  1. Okay, what's normal for being pregnant? Being hungry all the time! Really, it doesn't matter if you have celiac or not--you're going to be hungry 24/7. Don't fight it--eat what you need, because it will only benefit your baby. Take it easy....in this case, celiac doesn't play much of a part. You're going to be hungry...it just comes with being pregnant...
  2. The statistics for gluten-free food made in facilities where wheat is also processed is 30% likelihood of being contaminated and 70% if the equipment itself is used to process both gluten-free and wheat products. That said, I eat either Cocoa Pebbles or Fruity Pebbles on a regular basis (have for the past seven years since being diagnosed with celiac), and...
  3. It's a long shot, but it might be that he reacts to iodine--as many of us do. I believe that McCormick's garlic salt contains iodine...and so do most dairy products if they aren't organic. I have to avoid iodine, or I become quite ill. Just a thought...
  4. You'll need to eliminate iodine, too, in order to help get rid of the hives/rash. DH has a tendency to be caused by BOTH gluten and iodine ingested together. Iodine can be found in iodized salt (so it's used a lot on potato chips and fries), some fish, crustaceans, asparagus, and dairy products in some areas of the country. I've found that organic dairy...
  5. I hate to give you bummer news, but your thyroid meds contain iodine--there's no way around it. When I developed Hashimoto's (form of hypothyroidism common in people with celiac) three years ago and began taking meds for it, I broke out in a rash across the top of my back. I knew that I was sensitive to iodine (and I have DH if I ingest BOTH gluten and...
  6. I'm not going to comment on the cancer possibility (which I've never heard of--and I have studied shingles and herpes viruses for many years). However, I WOULD like to advise you to begin taking L-Lysine on a daily basis (at least 2,000 mgs daily) because studies have shown that it cuts recurrence of herpes-related infections (and shingles is part of that...
  7. Have you checked out the possibility that you have PCOS? Do a search on this and see if it sounds familiar (especially the acne). However, I agree with others that you might have a sensitivity to gluten, as well. I would also investigate sensitivities to dairy and soy, too.
  8. At the annual conference of the Gluten Intolerance Group of North America in Minnesota (last June), two doctors emphasized how gluten is now considered a neurotoxin that can cause ADHD, depression, learning difficulties, schizophrenia, etc., in people with celiac. They also explained that celiacs can feel clingy, nervous, and anxious. It's a good thing...
  9. I agree that your immune system should be stronger now...however, maybe you're a bit deficient in Vitamin D, which is so common in people with celiac. At the last conference I attended, it was recommended that we take 10,000 IUs of Vitamin D3 daily. If your Vitamin D level is low, you can catch viruses very easily. Also, taking L-Lysine (500-1,000 mg daily...
