  1. Better double check on that McDougall..... I have heard many celiacs use xanthan (sp?) gum for baking, etc. I am pretty sure it is gluten free..... I, of course, have never used it since baking is definitely NOT one of my strong points!!! LOL! Perhaps there are only certain brands celiacs can use? Anyone else? Have a great day! Karen
  2. Hi Deb, Don't know too much about it but I do know that polyps are quite common. I have had a few removed myself with my first colonoscopy. My supervisor at work, who had a colonoscopy a few months ago, had several removed. And she doesn't even have any bowel problems, this was just a "preventative maintenance" kinda colonoscopy..... Keep us updated...
  3. This morning, my joint pain has returned with a vengeance.... Every once in a while it comes back, although I can't figure out any particular reason why, it's not like I was recently glutened or anything..... My right shoulder, left hip and just killing me - I am limping around here like an 80 year old..... Ah, the joys of celiac..... Karen
  4. Hi McDougall, Do you like nuts? Nuts are an excellent source of protein. The only problem with nuts is some celiacs have difficulty digesting them. I'm glad things have improved a bit more for you today! I know what you mean about your Rum & Coke. See, my favourite drink used to be a Bloody Caesar, with vodka, clamato juice, worchstesire...
  5. One of my favourite gluten free snacks comes from Australia..... Snakatas Crackers, they come in 4 different flavours and they are delicious!!! In fact, I can't keep my kids away from them!! (I am the only one celiac). I am so glad to whichever company up here in Canada imports them.... Karen
  6. Hi McDougall! That's wonderful! It sounds like you are on the right track..... I hope each day you see more and more improvement.... Have a great day! Karen
  7. Here, try this one. It has is broken down into different categories that you can print separately.. Open Original Shared Link Karen
  8. Also, here is another one: Open Original Shared Link The one thing that you also have to keep in mind, is that we always have to check and double check the gluten-free status of things. Unfortunately, what is gluten-free one month, may not be the next month. I understand that the laws have recently changed in the U.S. that will greatly assist you...
  9. Oops, tried to post and my connection cut, so I don't know whether this will be posted twice or not....... If you haven't already found this list in your google searches, I find this one to be quite extensive..... www.glutenfreedrugs.com It states that Benedryl Elixir is gluten-free. Karen
  10. Hi celiac3270: I have taken that medication but for a whole different reason. When I had my twin boys, they were nine weeks premature and were in the special care unit at hospital for almost 1 month. They were too small to breastfeed, they were fed through a tube in the nose. I was pumping breastmilk for them. Unfortunately, I have never been very...
  11. Hi McDougall. I am glad that you found this forum as there are many knowledgeable and helpful people here who are very supportive. From what I have read in your post, you certainly fit the bill of a celiac. Just make sure that you are very careful in whatever you ingest into your body. There are so many hidden sources of gluten that if you continue...
  12. Hi! Welcome to the forum, we always try to help whenever possible.... My first thought reading your post was if you have had your thyroid checked.. Regarding your anxiety and panic attacks, I was wondering if you have a racing heart and palpitations when you have these. If so, I would check out Mitral Valve Prolapse, you may find the symptoms very...
  13. Hi Susan, Definitely the cabbage. My celiac specialist specifically told me to stay away from cabbage, as it produces gas and abdominal pain..... Karen
  14. When I first read this thread's title, celiac3270, of course, you came to mind immediately. Nausea thankfully has not been one of my symptoms. But I want to caution you to make sure that if you are continuing to take nausea medication, make sure you check on its gluten free status. There are quite a lot over the counter medications that are NOT gluten...
  15. Hi celiac3270, When I started reading about you taking the homeopathic route, I was so hoping that this would be an avenue that would bring you some relief, but alas, it wasn't so. I am sorry to hear that it is not alleviating your symptoms. Did he say how long it would take for it to "kick in" and start working? I wonder if your system should have...
  16. Hi celiac3270! One thing Irish Catholics (and especially Newfie ones) know how to do, is multiply!!! LOL! Including me, with four kids (my two girls and my twin boys..) Multiple births run in my family quite a lot, a lot of twins and triplets. A month before my twin boys were born, one of my cousins had triplet girls.... I always joke that most of...
  17. LOL! Monica! That's a good one that I have to use in a restaurant!!! I can actually envision the look on the waitress's face when she clues into just what you mean!!! That is enough to make her extra careful, isn't it? Karen
  18. Hi! I also belong to a huge Irish, Catholic, Newfie family. I have 102 first cousins!!! On my dad's side: Irish, Irish On my mom's side: Irish, French Karen
  19. I guess it depends on where you live.... I know when I discussed this with my doctor when they found collagenous colitis, he said that the diagnosis of collagenous colitis, celiac disease, along with hypothyroidism and the two different medications to treat my depression, would qualify me for disability, but the diagnosis of celiac disease alone would not...
  20. Hi celiac3270! It's nice to hear from you! I know you are extremely busy now that school has started again and considering how academically advanced you are for your age, it doesn't surprise me that you throw yourself 100% into your schoolwork.... How have you been feeling? I hope your stomach is healing more and more each day.... We sold the house...
  21. Here is another one: Open Original Shared Link Karen
  22. Here is a link regarding the hemp hearts.... Open Original Shared Link Hemp oil might be easier to find though..... I believe that has the same benefits.... Still looking into it though.... Have a great day! Karen
  23. Hi Medaka, I am glad you got the colonoscopy over with. I was a bit sore for a few days afterwards also. The dr. said that I would be since he took numerous biopsies from various areas. Do you know if your doctor is checking for collagenous colitis? That's what they found I have and that's why my diarrhea continued even though I was thoroughly gluten...
  24. It was an excellent story about Celiac Disease and very informative.... Here is a link: Open Original Shared Link Karen
