Canadian Karen replied to HappyCat22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Gillian502: Sounds like you and I are in the same boat!! The dr. did mention that collagenous colitis (which is the same thing as microscopic colitis), could be the cause of the constant diarrhea. If the biopsies taken show the collagenous colitis, he said the first treatment would be very high doses of bismuth (8 tablets a day for 8 weeks) and... -
Hi Charlotte, I just also wanted to mention that I get the feeling that you think that your intestines are so far damaged that they are beyond repair, so why bother now..... I have read many posts here from people who have literally been at death's door before their celiac was even discovered, and once going gluten-free, their recovery was amazing....

Canadian Karen posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am taking two heaps of psyllium seed husk and also two tablets of Pro Diem per day - what I am not sure about is what is the best way to take these for maximum "binding" effect? Should I take them before meals or after meals? And also, do you take your acidophillus before or after meals? Thanks, guys! Karen -

Canadian Karen replied to armarti2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Joanna..... I would love for that to be the case (no such thing as refractory, that is....) as it would life a huge weight off my shoulders..... I think I will contact the Mayo (do they answer questions from someone outside the U.S., i.e. Canada?) I will wait though until after the colonoscopy and biopsies give us more answers that we are looking... -

Thanks, I sure am not looking forward to it!!!! I hope they give me that medication everyone is talking about that makes you forget the whole thing!!! Canadian Karen replied to HappyCat22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When I went to the dr. this week, I found out my antibodies are still sky high (over 100) despite being gluten-free for 1 1/2 years (with some inadvertent slips....) Canadian Karen replied to HappyCat22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you checked EVERYTHING???? I thought I did, but after some serious sleuthing, I discovered several things that were still contaminating me.... 1) I was using the family toaster, not my own, therefore wheat crumbs were getting onto my gluten-free bread.... 2) I was drinking Clamato Juice (I loved Bloody Caesars, a Canadian drink), and ... -

Canadian Karen replied to celiac3270's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi celiac3270, I just thought of something else..... Have they looked at your gall bladder for the source of your problems? I have a friend who went through very much the same thing with the vomiting and the acid, etc. and her gall bladder had to be removed. She feel 10 times better after the surgery..... Just a thought....... Hugs. Karen -
ARCHIVED Fractures And Celiac
Canadian Karen replied to cagoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The dr. should do a bone density test on her because with the years of malabsorption that celiacs have to deal with and wreak havoc on our bones..... We have a much higher risk of osteoporosis due to the malabsorption of calcium... I hope she is feeling better soon..... Karen -

Oh celiac3270, I am so sorry you had to go through that!! Obviously, that person didn't know who she was dealing with!!
