  1. ok, if you can see my pic it shows my toddler's growth from birth to 24 mo. (the chart would only let me put up to 34 lb but he is 36 lb now and is actually 25 mo. now) so anyway, you can see why I am excited... he was off the charts before and now he is off the charts again! and the dr's didn't believe that there was a problem when he stopped growing! its...
  2. are any of these inexpensive? we just got 2 cats from a shelter for the kids but my husband doesn't want to give them an expensive food he's willing to go mid range cause the cheaper brands aren't healthy at all but if anyone knows of a reasonably priced cat food that is gluten-free let me know!
  3. I've actually thought about it alot over the last year or so... I talked to my husband about donating to food banks and stuff but he really likes to give to people in a more personal way so it sets an example for the kids so that they can see that you are helping real people and builds relationships in the process. I'm glad we didn't do the food bank thing...
  4. I took my son off of gluten at 17mo. old (he had only gained 2 pounds since he was 4 months old and was still in the same size clothing (the docs didn't have a problem with it since that size was a size 18mo...) anyway, after I took him off of gluten he started growing about a pound a month and he is 22 mo. now and in a size 3 clothes and size 8 shoes (from...
  5. I've given them to my son too and I ALWAYS know when he's had gluten cause he totally falls apart over NOTHING... he's never reacted to the fries. I mistakenly let him have some grilled chicken once and he got glutened by that (it contains "wheat gluten") and I just figured it was chicken without breading so I gave him some. but once again no reaction to...
  6. there are a few things that I have against vaccines 1 being that we are bombarding a tiny child with numerous foreign things all at once and 2 being that when a virus normally gets into your body it has to go through so many parts of your immune system BEFORE it gets into your blood stream (which is where serious problems from the virus can occur) when...
  7. a lot of people don't get the "classic" symptoms. it can affect you in a lot of different ways. maybe you should get a blood test for the celiac panel
  8. hi, I don't have all the answers but I do know that it is genetic so you or your husband would have passed it on. but that doesn't mean that you have the disease. it is a gene that can be triggered at any point in your life

    ARCHIVED On A Budget

corn tortillas have become our new "bread" the kids love them as quesadillas with melted cheese between 2 or sometimes as a hotdog bun. they also love "sweet quesadillas" made with peanut butter and honey or jam. corn chips are also another good inexpensive snack. you can have them with cheese dip, 7 layer dip or just salsa.
  11. i just had a scan done last month and it showed osteopenia in my hips (I'm 30 and I've lost 2 inches of height in the last few years) not sure about which supplements are gluten-free I haven't had any problems with the ones I got at sams club (I got the Vitamin D with calcium)
  12. you can make your own oven fries by cutting potatoes into strips and shaking them in a baggy with some salt and garlic powder or italian seasoning then squirt some oil in the bag and shake again dump it on a baking tray and bake at about 350-400 for 30 min. steak or chicken breast is good. salads, fruits, veggies, rice dishes I made some yummy chicken satay...
  13. hi, finally getting the doctors to agree to test my kids for celiac disease, the problem is 2 of them have been gluten-free for about 2 mo. and one has been Gluten-light for about 1 1/2 mo. and gluten-free for about 1 1/2 weeks. Ped said that the tests should still be accurate even after that time but I'm not buying it. how long would I need to have them...
  14. this is my son's growth chart. he's been gluten-free for 2 months now and gained the same amount of weight in that time that he had gained in the 12 mo. before that. the doctors thought I was crazy to be worried about it but if this isn't a positive response to the diet I don't know what is!
  15. hi, I agree about the growth spurt, kids usually get a bit on the chubby side right before they shoot up. you could look at his feet to see if they have gotten larger. I've heard that the feet grow first then the lefts then the hands then the arms. so if his shoes are getting tight you can bet he will get taller. my son is 18 1/2 mo. and had only gained...
  16. I'm the same way! my husband goes nuts with all the blankets cause he is normally hot and then when he is at his coolest around 4 am there I am throwing all the blankets off! crazy! at least the night sweats seem to have gone away for the most part when I'm gluten-free!!
  17. husband and I are both O+ not sure what the kids are
  18. vegetable source as in plant not animal... I have never seen anything labeled "natural flavors, grain source"
  19. here is a flour mix recipe that I found on betterbatter.org it is their basic recipe but they say they add more xanthan gum. I'm quoting my text with updated pricing (pricing for both figures accurate as of April 1, based on commodity pricing) here. I've highlighted where it becomes morecost effective to order than to make flour.: 4 c rice flour ...
  20. wow that is so thoughtful! even just the favor is going out of her way but to make sure there is cake for her is amazing! It's good to know there are people like that out there
  21. well, I haven't personally read any of these but this is what amazon came up with when I did a search for "fibromyalgia and gluten" its a pretty long list and its probably not all relevent to your friends friend but I hope it helps! maybe some of the others on the forum could recommend some. or maybe some of them have actually read one or more of these books...
  22. hi, I was just thinking about all the issues in my family and how many people probably have/had celiac disease that was never diagnosed. my grandma on my dad's side died before I was born... I think she only like 50 and she died of stomach cancer and it had also spread to her liver and some other organs as well... she was also addicted to food, my dad said...
  23. one thing that my kids seem to love and I'm not sure why (its not bad but not something I get excited over!) is corn tortilla sandwiches. I spread peanutbutter and either jam or honey on 2 soft corn totillas and put them together as a sandwich then cut it into quarters. my 4 year old calls them "sweet good Ideas" (good ideas is his term for quesadillas) ...
  24. before getting a gastric bypass I would be very certain you know of the side effects. if you are already suffering from malnutrition/malnurishment I would advise against it. I believe the way it works is they "bypass" part of your intestines so that your food doesn't get absorbed... that way you can eat more and not have to worry about it. it is better to...
  25. wanting to chew on ice is supposed to be a symptom of iron deficiency
