  1. I had checked with the manufacturer for budesonide. Apparently, budesonide is gluten free in Canada but not in the U.S....... What confuses me is I don't feel "unwell", at least the way that I used to. Sure, my joints are still really bothering me, but all the gastro symptoms (bloating, abdominal pain, etc. etc.) is gone. The diarrhea is only about...
  2. How much does the testing cost? And is it available to Canadians? Thanks! Karen
  3. Hi Guys, Today I had the follow up with Dr. Moore regarding the budesonide treatment. Here's the scoop: The budesonide is helping with, although not taking away totally, the diarrhea. What really concerns him is that my ttg levels are still over 100.... HOW??? I don't understand it..... Next course: Prednisone. Because of two possibilities...
  4. I talked the manager of our local supermarket to start a gluten free merchandise section in his store. I have kept an "unofficial" eye on the merchandise and I can say for sure that it is not only me buying the merchandise. Also, I printed out the article on this site about how retailers need to catch up on the gluten free market that is increasingly growing...

  7. My sister called me to say she had a booklet from the LCBO and in it, they are advertising a gluten-free beer for celiacs..... Open Original Shared Link enter in the product code 682880. Cool! We are getting more and more mainstream!! Karen

  9. Thanks! Kaiti!!! You so rock!!!!! Hope you had a great Easter...... Karen
  10. After months of nagging my sister to get tested, she finally agreed and told me yesterday her appointment is for tomorrow. She said when she was talking to the secretary, and told her that one of the things her appt. was for was a celiac test, the secretary said she wasn't sure what that was and she didn't think the dr. would know either..... Can anyone...
  11. Hi Buluga, I knew there was a previous thread about this, finally found it!!!! Open Original Shared Link Hope it helps! Karen
  12. Also, forgot to mention that I am in the unfortunate predicament of not feeling comfortable taking the low gluten or OR the wine. You see, I have lived through SARS first hand, and unfortunately it has left its scars. My grandmother had a massive heart attack three days before the SARS outbreak. She was taken to Grace Hospital (the location that the...
  13. Dear KVOGT: As a past and present, practicing Catholic, born Catholic, raised Catholic, married Catholic, all my children Catholic, husband teaches in a Catholic school, (does that pass as a "practicing Catholic"?) I can honestly say to you that in all honesty, I most likely will not be a "future" Catholic. My children will continue in the Catholic faith...
  14. Hi, Although I don't have this as a particular symptom, I have read other posts regarding this. Alot of celiacs apparently also have something called Sjogren's Syndrome. If you google it up, you might find it interesting..... Have a great day! Karen
  15. Are you using rapid rise yeast? Karen
  16. Hi Gabrielle: Boy, have I been there!!! I was diagnosed with both endometriosis and celiac disease in my early 20's. The celiac diagnosis was changed back and forth a few times between celiac, Crohn's, IBS, etc. (the usual bowel run arounds). When I was diagnosed with endometriosis, I was told at the time I had a 50/50 chance of ever conceiving...
  17. I know I have just recently discovered how to use them also and I am having a blast!! By the way, I think after Red345, people have become accustomed to longs posts!! Karen
  18. Maybe it would be useful as a kind of "morning after" pill for accidents to minimize the effects of a gluten slip up.... that would be quite useful..... Karen
  19. That is an EXCELLENT point celiac3270..... I never thought of that...... Maybe the only way that wouldn't happen is if the pill doesn't come out on the market for 10 - 15 years, and by that time, proper labelling will be so widespread and mainstream that the manufacturers won't bother returning to the "old ways"... Karen
  20. My favourite snack crackers are Snakatas. They are absolutely delicious! They come in four flavours: Smoked barbeque Sour cream and chives Cheese supreme Sea Salt and Vinegar I purchase them at a bargain shop here in Canada. They are from Australia. They say "gluten free" right on the side of the box. Here's a link: www.sakata...

  23. Hi PW, I have struggled with mild to moderate depression for many years. I have been on anti-depressants for about 10 years now. I have absolutely no qualms about taking them. The way I look at it, my body doesn't produce enough seratonin which requires me to take medication to correct that, the EXACT same way that I take thyroid medication because...
  24. Hi Meghan, Welcome to the board! We have all travelled down the road you are on right now and we are all here to answer any questions you have, and you will have many. It may seem overwhelming at the beginning, but once you start to reap the rewards of this diet, you will be determined even more to maintain a gluten-free diet. Just remember...
  25. Laura, It sounds like your son is looking at your diet as being some kind of an "Atkins Diet" fad that you are going through. It sounds like he doesn't know or refuses to believe the seriousness of the situation and that celiac is not "just an allergy" but an auto-immune disease. What I think you should do is print off an article about refractory celiac...
