  1. I would double check all of your foods. I thought I was gluten-free but noticed some days I felt like crap even though I would be eating almost the exact same thing everyday. It turned out to be a cross contamination issue with Lay's potato chips. So double check your foods and make sure they are not made on the same lines as other wheat/gluten containing...
  2. Sorry if this was already posted since I did not read all the posts: https://www.celiac.com/articles/915/1/Celia...ease/Page1.html
  3. Does anyone know if Southern Tsunami's Spicy Rolls are gluten free? Or any of their other products for that matter. The only ingredient that seems questionable is "grain vinegar." All the other ingredients seem to check out, but I am still afraid to find out the hard way. They clearly label all known allergens but doesn't that mean that another form of gluten...
  4. This is kind of embarrassing and yet, really funny. Numerous times I have had (I guess you could call them nightmares) dreams where I accidentally eat gluten and then immediately wake up.
  5. I take Enzymatic acidophilus pearls. A thing of 30 is like 12 bucks at GNC. It comes in a blue box. They're cheap and quite effective.
  6. I would have to agree. I honestly would not be that surprised that everyone who was treating themselves for Candida have Celiac. I was convinced I had Candida because I always found that grains, sugars, and starches made my symptoms much worse. Turn outs, it was just the gluten. The treatment for Candida, is also coincidentally, very similar to the treatment...
  7. Try a gluten containing grain such as barley or rye. If your symptoms return you know it is the gluten bothering you and not just wheat. At first I thought it was just wheat bothering me since I noticed improvements when I avoided wheat but it ended up being gluten. So if you want to find out quickly, I suggest you eat a lot of barley and rye. Good luck
  8. There must be some other food that is causing your constipation. I was constipated my entire life (only 19 years) but like other people did not realize since I always thought it was just the way I am. But ever since removing dairy and gluten from my diet I have not had a single problem. Too many probiotics can also cause constipation and excess bloating...
  9. Usually when they take a biopsy of the stomach, they also take one of the duodenum (the opening of the small intestine) and sometimes even the esophagus. So they had to have taken one of the small intestine when they were down there.
  10. Congratulations on finally getting a diagnosis, just be careful of cross contamination and hidden gluten.
  11. I would completely agree. It will take a while for all those symptoms to come back.
  12. A gluten free diet will effect the endoscopy. Length times will always vary person to person and there is no way determine how long it takes for the villi to heal, each person is different.
  13. I did and that was negative as well. Although I was eating very little gluten at the time.
  14. Are any of these findings suggestive of celiac? Small bowel biopsy: benign small bowel mucosa. No Villous Atrophy, Inflammation or other abnormalities present. Gastric biopsies: minimal chronic Gastritis. No Helicobacter Pylori, Dysplasia or malignancy identified. Esophageal biopsies: Benign Squamous Mucosa with mild changes of reflux. No features...
  15. I understand your fears but I agree, don't get ahead of yourself. Lactose intolerance is very common with celiac disease, you have nothing to worry about. It occurs because of the damage that gluten does to your gut. You lose the enzyme lactase (digests lactose) for a while, but if you remain gluten free for long enough, your gut will heal and you will be...
  16. Is it gluten-free? I have heard that it uses a wheat vinegar but all the gluten is removed during the fermentation process.
  17. I am the same exact same way and I was wondering the same thing myself. But, I think I have an explanation. Look at it like it's an allergy. I read a study where people who were allergic to peanuts were given very small dosages of peanuts every once and a while directly into the blood stream. A year later, they found that these people had much less severe...
  18. Hi,

I am logged on as DNP, currently finishing a dissertation on Celiac Disease. I am collecting information regarding the effects of the disease on families. If you could share you personal story with me, I would appreciate it. Send info to doeykelly@aol.com. I am an RN with a MSN in community health. I think creating awareness of this to many in the medical community is important. Thanks H

  19. 1. Everyone is different and takes different amounts of time to heal. But if you saw an initial improvement that quickly, I'd say gluten in sneaking in somewhere. I would double check everything and even make sure the stuff you are eating is not made on shared lines of wheat/gluten ingredients. If you are unsure or it does not say, call the manufacturer to...
  20. Would non-Celiac gluten intolerance include symptoms of depression, steatorrhea, insomnia, and fatigue? I would assume that bloating and loose stools are common in both. And according to wikipedia, non-Celiac gluten intolerance does not exist and not according to Web-MD either. Apparently it's not an official diagnosis, but maybe more of an allergy?
  21. Has anyone had a neg biopsy w/ neg blood work? but positive Enterolab results? I would just like some confirmation that I have celiac, just for my own personal gratification. Does anyone have any suggestions? My next step is going for genetic testing.
  22. I'd also be careful with bananas; they are a prebiotic and if added with a probiotic, you can get a lot of bloating and discomfort. You always want to try and git rid of some of the bad bacteria, so when the good guys get down there, they have a place to live. I'd recommend enteric coated peppermint pills and then about 3 - 4 hours later take some probiotics...
  23. That's not a bad idea. But after my reaction, I immediately got rid of that pepper and replaced it with McCormick brand pepper and had no harmful reactions/side effects. I think the only way to know for sure would be have to have someone else try it.
  24. My guess is that you can have both. I believe that's what I have. As recent research has shown there is a striking similarity between the structure of gluten and candida. Also if you truly are gluten intolerance, the bad bacteria and yeast will feed off of the gluten. I'd recommend Threelac, it does wonders for me, but some people have told me it really did...
  25. Now that you mention it, I remember seeing on the label, the nutritional information for the salt, but not for the pepper. It only said "black pepper contains an insignificant amount of nutrients." It also listed the ingredients for the salt, but not for the pepper I only saw "black pepper."
