  1. Sharon, The same thing happened to my 7 yr old son. The dermatologist said he'd take a 2nd biopsy with the stain if the 1st visual peek looked like DH was a possibility. Well, the first peek came back as "eczema". Someone here on the forum said that DH is a form of eczema, so it is supposed to visually resemble it. This happened last summer. We are still...
  2. Hi Syl, Take a peek at Freeda Vitamins (www.freedavitamins.com). They're all gluten free. I, too, am gluten free, dairy free, and soy free. I've never had any issues with them. They make several varieties so I'm sure you can find one to meet your needs. Hope you're feeling better soon! Jillian
  3. Ravenwood, Your tale brought tears to my eyes and a smile to my face all at the same time. I'm so sorry you lost your little buddy. She was something special. Hugs to you! Jillian
  4. Yes, there often is an element of gluten withdrawl. My daughter, who was 10 at the time, felt wonderful the first 5 or 6 days gluten-free. But, then she felt like she had the flu for about a week. After that she felt wonderful again. I too felt so good the first week, but then my withdrawl lasted about 4 or 5 months before I got to the "other side". Nausea...
  5. You can try Freeda Vitamins (Open Original Shared Link). They have an iron vitamin listed under "Minerals". Per their website, they are free of just about everything, except the good stuff! No Aluminum No Dyes No Meat No Sulfates No Artificial colors No Eggs No Milk No Sulfites No Artificial Flavors No Fish No Preservatives No Talc No Aspartame...
  6. Just a thought.....Do you happen to drink lots of diet soda or eat things with lots of Nutrasweet/Aspartame? For some, like me--a former diet pepsi addict, the artificial sweeteners make me CRAVE sugar. If I drink it, I know I'm going to be jonesing for jellybeans! I stay clear now. Jillian
  7. Thanks for the help! We glutened him on Sunday afternoon and so far so good. I'm guessing he's still in the range of possible though since he's been gluten-free for almost 2 years. He still has remnants from the last rash 5 weeks ago, but definitely nothing new. We did the full blown allergy prick testing and came up empty handed. So, either he's terribly...
  8. Count me in! I scratch my shins till they start to bleed sometimes. Like others, it's much worse in the evenings. And, it happens every day--with some days worse than others. About 2 months ago I went for skin prick testing thinking I must have a true allergy to something. Turns out I have a lot of true allergies, but an elimination diet didn't cure the itching...
  9. Hello. Wondering how fast it typically takes for DH to appear? We gluten tested our 7 yr old today. He's been gluten free for almost 2 years after being diagnosed gluten intolerant. However, now we think he actually has Celiac and is getting gluten rash when he's glutened by mistake. I have Celiac as well as one of my daughters. Any insight...
  10. ChemistMama, Oh, I was afraid of that! I searched everywhere to try and figure out if you will still test positive after you've been gluten-free for awhile. Darn. We are still going to induce gluten next Sunday. We've got a week that's not too crazy so he won't be missing anything if he's miserable. I really hate doing it, but I'm quite sure it's the cause...
  11. Thanks for the replies! Appreciate it! My son is already gluten free. Has been for almost 2 years because he's gluten intolerant. But, now we think he might be Celiac like myself and my dd. The rash is very infrequent, but very severe. So, we (and his allergist) are thinking it's when he's glutened by mistake. I found a new dermatologist and registered...
  12. Another possibility.....it may be the artificial food dye. My son gets extremely hyper within a short while of consuming anything made with it. He's been artificial dye free for almost a year now. He was a completely different little boy from day 1 of being dye-free. He's 7 now. Jillian
  13. WheatChef, You're right! I didn't realize that, but googled it and it's correct. That doctor is an idiot! Thank you! Thank you! Jillian
  14. Hi All, My already gluten-free DS has been getting awful rashes on elbows, back of neck, sometimes above knees too. They're very infrequent--about every few months sometimes six months or longer. Perhaps when he is being accidentally glutened. I have Celiac and my son is gluten intolerant. So, I'm wondering if he is actually Celiac as well and getting...

  17. Hi Roda, Just a thought.....you mentioned that the dog is on a "grain free" food but the cat is not. Are you washing your hands after feeding the DOG or when she licks you??? I myself researched & purchased 3 different brands of "grain free" dog food that don't add any gluten ingredients. And know what? All 3 brands tested POSITIVE for gluten using...
  18. Laurie, Only a few days without gluten shouldn't mess up the tests. I didn't realize you hadn't tested your kids yet. You need to....while ON gluten. The gluten-free lifestyle requires 100% dedication. It is life changing for the ENTIRE family. You're going to need ammunition to stick to it. IF gluten is the problem and IF the kids go gluten free before...
  19. Hi Laurie, I have treat jars at school for my kids. That way when an unexpected birthday treat comes in, they can choose something that they like from their jar. I take class parties one at a time. I find out what the plan is and then work from there. For example, my son's class is decorating heart shaped sugar cookies this week. So, I'm sending in a Gluten...
  20. Hi Jstbeingamom, My 6 year old son has been diagnosed gluten and casein intolerant. One of his symptoms is hyperactivity. It got so much better when he went gluten & casein free. HOWEVER, we didn't not truly see a change until we removed artificial food dye. Turns out, he reacts within an hour or two. Artificial dye is in just about every kid food...
  21. Here are a couple of ideas. I've got veg friends too. We've made roasted veggies over quinoa. You can separate into 2 pans and add tofu to theirs and chicken to yours if you want or just stick to the veggies. I've also made a vegetable curry in 2 pans--again one with tofu and the other with chicken. Both were delicious! Have fun! Jillian
  22. Hi. Rice Dream is processed with a barley enzyme. I suppose for some that's too minor an amount of gluten. However, my daughter & I have personally gotten very sick 2x from it. Once was early in the diet when I didn't know and made french toast with it. The second time someone else made us cornbread with it not realizing. Now we use Pacific brand.
  23. We use either Earth Balance organic buttery spread - or - Smart Balance LIGHT Omega buttery spread. Both are gluten and dairy (casein) free. Also, FYI another biggie for a lot of folks is soy. Best of luck!
  24. Hi. Hmmmm. You may have other intolerances. I can not eat ANY Kinnikinnick products because they all contain pea protein. I'm soy free and have found that all beans, peas & legumes are terrible for my tummy. Have you had any of their other products? Do you react to them?
  25. Hi. I don't know if speckled ANA's are correlated with Celiac/gluten intolerance, but for the record, myself and 3 children all have them. 2 of us are Celiac and 2 gluten intolerant. Strange. The doctors never did figure out why. Your symptoms sound a lot like mine and a lot of others here, so do go for a full screen before you try the diet. I hope...
