  1. Hi. I'm from Northern CA and Monterey is gorgeous! I hear you about being nervous to travel. We have an upcoming trip with my 3 kids. First time the family has traveled (or eaten out together) since going GFCFSF. It would be SOOOOOOO much easier if it was "just" gluten, huh? Anyway, couple of ideas for you. Have you tried Enjoy Life snack bars....
  2. Hi. I copied my post for you from last month when someone was asking....... Ooh, I'm completely jealous. I LOVE Vegas! Have a blast! Previous post..... Hi. I went to Vegas over the holidays. So fun! My husband and friends surprised me for my 40th birthday! It was my first trip after diagnosis last August. I went with a bunch of power bars in my...
  3. Neat project! One poster suggested offering items that exclude other major allergens as well. Along those lines, it would be extremely helpful to actually list ingredients for all menu items. That way diners can accommodate their individual intolerances/allergies. Good luck! Jill
  4. Hi. Yes, the cuts on my fingertips spontaneously appear. They start at the corner of my fingertip and are about 2 to 3 mm long. My skin just literally opens up. I started getting them after my second child (8 years ago). At first we thought I was allergic to the baby's wipes or diapers or something. But, no. That is the same time I just started going down...
  5. Hi. I talked to corporate at Regal Theaters. He said their popcorn is gluten-free. We also asked about casein if we hold the butter. Strangely, he said the seasoning they use also contains casein. Sorry I can't help with other theaters. Enjoy the movie! Jill
  6. Boy Wonder, I'm sorry you're suffering so much! You know what? The pic you posted of the rash in the web of your fingers is EXACTLY what I get. Same place too. Itches like mad. And, the other pics you posted of the little bumps look like the rash I've had for years on both legs above my knees. It comes and goes in severity. Sometimes the bumps...
  7. Here's my fav.....GFCFSF Chocolate Chip Cookies They look like regular chocolate chip cookies, just a tad lighter in color. They're not at all gritty like most gluten-free cookies. And, the taste is very, very, very close to Toll House Original. I even like to eat the cookie dough--that says a lot! 1 c. + 2 T. Tom Sawyer Gluten-free flour (I think Better...
  8. Lisa, Just a thought.....I was sure I was feeding my dog a gluten-free dog food. We're using California Naturals Lamb and Rice formula. I verified with the company that their ingredients are gluten-free. But, when I tested it using the ELISA EZ Gluten test, it came back positive. Hmmm. I called the company again and turns out it's manufactured on lines...
  9. Hi. I'm so sorry you're hurting. When I get that way (soy for me) I do the baking soda trick (1 1/2 t. in a glass of water) that was mentioned. It doesn't cure, but it does definitely help. Hope you feel better soon. Jillian
  10. Hi all, I wrote to Nutribiotic and their response was that the berry protein powder is fine. They asked me for the lot number, but I had already tossed it in frustration. The best I could do was tell them when and where I purchased it. I am confident there was no mistake in my 2 tests. I was super careful and followed the directions exactly (it's an easy...
  11. Hi. I wrote to Bare Escentuals (see below) and most of their mascara's are gluten free. I, stupidly, was using the Big Tease mascara from Bare Escentuals and it contains wheat. No wonder I live on Visine. Grr. Honestly, I don't know if I'm reacting to it (other than constant red, itchy eyes) because I still have SO much healing to do. Maybe it's holding...
  12. Hi. CelicMom2008 gave great advice. I just wanted to add that both my daughter and I got worse before we got better. After initially going gluten-free we felt wonderful--but only for about 5 or 6 days. Then we felt awful. My doctor said we were going through die-off of immune cells. My daughter (10) took about a week to feel good again, but I took a full...
  13. KPanther, Hmmm. Let's see if I can explain the gene thing. Someone please correct me if I get this wrong. You have DQ3. DQ3 is a broad serotype category with split antigens HLA-DQ7, DQ8, and DQ9. Your subtype is DQ8 (allele 0302), a Celiac gene. My subtype is DQ7 (allele 0301), a gluten sensitive gene. You also have DQ1. DQ1 is a broad serotype...
  14. I think I'm getting even more sensitive if that's even possible. I got glutened Tuesday night from taking a sip of my husbands soda. I accidentally picked up the wrong glass on my way up to bed & took just a single drink. Well, dh comes running after me and tells me that I took his soda and that he just ate a bunch of whole grain crackers. At first he...
  15. Hi. Welcome to the forum! It's been enormously helpful to me over the last 5 months. My reaction to your post is that you might have other food intolerances besides gluten. I'm casein free as well as soy free. The food that can make me (a thin person) instantly look 5 months pregnant too, is soy. Oh, that's a bad one. I'm in horrible pain within 2 hours...
  16. Hi. Yes!!! My 5-year old who's been diagnosed gluten intolerant used to get terrible leg pains. Poor little guy--they would wake him up out of his sleep. I used to have to stay with him and gently rub his legs until the Motrin kicked in and he fell back to sleep. We were also told they were just "growing pains". But, since he's been gluten free...
  17. Gentleheart, THANK YOU for being so AMAZING! I really appreciate all the time and energy you've spent on this. Cheers, Jill
  18. Hi. My 10 year old daughter just had her friends over. We served personal pizzas. We used Kinnikinnick pre-made crusts & Contadina pizza sauce. My dd had Columbus pepperoni & mushroom on hers and loved it--no cheese. My son likes his with Vegan Gourmet soy mozzarella cheese. And her friends used regular mozzarella cheese & pepperoni. And, I...
  19. Done! I wrote to them. I will post their response. Jill
  20. John and Andrea, Here's an entirely different thought.....Gluten and Casein (milk) proteins are very similar. My doctor said that it's possible for the body to mistake the casein protein for gluten. Is that true? I'm not sure. But, I do know that my daughter, 10, gets the same reaction from both. She too gets a little dizzy and nauseous. She's also irritable...
  21. Hi. I got the test strips from ELISA at Open Original Shared Link. They're called EZ Gluten. I have to say that I only tested the BERRY protein powder--not the vanilla and not the whole shake. I ran the tests twice. It is possible that it's a batch problem. Perhaps they have trouble with CC from time to time. Or, perhaps they're following the old standard...
  22. Here goes, Lisa...... Vanilla Cake - GFCFSF 1 bag Pamela's Classic Vanilla Cake Mix 4 eggs 1 box jello instant vanilla pudding 1/4 c. canola oil 3/4 c. water Mix all ingredients about 1 minute. Pour into a greased pan and bake* 325 for: 1 9" pan, 35 - 42 min 2 8" pans, 25 - 30 min 1 9 x 13 pan, 28 - 32 min cupcake pan (3...
  23. Hi Lisa, Yes, it sounds like your son does have Celiac. Your doctor will probably want to do a biopsy. I'm so very sorry. It is perfectly o.k. to cry. I sure did. My 10 year old daughter and I were diagnosed Celiac in August. And, my 5 year old son is very gluten intolerant. I cried. Then cried some more. Yes, the diet is very difficult. I tossed everything...
  24. Hi. I went to Vegas over the holidays. So fun! My husband and friends surprised me for my 40th birthday! It was my first trip after diagnosis last August. I went with a bunch of power bars in my suitcase figuring GFCFSF would be ridiculous to accommodate. I did o.k. -- got sick once, but I think it was soy. We stayed at the Encore/Wynn and mosty ate...
  25. Hi all, Just wanted to let you all know that I detected gluten in Nutribiotic Berry Rice Protein Powder. I used ELISA Technologies EZ gluten test (which tests to 10 ppm). I tested it TWICE. Positive TWICE. I just wanted to warn all of you with the proper disclaimer of course. I know there was a thread a while back questioning the validity of ELISA...
