ARCHIVED Gluten-free For 8 Months And Current Numbers And Questions..
foodiegurl posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I went to the University of Chicago celiac center 2 weeks ago. I have a local GI dr who diagnosed me, but wanted an expert on the subject. I have been gluten-free for just under 8 months now, and I have gone through my house with a fine tooth comb...and we are 100% gluten-free. I love cooking, so we don't eat out often, but when we do (maybe once a month... -
I have an appointment tomorrow, after waiting months, at the Celiac Center at the University of Chicago with Dr. Kupfer. I have already been diagnosed by biopsy by a local dr, but I wanted to go here for them to look over everything and check anything else that needs to be checked, etc... I figure if this resources close and available to me, I should go...

ARCHIVED What Do You Eat At These Types Of Places?
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lisa, thanks. I am actually familiar with those places. I guess what I need to know is, I am going to be out of town, and say we go eat Mexican...which foods should I aim for. Of course I will still ask question, but just so I know what to focus on. If that makes sense. I may be a foodie, but since being gluten-free, I do most of my gourmet eating... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Eat At These Types Of Places?
foodiegurl posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have started feeling much more comfortable going out to eat, but I also find I tend to keep going to the same places, because I know I will be safe. I love food, and used to go out to eat at all types of interesting places before. For example, I keep eating Indian, Ethiopian, Thai and Middle Eastern, because I feel comfortable, especially with Indian... -

Since March 2009 How often or many times do you think you've been hit with wheat? three time, I believe Anyone been diagnosed with cancer, kidney or liver problems? ARCHIVED Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte
foodiegurl replied to haleym's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Interesting. Gosh, I have been drinking chai lattes there for years and have been fine. I have never tried a latte though. The iced passion green tea and hot chocolate are some of my favorites too. -
ARCHIVED Nestle's Hot Cocoa Mix
foodiegurl replied to Ahorsesoul's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Abeulita, Mexican hot chocolate, imported by Nestle is gluten-free, and delicious!!! **But only the disk format is, the powder form is NOT gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Ice Cream
foodiegurl replied to OliveGrove's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Haagen Daz sent me a list in the mail of all the ice cream that was safe. And while I don't have the list in front of me, basically everything is OK, except the obvious cookie dough type ice creams. I eat Haagen Daz all the time! I also eat Ben & Jerry's cherry garcia too without problem. -
ARCHIVED Going Back To Meat...maybe. Craving Protein.
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think my delusions of meat grandeur may be over. I cooked steak tacos for lunch today, the first time i have cooked meat since i lived in this house, and I just feel icked-out now. Though my daughter scarfed it up - lol. I don't think i could ever do chicken, because just seeing the word spelled out makes me queasy. I think I will hold out again right... -
ARCHIVED I Think I Was Glutened, But How?
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Interesting about the Ma-Ke rice crackers. It was actually my first time I ever had them, though it does say "gluten-free" right on the package. They had some rice crackers that did not say, but the package I bought did say it. i usually buy the Sesmark rice crackers, which I have never had an issue, but this was all I could find at this particular store... -
ARCHIVED I Think I Was Glutened, But How?
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I guess it could be, but that would seem odd right after eating? I live in Wisconsin, southeast, right near IL. And I use Seventh Generation dish soap, which I think is pretty safe. I use all organic hand-soaps and lotions in the house that I have carefully checked and used from even before going gluten-free. I am fine with soy and dairy. Gosh... -

I did check it. And before I bought it, I read that Grey Poupon would be safe. Hmm..... -
ARCHIVED Going Back To Meat...maybe. Craving Protein.
foodiegurl posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel like lately I am craving protein. I see meat somewhere and want it! But when i start thinking about the meat and over-analyzing it, I wimp out. I have only eaten fish for the last 4 years. (BTW....I can't do poultry. Ever since I was pregnant 5 years ago, I have had an aversion to it, and still do). I honestly feel like my body is craving... -
I am so frustrated, I have gone 6 months, with maybe one glutening, until recently. I think I had one last weekend...at a party, so I can understand that one. But, I was glutened today, at my house, with a lunch I prepared, and I just don't know what did it? Our house is 100& gluten-free. For lunch I had, this is what I prepared for the 4 of us...

ARCHIVED Am I Doing B12 Under The Tongue Correctly?
foodiegurl posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel so silly asking this, but seriously, i am not sure if I am doing it right - LOL. It seems so odd to put a pill under your tongue to dissolve, and it takes about 20-30 minutes to dissolve. Lately it seems the best place for it go, is under my tongue, but kind of off to the side, so I can still talk and it doesn't move around. Or, is it supposed... -
ARCHIVED Should I Allow Myself To Get Glutened For My Trip To France?
foodiegurl replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This makes me laugh, and sounds like something I would say. i have lived in France, and travel there pretty often, though since I have only discovered I have Celiac this year, I have not been there since. Though, I actually have a friend there (in Normandy) who has it, by coincidence. I admit, I HATE knowing I can no longer have real French bread when... -
ARCHIVED Gluten In Frozen Fruit?
foodiegurl replied to Mi55-E's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I would have to agree with the previous poster who mentioned it may just be the teff, regardless of gluten. I know for me personally, i used to love quinoa, but now I will get the worst stomach ache afterwards, and it has nothing to do with gluten. Maybe try a different brand of teff to test it out? -
ARCHIVED Suggestions Needed For Charleston, Sc
foodiegurl posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Anyone have any good gluten-free suggestions for Charleston, SC? I would prefer something local to a chain. Thanks!! -
I am so confused now...so McDs fries are OK to eat? Or the actual fries themselves contain gluten?

ARCHIVED Need Help!
foodiegurl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry to repost a question i posted elsewhere...but I am an hour away to going to a cook-out, and my friend told me this was what he was using on the salmon he was cooking, and was wondering if anyone could tell me if i would be safe, or should just have it plain... https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...mp;#entry554977 Thanks! -
I was just wondering if anyone knows if Kirkland's 'Sweet Mesquite Rub' and 'no salt seasoning' are gluten free? cheers!
