ARCHIVED Please Help Me Interpret This. Thanks.
ShayFL replied to smiles's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I too had to ditch the grains. Just not working for me after I went gluten-free. The only grain I eat now is maybe twice a month I have a few Tlb of amaranth flour to make a roux for a cream sauce me and my daughter like with clams. That is it!! At first I thought cutting out grains would be hard and I would feel deprived. But that didnt happen.... -
ARCHIVED Hashimoto Thyroiditis
ShayFL replied to MyMississippi's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes thyroid meds often take a lot of fine tuning. Some do great on straight Armour. Some find it has too much T3 for them. If you have trouble converting T4 to T3 then it is usually a better choice than Synthroid/Levoxyl. But everyone is unique. Some people even do best on straight T3. I take my Armour sublingually so I do not have to worry about... -
ARCHIVED Gi Pathology Report
ShayFL replied to artselegance's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Looks like mild intestinal irritation. If your blood labs come back POS. A gluten free diet is the answer, no matter what the doctors say. The PROOF is in the diet. You will know once you are on the diet long enough if it is the culprit. -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed?
ShayFL replied to gfwarrior's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
With the right doctor you would get a definitive CELIAC diagnosis. Your doctors are just not very good at diagnosing. You can request that your biopsy slides be sent to another specialist for interpretation (a second opinion). It is your right. But your blood panel is VERY ELEVATED. Why do you think that is? You shouldnt have ANY of those antibodies... -
ARCHIVED Stomach Pain Even gluten-free
ShayFL replied to Rivka's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Google: PepZin GI It helps heal the stomach lining. It is used in Japan for this and prescribed by doctors there. Non-toxic and safe. You might want to stick with cooked/steamed veggies for a month or so. Raw veggies can be harder to digest at first. Or puree the raw veggies in a blender before eating. -
ARCHIVED Kinda Gross But Could Use An Opinion
ShayFL replied to cadiacat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree you sound textbook and while self-diagnosis isnt always a good idea, since you are not going to go to the doctor due to financial reasons, implementing a gluten free diet will NOT hurt you. And you just might find your answer. I have not had hardly any stinky gas or D since I went gluten-free. Your intestines need time to heal. Many have... -
ARCHIVED Why My Husband Is Awesome
ShayFL replied to samcarter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
DH and I used to shop "together", but he started working more "at the office" and I started working less due to the economy....so it just fell into my lap. I dont mind too much. I hate driving, but I enjoy hand picking my food. He is good for quick runs now and again on his way home from work..... Im not complaining....he is a hard worker and good... -
ARCHIVED Why Is It All Or Nothing? Why Must It Be "zero Tolerance?"
ShayFL replied to MrsJohnnyG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Healing is a complex issue indeed. And I am sure there are many multi-faceted reasons people do not heal. I was just referring to what "triggers" it mainly. But you also have a valid point about as we age it is harder to heal.....already so much repair work going on in an older body....that it can take time and 100% gluten-free diet to "get anywhere... -
ARCHIVED Recently Diagnosed - Need Help!
ShayFL replied to gfwarrior's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree that this has been really good for my DD to learn to read labels and be "prepped" so if she develops health issues and needs to cut out gluten she will already be so close to there that it will not be traumatic. I dont feel like I am a BURDEN to anyone in my family. THEY ALL WANT ME WELL AND HEALTHY. My husband said he would do whatever... -
ARCHIVED Why Is It All Or Nothing? Why Must It Be "zero Tolerance?"
ShayFL replied to MrsJohnnyG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I wonder.....Not every Celiac/Gluten Intolerant gets the disease with the VERY FIRST bite of gluten....so is gluten really the "trigger". Or is something else the "trigger" that makes the body start reacting to gluten in the first place....... A lot of women get the disease after childbirth....so clearly "stress" is one trigger. Infection is another... -
ARCHIVED Sunflower Lecithin Order That Never Arrived
ShayFL replied to Gentleheart's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Someone did a chargeback on me 4 months after they bought my painting (without even contacting me). They just contacted their credit card company. They got their money back and got to keep my 900.00 painting. Common theft. PayPal is BUYER friendly. NOT SELLER. If you cant get ahold of the company, just contact your CC company. They will do the... -
ARCHIVED Sunflower Lecithin Order That Never Arrived
ShayFL replied to Gentleheart's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You can do a chargeback on PayPal. Call your Credit Card company and tell them what happened. They will initiate the chargeback. Be warned that it can take a full 2 months to resolve. But you WILL get your money back. -

ARCHIVED Hashimoto Thyroiditis
ShayFL replied to MyMississippi's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A lot has to do with how well you convert T4 (Synthroid is T4 only) into T3 (the active form of thyroid). In my family, we dont convert well and that is why we do better on Armour (has T3 ready to go) or a combo of synthetic and Armour. My Sister's labs looked perfect on Levoxyl but she felt like poo. Then adding the Armour which has T3 made all the... -

ShayFL replied to jasonhoutx's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You may just have a threshold level for these irritants. 1 beer fine. 3 beers not fine. I have not eaten soy or dairy for YEARS. I cut out Gluten about 4 months ago. I dont eat yeast and rarely eat eggs and my diet is more exciting and colorful than it ever was. Anything but bland and boring. Im also not eating grains. Tonight I had Cumin...
