BTW - This experiment failed. I digested them too well and got blood sugar spikes. So for now....I am grain free. -
ARCHIVED What's On The Menu These Days?
ShayFL replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Tonight it is Mahi Mahi. I put them in little tin foil packages. Let my daughter add the spices she likes...drizzle with olive oil. And I made roasted sweet potatoes and carrots. I put salt/pepper/garlic powder and a drizzle of olive oil on them and bake for 20 minutes...cut into slices. Yummy! -
ARCHIVED Post Diagnosis Appetite
ShayFL replied to 006's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It happened to me too. I was starving for about 6 weeks. Even waking at 3 am just ravenous. Then it went away. There were many theories thrown around. But likely your body is trying to make up for lost time. The gluten kept you from absorbing nutrients and now your body is starting to be able to do so. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Migraine Headaches That Look Like This?
ShayFL replied to TammyK's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Soy Sauce!! That has gluten...and you cannot just remove the crust. Really to know if gluten free will get rid of these for her, you have to go 100% gluten free. If you want a diagnosis of Celiac first, then she has to keep eating gluten and lots of it to get all of the tests. They sound like seizures to me. I used to get them in the middle of the... -
ARCHIVED Those Of You Who Use Digestive Enzymes....
ShayFL replied to jerseyangel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So I call "Answers From Nature" and speak to someone. I ask them where they get their "natural" vitamin E, since they claim their products are gluten, wheat, soy and nut free. He said it was a good question, he should know the answer, but he didnt. He would call me back. That was 4 hours ago. I smell a rat!! SO WHERE DO YOU GET SUPPLEMENTS WITHOUT... -
That is the thing about forums. They are anonymous. We can put any picture we want up. We can be whoever we want to be. You might thing I am a female, but I could really be a male...... Some people who come in here might not have ANY health problems at all. They might just be lonely and finding a group like this could be a godsend to them. Some...

Ive always called mine "sinky floaty" sensations. I get he pins and needles. Every once and awhile an icy hot pain. And sometimes my hands or feet get soooo cold even in the Summer time!! But they never look blue. I am hoping that it will continue to get better with gluten-free.

ARCHIVED Ultrasound?
ShayFL replied to nikky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ultrasounds are painless. They squirt some jelly on your tummy and move a smooth instrument over you. If they are going to do an intra-ultrasound where they use a special wand inside of your female cavity, then there could be some pressure as it moves by your uterus and ovaries. But it doesnt hurt at all. I have had both kinds. -
ARCHIVED Digestive Enzymes & Probiotics
ShayFL replied to Lukalovescats's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Some cooked foods are easier to digest than raw foods. The starch foods are prime examples of this: potatoes, rice. Heat degrades the crystalline structure of starch, making it more accessible to the enzyme action in your digestive system. Raw starch is hard to digest, but probably won't harm you unless you consume such foods in gross excess (difficult to... -
I dont know if anyone is a shill or not. And I am not going to say because I dont know. I used to sell on eBay and remember how rotten it felt when someone would email me accusing me of shill bidding. Here I was excited that I was going to make a sale and watching the bidding war, and some jerk had to email me with all kind of nasty remarks. In the...

ARCHIVED How Much Food Should I Bring On My Trip?
ShayFL replied to a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I would just take what you normally would, but try the new stuff while there. Nothing wrong with returning home with what you took. -
ARCHIVED Parents With Celiac
ShayFL replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If it were me, I would just keep him gluten free at home and with you. Someday when he goes to pre-school or kindergarten, or when visiting a friend, he will get some gluten. This you can be sure of. So he will get small amounts here and there but will be gluten free with you at home. I think this would be healthier than you deliberately giving him gluten... -
ARCHIVED Digestive Enzymes & Probiotics
ShayFL replied to Lukalovescats's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This is false information. First off, most of the digestive enzymes come from the pancreas, stomach, gallbladder and liver. The intestines neutralize them after they have done their part and absorb nutrients....that is their job. If an organ is not producing enzymes properly, taking supplemental enzymes can give that organ a much needed "rest" and... -
I have suffered from migraines for about 7 years. I never had them until I was in a car accident. But I only got them right around ovulation and menses. So I dont know if the car accident was an initial trigger with hormones taking over. I went gluten-free the beginning of April this year and have not had a single migraine so far. And I was at 2...

It is time for some testing!! Do you have Naturopaths in your area? That would be a good place to start. -
ARCHIVED Those Of You Who Use Digestive Enzymes....
ShayFL replied to jerseyangel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So went searching for supplements without anything bad in them....additives...binders...fillers...gluten...soy...corn...dairy...etc. Not easy!!! But I found these: Open Original Shared Link Before I order them, they are getting a call from me. Because they use "natural" vitamin E and tocopherols....but claim that the product has no wheat, gluten... -

ARCHIVED Dr. Mercola's Free Newsletter
ShayFL replied to purple's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I get his newsletters. I read them. But I always keep in mind that he makes his money selling crap loads of supplements and products. There is always research that can support your beliefs, if you dig hard enough. And many articles take the slant of the writers ideas (not necessarily the facts). So read them, but do plenty of research before deciding... -
I can second the high quality gluten free dog food. We rescue Great Danes. Danes generally only live to be about 7-8 and ours make it to 10-12. The food does make a difference in their health!! And you wouldnt have to worry about CC.

ARCHIVED Blood Retesting For Hashimoto's
ShayFL replied to Di-gfree's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You generally should up your dose every 2 weeks in the beginning by small increments. I did 1/4 grain at a time (15 mg.). When I got to around 120 mg, the increases got longer apart. I am now up to 165 mg. It has taken me a year to get there....slowly. I had periods of being symptom free, but then they would come back. That is when I upped. My doctor... -
