would wake up and make the connection to celiac when...
  24. Hi! I started them two days ago..... I will post how they affect me. I am going to give it about a week before I post any results..... Karen
  25. Jessica, You and I are on the same wave length. The best advice I could give is buy the SOFTEST toilet paper you can find!!! You will thank yourself later!! Karen
