  1. I make my own using Carol Fenster's Recipe....In Cooking Free. If you don't have that cookbook (it's a good one to have) I can send the recipe to you, just DM me. The crackers turn out delicious every time and my non-celiac boyfriend loves them.
  2. I know there are various threads about Walmart, but none that I found are fairly recent and I wanted to share my excitement of going to the Walmart Super Center and discovering that most Walmart Value Brand products have GLUTEN FREE written in a fairly large font on the label. I was amazed to find both gluten-free ketchup for 98 cents when I had been paying...
  3. Wow! This recipe makes 6 small loafs? Do you know if it freezes well?
  4. Don't worry about reservations...they don't take them unless you have a group of 8 or more. And I've never found the need to call ahead. The places that have a official printed menu at the restaurant (Outback Steakhouse has one too) have to be more knowledgeable to answer questions about their menu just like they would for a regular menu. For the places...
  5. I love going to Pf Changs! The Cantonese Shrimp or Scallops are quite delicious, and very mellow in flavor. Also the Singapore street noodles are very good, but my and all of my friends' absolute favorite is Chang's Spicy Chicken, and you can actually ask them to mellow out the flavor. I've never made it to dessert but I hear the flour-less cake is to die...
  6. Thanks for the positive review. I suppose it's worth it then to order them online since they don't seem to be sold in any stores in Northern CA that I've found.
  7. My mom makes chicken noodle soup from scratch and it's always delicious. She doesn't have an exact recipe per say but this is how she told me to make it: 1 Cover chicken pieces, a breast and two thighs does nicely, with a full pot of water or gluten-free broth. 2 To the water add salt, pepper, sage, and thyme for spices all to taste. Throw in a...
  8. I'm Polish and German and the only one in my family who has celiac, although my sister seems to be developing a gluten intolerance.
  9. I find it very upsetting that someone would say being gluten free is a lifestyle. That makes it sound like it's a choice, and it's not!
  10. Yeah they're pretty greasy. I used to eat them alot until i found out that Lays Stax are all gluten free and made on a dedicated gluten free belt.
  11. I go to Chipotle all the time. I ask for them to change gloves and get a chicken burrito bowl and the chips every time. I've Never had a problem with them. It's my number one good-food-fast place to eat. The menu isn't complicated, very basic, but so yummy!
  12. I've been to Mukuni's in downtown Sacramento several times and the staff has been very accommodating. They don't technically have a gluten free menu but I spoke with the manager (who consulted some secret book in the back office) and she and I went through almost every menu item to determine what was safe or not. Any of the sushi rolls are ok if you follow...
  13. I just received my August/September 2008 Living Without Magazine and was so excited to see it. On page 39 there is an awesome recipe for s'mores bars I can't wait to try. There's a picture of them on the page and man do they look delicious (but high in calories). I'm really glad my family continues to get me a subscription to this magazine every year; I...
  14. I absolutely love all of Pamela's cookies and mixes, especially the yellow cake mix. I've never had any issues with the brand but alot of people on this forum are allergic to additional ingredients and thus that's got to be the reason they don't by Pamela's, but if gluten is your only allergy, Pamela's is a fabulous choice.
  15. I'm sorry to hear you had such a hard time. I've had one really bad dining out experience with the wait staff, and the chef of a restaurant in California! The chef couldn't even manage to tell me what were in the mash potatoes, but he did tell me they came out of a box which made me really suspicious. I had been reassured via email by the owner that they...
  16. I've been gluten free for 3 years and it was very difficult for me in the beginning. My friends and boyfriend were very supportive, but it was difficult going out for social occasions. It was about a year before my boyfriend and I ventured out and ate gluten-free at a restaurant. I did alot of research; pretty much called or spoke with any and every restaurant...
  17. I just went to Qdoba for the first time and had a naked chicken burrito without any negative reactions. I was so excited to have added a new place to eat out at. Don't get me wrong, I love the burrito bowl from Chipotle, but variety every now and then is good.
  18. I was very skeptical of sushi for years but once I tried it I fell in love. I did alot of research about making Sushi at home and you need to get the fish from a specialized food market, like whole foods or an Asian market with a fish counter. I'm going to be traveling down to Carlsbad in a few months. Any places you'd strongly recommend for dining options...
  19. I finally had a Thai Kitchen Noodle Cart for lunch and it was really good. I had been looking for a gluten-free version of top ramen and this comes pretty close. It certainly doesn't cost .25 cents like the top ramen, but I did get it for $1.50 at Target. Now that I know they're good I'm going to need to buy more than 1 next time I see them on sale.
  20. Has anyone been to a Roly Poly? I just got one near my house and am interested in trying them out. It seems like any of their salads should be ok. Their thing is wrapping all their sandwiches in tortillas instead of a bun, and of course they don't have a gluten free tortilla option but they may be able to wrap a sandwich in a big lettuce leaf. Here's a...
  21. I know there are misc threads about Baja Fresh but no one had a complete idea of what was and wasn't safe so I finally called the company and found out that pretty much any of their burritos in a bowl sound be safe. I was told the only items on their menu that contain gluten are the following: Churros Flour Tortillas Tostada Shells Flautas Tortilla...
  22. I just got a copy of their gluten-free menu and it sounds delicious! Did your wife and you enjoy dinner here? I'm posting the menu for anyone who's interested: Appetizers Sesame Glazed Artichoke (No garnish and no aioli) Steamed in a spiced broth and flash grilled $7.95 Salads Strawberry Fields Green Mixed green salad with feta cheese, pecans...
  23. It may be too late for your birthday but if you love Carrot cake you have to try Carol Fenster's Carrot Cake Recipe from her book "Cooking Free" Carrot Cake 2 1/2 cups gluten-free flour 2 tsp baking soda 2 tsp cinnamon 1 1/2 tsp xanthan gum 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp ground ginger 4 eggs 1 cup packed brown sugar ...
  24. I recently went to Pizza Rustica too and it was great. My boyfriend and I used to have a favorite pizza joint we'd go to every time we were in the bay area but since I went gluten-free 3 years ago we've been on the hunt for a gluten-free pizza place, and while this place is tiny, the pizza was delicious! Even with the current cost of gas in CA I would drive...
