Rest drink lots of water....some say slippery elm bark tablets help. Aloe. Marshmallow.
You can get certified gluten-free oats. Bob's has some and others. But some Celiacs react to the protein in oats like gluten. So you would have to heal up and try the gluten-free oats to see.

Macadamia nut oil is good too. I think med-high heat.
I use grapeseed oil now and again. It has way more Omega 6 than olive oil, so I dont use it too much to maintain fatty acid balance in my diet.

Welcome to the boards Tracey. I hope you feel better soon. It is good to vent and thank goodness they found the Celiac!! Now you can finally start healing. No, you cannot get your thyroid back and you will need meds for life for it. But hopefully with enough time, you heal to a point to greatly reduce and even eliminate those other pills.
Please ask if you have ANY questions. There are lots of yummy gluten-free foods. I went for a real challenge and went all the way GRAIN FREE. And I eat very very well.
I make yummy curries in my crock pot. Baked winter squashes with cinnamon and honey. I make cakes, bread, crackers and cookies with almond flour that are sooooo good. I eat beef, chicken, turkey, gluten-free sausage, ALL seafood including fish, eggs....all veggies (steamed, roasted, raw), all fruits (raw, cooked with the almond flour to make cobblers yum!!), quiche with almond flour crusts.....soups.....meatballs with spaghetti squash.....pancakes with almond flour......smoothies.......and the list goes on.
I dont do nightshades either: tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, eggplant.
And I eat VERY WELL!!!
-
And dont forget the "addictive" properties of gluten. It's metabolites fit nicely into our opiate receptors in our brains. Eat a ton of it and there will be a price to pay. You will want more even though it kills you. Just like I here talking.....If I already got a bread crumb....might as well eat a croissant. That is just your addictive brain talking there.
Next thing you know, you will be frequenting restaurants where you know there is a good chance of CC just so you can have a donut for breakfast. Im not making fun in here. This is how addictive chemicals work. It is science.
I myself have an addictive brain chemistry. I can thank my Dad for that (alcoholic). My drug of choice was food. I am a recovered bulimic. The VERY conversations I see in here are EXACTLY the kind of conversations I had in my own head when I was actively binging. It is a dangerous thing to entertain.......if you are Celiac. My favorite binge foods were pizza and donuts. Both VERY HIGH in GLUTEN!! And sugar. Both addictive chemicals.
Best to nip it in the bud and recognize it for what it is. If you accidentally (and I mean really accidentally) get some gluten, call your sponsor.........DONT go on a gluten binge!

Hi Lois and welcome. A lot of people are self dx. You do not need a doctor's opinion to go on a gluten-free diet. But I will give a warning. If you are the kind of person that will "cheat" without an official dx, then you should get one. The reason being is that if you truly do have Celiac, everytime you eat gluten it will cause an autoimmune reaction and damage to your body.
Here is an example: Let's say you really are Celiac. So you go on a gluten-free diet and get better. But six months from now, you are feeling really good and you start to doubt that you even have a disease (this is common). So you say to yourself that you will eat a little gluten and see what happens. So you eat a pizza and everything seems fine. You conclude that you have no problem with gluten afterall and continue eating it. But you REALLY are CELIAC and you are getting major damage without symptoms (this happens and it is called "silent celiac" or "latent celiac". Then one day you dont feel well, you go to the doctor and they discover you have Type 1 diabetes or worse lymphoma. Because these 2 diseases are so closely related to Celiac, your doctor runs Celiac tests on you. And lo and behold you are Celiac afterall. But the damage is done. The results can actually be fatal.
So my advice to you is that if you are willing to stick with a gluten-free diet for the rest of your life without cheating, then do not worry about testing. It is always possible that you merely have an intolerance. But the cure is the same.....a gluten-free diet. The only difference is that an intolerance doesnt set off a cascade of autoimmune responses when you ingest gluten (although some think it can).
I hope this helps.

My drive is not near what it used to be. But the thing I find is that if me and DH have not in awhile, I miss it and I crave it. Not so much for the physical release, but for the connection it gives us. If you think about it, Sex is the one thing that makes marriage special. You can live with anyone. You can enjoy anyone's company. You can laugh and cut up with friends. You can eat and grocery shop with a roommate. You can share a bathroom with even a stranger. You can cuddle, hug, kiss, hold hands and nuzzle your children. But Sex is the thing that differentiates marriage from all of your other love relationships. It is special. It is vital to a marriage. Like JNBunnie pointed out, there are many ways to have this too....not just good ol missionary.
And any man with a sex drive needs sex to feel loved by their mate. If you are not enjoying this very special activity with him, he is feeling unloved right now. We all deserve to feel loved.
One thing DH knows about me and I have told him is that I am not always in the mood, but if he gets me going, I will perk up. I may not initiate it, but I will participate.
You say you exercise every morning at 5 a.m. to relive your stress. Then you say how "guilty" you feel about all of this and you are not meeting his needs. The "guilt" is your stress. If you guys can communicate and re-spark the intimacy, satisfy his needs for love/sex, you wont have so much stress (i.e. guilt). And that 5 am wake up call just might be something more enjoyable.

If they didnt take a lot of samples from your intestines in a variety of places, they could have missed damage. Often it is patchy. PLUS - do ask for a copy of ALL of your labwork and the biopsy interpretation. You will want these for your records and many have found out that the biopsy was POS but their doctor didnt know how to read them correctly. Leave no stone unturned.
You can ask for genetic testing to see if you carry either of the primary Celiac genes. This does not dx Celiac, but it could be one more piece to the puzzle for you in deciding if you feel you have Celiac.
If you can afford it, you can also use Enterolab, to see if they detect gluten intolerance from your stool. They also offer genetic testing if your doc. says no.
If the diet is working, why question it?

Sometimes I have to keep in mind that a lot of the people who come in here are not "health nuts" like me. I too Ali do not see giving a child artificial drinks. But many people simply do not have the wherewithall to know how to eat healthy. Secondly, once a child gets a taste for sweets, it is murder getting them off. And many overworked, overstressed parents do not have the energy to tough it out until the withdrawal is over. Not to mention school can throw a loop for any efforts made (with holiday parties, birthdays and tons of candy given as reward for good work). It can be pretty depressing to try to fight it. I know because I fought the good fight for years with my daughter. She would whine and cry for sweets that "all her friends got to eat". And I never let her have any. What I ended up with was a kid that would gobble up any and every sweet she could get her hands on when she wasnt with me which lead to headaches. So over time, on her own she realized that the sweets caused the headaches and she on her own accord scaled back. Now when she goes to parties or dances she only drinks water (if she wants to have a good time). If I had it to do over, I wouldnt have been so military about it.
But you do have to cut some people some slack. They simply are not used to eating whole foods and pure water. This is a entirely new concept and takes some time to digest.

I have been looking for ready made coconut kefir. I am currently drinking goat milk kefir. It is helping me, but frankly, I just dont like dairy. I dont like the aftertaste of ANY dairy. I found 2 companies that sell it, but they dont ship. Body Ecology does, but here are the ingredients:
https://shop.bodyecology.com/images/be301sf.webp
Then it says this:
But Does This Product Contain Gluten? Current research suggests that for persons with celiac disease and gluten-sensitivity the maximum safe level of gluten in a finished product is less than 0.02% (200 parts per million) and possibly as little as 0.002% (20 parts per million). Indeed, for a product to be labeled as "Gluten-Free," Codex Standard allow for up to 200 parts per million gluten content.
Although you see wheat and rye lower down in the ingredient lists for Coco-Biotic and Dong Quai, and wheat, rye and oats for BE Wholegrain, NO gluten was detected in laboratory tests for Coco-Biotic , only 6 parts per million was detected in lab tests for Dong Quai , and only 7 parts per million was detected in lab tests for BE Wholegrain (which is all WAY below the rigorous 20 parts per million or less threshold the FDA is pushing for to label a product "Gluten-Free.")
Aside from the fact that there are minimal amounts of these grains in Coco-Biotic, Dong Quai, and BE Wholegrain, the fermentation process actually breaks down the gluten; gluten strains normally bind in the body, but fermentation breaks it down so it won't! That means those with gluten-sensitivities may actually have their digestive systems improved and long-term their gluten-tolerance raised by these products!

The flour IS bitter. But if you rinse the grains well whole and cook them they are not. But Im not eating any grains at the moment. I tried corn again recently.....and up went the blood sugar. I'll stick to veggies and some fruits for my carbs.

This forum is filled with all sorts of people. People like you who just "lurk". People who come in here only when they feel like crap to vent. People who are new to the disease and need valid help. People who find Celiac/Gluten intolerance interesting even though they dont have it. And people who are doing well, but come in here just to help others and offer support.
It is a living breathing organism like anything else. You will not appreciate everything about it. But you do not need to. You can still benefit from it even though you do not like how each member behaves.
We are all lucky a forum like this exists.

I have lived in Florida (The Sunshine State) for 37 years....nearly all my life. With the exception of a day at the beach here and there, I have NEVER worn sunscreen. I dont wear foundation. My skin cream does not have UV protection. I am fair skinned. Not like a red headed Irish girl, but very light indeed. And my skin looks better and younger than a lot of women my age who "do everything right". I have some brown spots.....sure and I am starting to get a few wrinkles around the eyes. But my skin is just fine. No cancer.
I have always believed that sunscreen was bunk! It is good to protect yourself from burning in the case of all day exposure at the beach (if you are not used to it) but for day to day wear it is counter productive.
We NEED the sun!!
I got vitamin D deficient even though I live in FL and dont wear sunscreen. Some argue that it is the chicken before the egg. The disease causes the deficiency. Some thing the deficiency causes the disease. Either way, I believe it is good to get the levels back up and try to maintain it.
I am spending MUCH more time outside now that I got my levels up to normal.

If it were me, I would speak to my teachers about it. I cannot imagine someone not being understanding. Make it clear that it would be rare that you would ever have to get up suddenly and go to he bathroom, but it could happen. It has been 22 years since I was a senior in HS but I do not remember having to ask to go. If you really had to go....you just went. But maybe you could have a teacher that wouldnt like that, so an explanation would be a good idea.

I agree. We stay clear of things with a ton of ingredients and/or chemicals. Simple is best and less worry. There are certified gluten-free corn chips that are yummy.

Could be added Vitamin C that gives him D. That is common. Find a juice without vitamin C....might be hard.
Could try powdered Kool Aid without the sugar and use Stevia drops to sweeten them.

I use almond meal flour for all my crusts. I found several that look good. One had the calorie/fat count...I left that off.....
Pecan Pie
Makes one 9 inch pie:
2 1/2 cups pecans, toasted and coarsely chopped (see directions below)
3/4 cup maple syrup
1/3 cup brown rice syrup
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
3 tablespoons flaxseeds
1 1/2 teaspoons arrowroot
1/3 cup soy milk
Pre-baked Pie Crust (on page 233 in cookbook)
To make the filling:
Place the pecans in a large bowl. In a medium saucepan, combine the maple syrup, rice syrup, vanilla extract, ginger, and salt. Simmer the mixture for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and allow to come to room temperature. In a spice grinder, grind the flaxseeds to a powder. Combine the arrowroot, soy milk, and flaxseed meal with the maple syrup mixture, pour into a blender, and blend until smooth. Pour the liquid from the blender over the pecans. Mix well and pour into the pre-baked pie shell. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, or until the filling has firmed up.
For the toasted pecans:
Soak the pecans in water for thirty minutes. Drain. Place the nuts on a baking sheet and bake in a 350 degree oven for 12-15 minutes. Allow to cool to room temperature.
Pecan Pie
Makes one 9-inch pie
* 9-inch vegan pie shell, unbaked
* 3/4 cup water
* 1 1/4 cups maple syrup
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* dissolved cornstarch (mix 1/4 cup cornstarch with 1/4 cup water plus 1/2 tablespoon cold water)
* 2 tablespoons soy margarine
* 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
* 2 cups toasted, unsalted pecan halves
* Non-dairy ice cream, if desired
Preheat the oven to 400oF. Poke the pie shell several times with a fork and pre-bake for 3 minutes. Remove pie shell from the oven and place on a rack.
In a medium saucepan, combine 3/4 cup water and maple syrup. Boil for 5 minutes, then add the salt and dissolved cornstarch, whisking vigorously. Keep stirring and cook over high heat just until the mixture thickens and is clear. Remove from heat and add the margarine and vanilla, stirring until the margarine is melted.
Pour mixture into the pre-baked pie shell. Arrange the pecan halves on top, pressing one cup into the mixture and the remaining cup along the top of the mixture. Place the pie in the middle of the oven and immediately reduce the heat to 350oF. Bake for 30 minutes. Cool on a rack for about 11 hours, then refrigerate until thoroughly cooled. Add non-dairy ice cream, if desired.

Professional help could really help. Him feeling repulsive to you is pretty major. I know when I am in over my head and I call a therapist. You might want to think about that too.

Thrush is due to an overgrowth of the Candida Albicans yeast. It may or may not be related. But you need to treat it. You will need to eat a NO SUGAR diet for awhile. Sugar feeds them. No honey. Only a bit of fruit like berries that are low sugar till it is under control. No refined carbs like rice flour, etc. Simple foods: Meats, Eggs, Veggies, Low sugar fruits, nuts & seeds, oils and spices. Lots of water.
Caprylic Acid will kill the yeast in the intestines. Swishing the mouth with colloidal silver and spitting out. Then 2 drops of oregano oil under the tongue. Will help.
Google Candida + alternative treatment and you will find many helpful sites.
Hope it clears up soon.

I found this tonight will surfing around and thought it might help someone:
You first have to determine what caused this problem. The Vagus nerve, according to doctors, is what causes the food to move through the intestines. This is a reaction diabetes can cause.
The primary reason food does not move quickly is low HCL. When you have low HCL, the pyloric sphincter will stay closed because it is waiting for the chyme in the stomach to reach a low pH of 3.0 or less. Eating lots of veggies and fruit and no meat will contribute to this problem because meat is what the stomach primarily is designed to break down with pepsin that stimulates HCL production. Our bodies were not designed to eat high carbohydrate diets. Primitive man ate huge amounts of animal fats and little carbs Also try:
Betaine HCL --- take 2 if you weigh less than 150, 3 if you weigh more than 150 AFTER each meal
Probiotic -- take 1 in the a.m. and 1 in the p.m.
When you get enough stomach acid in the stomach, you should find that your digestion will move more quickly and you won't get that bloated feeling. Unless you had a severe trauma or a severe diabetes reaction, the vagus nerve issue is most likely a bad diagnosis. The low HCL should solve the problem when you take the above goodies.
Stay totally away from ALL vegetable oils, except Olive Oil. These very unstable, polyunsaturated oils are rancid when you buy them and they polymerize when slightly heated from the "cis" configuration to the "trans" configuration to form trans fats and your body cannot make endocrine hormones if you are deficient in good fats.
The correct food ratio should be: 40% carbs, 30% fats, 30% protein for each meal. The 30% fats should be broken down into: 60% monounsaturated fats (olive oil); 30% saturated fats from (butter made from raw cream - not pasteurized, coconut oils, beef from grass fed animals only, not commercial grain fed from feed lots), 10% polyunsaturated oils that have a 1:1 ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acids.
You can get raw, fermented vegetables that are very good for you at the following site: www.healingmovement.net or call them at: (310) 829-4283. They sell organic vegetables that have been fermented. Very, very good for you. 1/2 cup with each meal and you will see a great difference.
Also, avoid ALL HYDROGENATED OILS and ALL SOY products unless they are fermented like soy sauce and miso.

Im in the same boat with you right now trying dairy. So far so good. I hope it works that way for you as well. I am doing Keifer made with goat's milk.

Quinoa makes delicious tabouleh.
When I try grains again...if I do...I will make this again. It is really good.

If I have Thyroid problems, which my doctor won't check out, it might be the reason why I can't lose weight.
You do not have to be a slave to your doctor. You can find a new one. Or you can order your own thyroid tests. They arent very expensive. www.healthcheckusa.com usually has very good prices. You dont need a doctor to order the tests from them. Even if you have to sacrifice something you normally buy to afford the tests, it will be worth it.
I got my own tests and took them to my doctor with a copy of the new lab ranges for TSH. After 12 years of hell I finally got treatment for hypothyroid. It changed my life!!
