  1. Hi Carrie, I ate there for my anniversary and it was very good, and I had no problems afterwards..... The selection is quite good..... I'm still on cloud 9 though about this Swiss Chalet thing!!!!! Yeah!
  2. Yippeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! Guess what I had for supper last night......... MMMMMMM I was in heaven..... It was absolutely delicious - I savoured every drop!!!!! As soon as I found out about Swiss Chalet being gluten-free, I called hubby at work and gave him strict instructions to pick it up on his way home!!!! Doing the happy dance here.......
  3. Oh celiac3270, I am soooo happy for you!! That is amazing news!!! You must be on Cloud 9....... finally an answer...... I will be keeping you in my prayers for the "surgery" and pray that you will finally have some relief!!!! I can almost feel your joy over the computer!!! Have a wonderful day!
  4. Oh wow, Smith!! Are you serious? Swiss Chalet chicken and dipping sauce is gluten-free? I always thought the dipping sauce had wheat/gluten in it, like a gravy..... You mean I can have Swiss Chalet???? Yummmm!!!! I assumed also their french fries were contaminated since they cook other stuff in the oil, but the baked potatoe is okay? You just made...
  5. I'm glad it worked out for you. I haven't had a chance to make my second attempt at my bread yet. The kids have kept me hopping and I had my dr's appt. I am trying again tomorrow. I have to remember to take the yeast and the egg out to get them at room temperature..... I also am looking forward to home baked bread. I am especially looking forward...
  6. Hi. Another possibility, although it is rare, is collagenous colitis (also called microscopic colitis). I also had diarrhea for years that didn't respond to a gluten-free diet and the dr's starting talking about refractory celiac. I was referred to a professor who specializes in celiac and he did a colonoscopy and took several biopsies. He sent them...
  7. Hi Himslim, I just bought one last week at Walmart. It is a new one on the market - a "Black & Decker Horizontal Automatic Breadmaker" B2000. It makes a 2 lb. loaf in 70 minutes. It is one that you just put everything in and walk away. It was $119.00 at Walmart (in Toronto). My first loaf did not turn out very well but that was entirely my fault...
  8. If anyone is planning on visiting Toronto, here is a restaurant to go to, they also have numerous locations throughout the city..... Open Original Shared Link Have a great day!
  9. I just checked my container of KoolAid crystals and it was not listed as an ingredient. I'm in Canada. Is there a difference in the KoolAids between U.S. and Canada?
  10. It's amazing how the same company can manufacture the same drug but put different fillers in it depending on the country, eh? I wonder if there is any way you can get your hands on the Canadian version instead..... I remember reading a story a few months ago about a bus load of seniors taking a trip up to Windsor to get their prescriptions filled. Maybe...
  11. Hi! I just talked to the company and they said their budesonide is both gluten and lactose free..... Maybe the Canadian version is gluten-free, but not the U.S version? Have a great day! Karen
  12. Hi! I just checked with Shoppers Drug Mart (the pharmacy I get my prescriptions from) and I got the name of the manufacturer. The manufacturer is Astrazeneca Canada Inc. and their customer service number is 1-800-668-6000. I just called them but their business hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and it is now 5:10 p.m... I will try again tomorrow. I...
  13. It is nothing short of a miracle!!! I started the budesonide just under one week ago, and this morning is the first "normal" bm I have had in over a decade... Also, I have had no gluten reactions to this drug, so I believe it to be gluten free. I absolutely, positively, cannot believe after suffering with permanent diarrhea for a decade that I found...
  14. Here is another suggestion for you..... If you go into www.delphiforums.com then click on "Health & Wellness" on the left hand side, the very first forum that comes up is the Celiac website. There is a wonderful lady in that forum called Mirielle, she has an incredible amount of recipes posted on this site. If you don't have a printer to print them...
  15. I use Stevia with no problems. I actually really enjoy the taste...... I even like it better than sugar.
  16. Hurray!!!! Figured it out!!! There is hope for me yet..... lol.....
  17. I am from the Toronto region but am still trying to figure out how to get my profile info stuff to come at the end of my posts..... In case you haven't figured it out yet, I am completely "message board illiterate"...... lol! Karen
  18. I use all Pantene hair products which I know is gluten-free. I still have the hair and scalp problems though..... Karen
  19. I have both hair loss and scalp problems. The hair loss I know is at least partially attributed to my hypothyroidism, but I am also sure it is from vitamin deficiencies also. I have found that the shorter I keep my hair, the less hair that falls out. Karen
  20. There is still one more link that is a really detailed study of the link between endometriosis and celiac disease but I am still searching for that one. I can't remember where I saw it.... Here are a few more links regarding this though: Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link I am still going to look for the really good link though...
  21. I went back to the GI specialist at St. Mike's today. I discussed with him the controversy as to whether budesonide is gluten-free or not. He seemed to be certain that it was gluten-free. I guess I will trust him - I will find out soon enough whether it contains gluten as I will have a rather quick reaction if it does - starting with the burning of my...
  22. Oops, hit something by mistake.... Anyway, now there is nothing out here. I talked to the manager at A & P out here and he is very accomodating. He asked me to bring in the wrapper of the breads that I use and he will contact the company to get a list of things we can order. He even said that he is going to make about a 4 foot section in the store...
  23. Hi Michael, Here are some of my answers, and I apologize if some of it sounds gross..... What obstacles do people with Celiac disease face? i.e. at work, at home, traveling etc. At work, I have been pretty lucky, all my co-workers were really supportive. I printed out an article on celiac and distributed it to them so they had some knowledge...
  24. Hi celiac3270: Just another example of celiac slowly but surely becoming more mainstream..... Have a great day! Karen
  25. Hi! I also bought this Reader's Digest magazine when the front stated an article about "Diseases Doctors Often Overlook". The Celiac Disease portion of the article tells about a woman called Connie Cyr of Saskatchewan. Is it the same article as the one in the US? Karen
