ARCHIVED Prednisone As Treatment?
Canadian Karen replied to pturse's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
First off, you sound so much like me..... I was in your shoes not too long ago, thinking for sure that I had refractory celiac disease, as my system was just not responding to the gluten-free diet. Even when I was gluten-free, lactose free, sugar free, caffeine free, the diarrhea just continued to be uncontrollable.... It has literally been years since... -
ARCHIVED Hemp Hearts
Canadian Karen replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Deb, I'm doing fine, although the medication for the collagenous colitis is not working in any way, but I still have to finish the full 8 weeks. I think the next stage is budesonide (sp?)..... I have just sold my house and bought another, so it has been hectic for the last few weeks.... We bought outside of the city a house that is the same size... -
ARCHIVED Hemp Hearts
Canadian Karen posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi! My sister has a friend who is a naturopath and she suggested I use hemp hearts. Here is a website about it. It sounds really interesting... Also, for those with energy problems (Medaka, me, etc.), this sounds like it could really help.... Open Original Shared Link Let me know what you guys think...... Thanks! Karen -
I also get them, and even though I use Pantene, which is gluten-free, I find they don't really go away..... It also doesn't have anything to do with the time of year, either, they are pretty much there year round.... I especially get them most often by the temples and up by the forehead.... Karen

ARCHIVED Today Is My Appt.
Canadian Karen replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, Well, here's the scoop: He has decided to start treatment with the least toxic, working our way upward to the most toxic. He has started me on 2 tablets of Pepto-Bismol four times a day for 8 weeks. If that doesn't work, he will start me on Bodesonide (a mild steriod) which would be 3 times a day. If that doesn't work, then we go with the... -

He was the cutest thing I have ever seen (and still is....) The breeder called him Lump because he was the biggest of the litter and now he is a 2 yr old "horse"!! This dog is huge!! ARCHIVED Results Are In.....
Canadian Karen replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks celiac3270! Actually, I feel pretty positive about being able to deal with this! One of the articles I read is that the people who do best in controlling collagenous colitis are the ones who keep a postivie attitude.... Blows me away that only 2 out of 100,000 people get this, and I have to be one of them!!!!! It really does make a lot of... -

Hi Gillian and Medaka, Thanks for the support and Gillian, it is good to know someone else is here who has this - from what I have found so far, apparently it is only 2 out of 100,000 people who get this!!! I don't know what treatment plan he will start me off on, from what I have read, there are several possibilities..... Medaka, at your next dr... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed
Canadian Karen replied to linda8's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Linda, The separate toaster for gluten free bread is an ABSOLUTE MUST!!!! I learned that the hard way..... Also, make sure you have separate pots and pans for gluten free food if the surface is porous - teflon holds in the gluten and transfers it to the gluten-free food being cooked in it..... I have learned a very valuable lesson - I didn't... -
ARCHIVED Wish Me Luck?
Canadian Karen replied to jaycee30's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good Luck from Canada! I can remember the last time I had that done, they didn't even use drugs, they just sprayed my throat with something that made it numb. The gagging feeling only lasted a few seconds, then you can relax.... I imagine that now that they give drugs, it would make it that much more tolerable.... Good Luck! I will be thinking of...
