ARCHIVED Gene Test Results... Worth Waiting For!
Mother of Jibril replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I saw that too when I was looking around on the web. Also... DQ7 is associated with cow's milk intolerance! That's what my son has. I was just talking to my mom about these results. She said, "So does that mean you'll have a problem with dairy when you start eating it again?" Who said I'm planning to? I LOVE cheese, but I love my health more. -
ARCHIVED Gene Test Results... Worth Waiting For!
Mother of Jibril replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I did it through Enterolab... $174 with tax. The gene test was the only one I ordered. I'm not sure if my insurance company would have paid for it. I didn't ask. I live in a small town and I'm having a hard time finding a good doctor who's willing to work with me and test for things Enterolab does give you an invoice and codes so you can submit... -
ARCHIVED Gene Test Results... Worth Waiting For!
Mother of Jibril posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In August I went to see an allergist because I was having a lot of abdominal symptoms (pain, bloating, gas, constipation) and I thought it might be food allergies. After doing a skin test (which turned up nothing), she suggested I try an elimination diet for two weeks followed by a challenge for any food(s) that seemed like a problem for me. When I stopped... -
I could answer yes to a lot of those questions too... The idea I'm testing right now is that I might have vitamin and mineral deficiencies caused by low stomach acid (hypochlorhydria). Here's one link I found for more information: Open Original Shared Link Over the last few days I've been wondering if some of my lingering problems (after...

ARCHIVED Tests For Food Intolerance
Mother of Jibril replied to roxnhead's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I went casein-free in April for my son's benefit. I was having a lot of abdominal pain, gas and bloating and I thought the new diet might help me too (it didn't). Going off gluten made a HUGE improvement, but I was still having a little cramping, bloating and gas. Two weeks ago I stopped eating corn to see if it would get rid of my son's eczema (which... -
ARCHIVED Hair Loss
Mother of Jibril replied to pixiegirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I gave the baking soda test a try this morning... no burping! I'm excited to give this treatment a try and see what effect(s) it has This could explain SOooo much!!! -
ARCHIVED Gallbladder Surgery
Mother of Jibril replied to krisb's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm sorry I don't know much about gallbladder surgery specifically, but do you have a fever? That's a clear sign of infection... definitely something to get checked out ASAP. -
ARCHIVED First Time Eating Out
Mother of Jibril replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I find that at parties most people won't notice if you're not eating. If someone does, they might just think you're not hungry... or maybe you're a picky eater! Restaurants are a little more tricky. You could get away with just having a drink... tea, coffee, maybe a glass of wine if you drink alcohol. Calling ahead is a good idea. You could also... -
I went to see a dermatologist a couple of months ago because I thought I might have vitiligo. I'm pretty pale already, but I noticed a few white spots on my hands. Also, the skin around my eyes was noticeably whiter than the rest of my face... like I had been spending a lot of time in tanning beds with those little goggles. After checking me out...

ARCHIVED Hair Loss
Mother of Jibril replied to pixiegirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry to get off on this tangent... I'm startled by the list of symptoms connected with low stomach acid. How does one go about fixing that? I'm working on my thyroid disorder, but is there anything else? -
ARCHIVED Colic - Sign Of Future Celiac's Disease?
Mother of Jibril replied to skinnyasparagus's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My son had colic. It was really bad... in addition to crying for hours on end, he also had projectile vomiting and green diarrhea mixed with mucus and blood That was at six weeks old. When I took dairy products out of my diet it made a HUGE difference. Night and day. It took about a week to see progress, but within a few weeks he was completely back... -
Nora posted a really useful link about vitamin D... Open Original Shared Link It convinced me to start taking a supplement! I think skin cancer is a legitimate concern when you have fair skin and live in Australia... my dad has had several basal cell cancers removed from his face. Instead of more sun, I would try giving your daughter a supplement...

ARCHIVED Hair Loss
Mother of Jibril replied to pixiegirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
One more thought... Autoimmune disorders tend to cluster... your hair loss could also be from alopecia universalis. -
ARCHIVED Hair Loss
Mother of Jibril replied to pixiegirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Susan, Hair loss and dry skin are classic signs of hypothyroidism. Have you had your TSH level checked? In August I found out mine was 44.3 (normal is 0.1 to 3.0). I've gone through several periods in my life where I was losing handfulls of hair especially after my two full-term pregnancies. I also have problems with a dry face, scalp, feet... -
ARCHIVED Hello From Wisconsin
Mother of Jibril replied to tiplernorth's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm from Wisconsin I grew up near Eau Claire (Altoona). I've had a rash on my buttocks for a loooonnggg time that finally seems to be getting better on the gluten-free diet. I have an appointment with a dermatologist in December. How was the biopsy? -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Pre-natal Vitamins?
Mother of Jibril replied to Lori-greenacres's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
One more option... I'm still taking Rainbow Light's "Just Once" prenatals. I checked to make sure they were gluten-free. I've been ordering them from www.naturalhealthshoppe.com to get a good price. -
ARCHIVED So Sorry To "trouble" You.. Ugh!
Mother of Jibril replied to mysecretcurse's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Tahini is made from sesame seeds. I found this recipe: Open Original Shared Link Do you have any "ethnic" stores in your area? Lebanese would be perfect. Also, try looking in the nut butter section of your health food store... I think that's where mine keeps the tahini. -
ARCHIVED Any Body Had Shingles More Than Once?
Mother of Jibril replied to mamabear's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My mom has had shingles twice. My grandfather also had it twice before he died. It comes from the chicken pox virus, which can lay dormant in your body for decades and be re-activated during times of stress. There is a medication you can take the lessen the severity of symptoms (Zovirax), but if you think you have shingles you need to get it RIGHT... -
ARCHIVED Why Is It Not Curable?
Mother of Jibril replied to catch 22's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Here's the way I see it... maybe someone has another perspective... Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder. When people who are genetically susceptible to autoimmune disorders develop a leaky gut (through food intolerance(s) and/or exposure to environmental contaminants like mercury, lead, etc...) their body starts producing antibodies. Once in the... -
ARCHIVED Craving Something Creamy (any Ideas?)
Mother of Jibril replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I find chocolate almond milk (heated up, so it's like hot cocoa) to be a very satisfying treat! -
ARCHIVED Covered In Hives
Mother of Jibril replied to blondebombshell's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
A skin test can't tell you anything about food intolerance. It's looking for IgE mediated reactions that cause your body to produced histamines (an allergic response). If your "hives" (could it be DH?) are delayed more than a few hours that's an IgA or IgG response. Only a blood test or elimination diet can tell if you're having that kind of reaction.... -
ARCHIVED Do I Have Celiac Symptoms
Mother of Jibril replied to boobybabs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Quick note for Lakota John... Low body temperature is a common symptom of hypothyroidism. Have you had your thyroid checked? A normal TSH should be between 0.1 and 3.0. Gluten intolerance and hypothyroidism often cluster together. -
ARCHIVED Are Grits Safe To Eat?
Mother of Jibril replied to dizzygrinch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Grits are made of corn (hominy is dried corn with the outer hull removed). Assuming they haven't been cross-contaminated they should be safe. I love a good bowl of grits... with lots of butter -
ARCHIVED Sugar
Mother of Jibril replied to bear6954's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Assuming your son doesn't have other allergies or intolerances, I would focus on high-calorie foods and not worry so much about the drinks. One ounce of almonds, for example, has 175 calories. Here are some high-calorie (but healthy) foods: - Nuts (peanuts, almonds...) - Seeds (pumpkin, sunflower...) - Coconut - Avocado - 1-2 oz of cheese per day... -
