  1. You will really be OK! Trust me. I have not had as much trouble as you, but when I was first starting my special diet I had a lot of frustrations... no more homemade cookies from mom, no more bratwurst on a bun, no more beer, pizza, etc. But then I realized that yes, I can make this work. It has taken creativity, that's all. One thing that might be...
  2. Some questions on IgA deficiency! Would an Ig A deficiency cause me to not react on an allergy panel, or to have a delayed reaction to the testing? If I am Ig A deficient would I even feel those allergic reactions to pollens and stuff (mostly stuffy nose and itchy face)? I know that Ig A deficiency does affect the outcome of the celiac panel, so...
  3. I have discovered flourless cookies! I made peanut butter chocolate chip, but I would love it if anyone has any others, like flourless snickerdoodles, gingerbread, etc. I am tired of all these wierd, expensive flours and I like the texture of the flourless ones a lot. Any ideas? Flourless Peanut Butter cookies 1 c peanut butter 1 c sugar 1 egg...
  4. Hello! I hope that there are some Swedes out there or others who know how to make real Swedish pepparkakor. I used to live in Sweden and they had them by a company called Semper and I am REALLY missing them! I have to have them with my gl
  5. Hello! I am going to start making an emergency kit with foods and supplies, and I am wondering what you all put in your kits. I know the basics like water, a bucket, first aid etc. But of gluten-free food, what would be good? Do they make gluten free MREs? Maybe some of those really bad ENER-G loaves of bread that stay good forever? And pasta? Peanut...
  6. So.. now that you are gluten free, you have gotten one of the biggies out of your diet, but it may be time to try taking dairy away and seeing how you are doing. I know a lot of people with celiac/gluten intolerance have sensitivities to dairy, either caesin or lactose. I know that right after going gluten free, the lactose intolerance would literally confine...
  7. Oh... and may I also add, in my case at least... LOSS OF MEDICAL COVERAGE! I couldn't go in for an endoscopy now if I WANTED too, unless I had a bunch of money to throw around. Felt sick, tried diet, feel better.... that's all the diagnosis I need to know what's good for me and what's not!
  8. Oh, how I identify with you! My clinic has regular potlucks, and I have NEVER eaten anything but a plain salad/veggie sticks from any of them! People always have commented about how healthy I eat, etc, and ask me if I'm vegetarian and stuff but I just say that I have a really really sensitive stomach and I know what I can and can't eat, and people dont...

    ARCHIVED Not Feeling So Good!

I just wanted to say regarding the BRM hearty bread mix.... BRM uses an ELISA assay to make sure stuff is gluten free. Maltodextrin can be from corn, or wheat. In the states, its usually from corn. I dont think BRM would be able to market it as gluten free if they have maltodextrin in it that was from a gluten source. The MALTO part can throw us off...
  10. The gluten-free diet will help in the sense that, if you are having a shortage of muscle-critical vitamins, you may be able to absorb them easier. One of the great things about gluten free is that most gluten-free grains are easy to digest and not too irritating to the gut. Gluten is a complicated protein. Try to clean up after baking bread and you have...
  11. The Trader Joes popped BBQ chips are marked gluten free, but it says on the pack that they are made on SHARED equipment with wheat products! And now... I feel like Im getting... well... kicked in the stomach. If it is from these, Im ticked but perhaps its something else not even related to gluten.
  12. WOW amazing research. And Im so happy they will make these gluten free! I got glutenized by these, so I will have to try the new ones. YAY!
  13. Besides the obvious things like cooking gluten free stuff in a gluten-ized kitchen, I need help identifying cross contamination sources in products. I recently have gone through a cross contamination thing where I got glutened for days without knowing what product it was. I know now to avoid things processed on a shared line with gluten ingredients... ...
  14. Well, with Starbucks it is so hit or miss that I am kinda not into having coffees there anymore. I am actually glad that I am not the only one with this dilema. The latest was likely a peppermint soy mocha sans whip that got me. Im sick of that, so I just have chosen to only get tea or black coffee there!
  15. Im in the same boat as you now... I am SOOOOOO incredibly self conscious about my gluten intolerance! Do some role playing and eventually you will get the hang of it! I am finally getting up the nerve to tell my fellow employees at work the reason I dont eat the potluck food and the pizzas that they order! The more often you talk about it, the easier...
  16. Hi, Im not diagnosed with celiac but have gluten intolerance. I have been allergic to sulfa drugs since childhood, and am also cross-sensitive with the sulfites found in wine and beer. Dried fruit also has it as well. Earlier this year I had a lot of issues with it but not lately. I will react with flat, itchy red patches on my neck, chest and chin area...
  17. Hi there! I am a massage therapist who also has gluten intolerance and works with a patient who *also* has gluten intolerance! Go figure! I work in a physical therapist's office and see a lot of patients of all ages and activity levels. In my own experience, I know that gluten intolerance can cause mineral/vitamin/nutrient deficiencies that cause...
  18. Yeah- Ill have to just buck up and make sure I stop and think each time I eat something. I was very careful at the beginning but as time goes on I need to not think that something will be OK unless I can verify that it is. It seems like it takes soooo long for my gut to be normal after I think I eat a no-no, but its so hard when you dont know what the no...
  19. My blood test was negative for celiac, but my ARNP said that false negatives are definitely not unheard of. I figured it out myself after doing an elimination diet- I was going to go back in to get an endoscopy but then my Mom convinced me that my own experience is diagnosis enough.
  20. no.. Im at about 2 inches... but I heard also that people with gluten intolerance also have really short pinky fingers in proportion to their ring fingers... my pinkys are about 1/2 inch shorter than the last joint on my ring finger! Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it! :D :D
  21. Hmm... it seems like a lot of people have had problems with the quaker rice cakes... Ive been eating about one per day for the last week and perhaps theres been a build up of symptoms. Jeez louise.... being gluten free requires that one really pays attention. from now on, if it doesnt say gluten free on it, Im going to be extra careful!
  22. Hey there! So sorry to hear that you have so little support. My mom is great... she goes out of her way to make sure that I can have options. I am single and live on my own, but we went on a family vacation together and I brought my own gluten-free hotdog and hamburger buns (we went to an Oktoberfest celebration, lots of bratwurst and hamburgers, which...
  23. Hello! Does anyone have experience with acne and dairy? I am lactose-free, but not dairy free (I cant live without my greek yoghurt!) I read on a few occasions that caesin allergies can make you have acne. Im 23 and get large, deep acne pimples primarily on the chin and jaw area but also everywhere else on the face. I have scars as well from these...
  24. Hello! Im 23 and have had acne since I was like 8. I discovered that I have gluten intolerance about 2.5 months ago and I havent noticed a huge difference with my acne or my seborrheic dermatitis (sp) on my scalp and sometimes ear (I know.. gross!). One thing though, is that the dermatitis seems to be ever so gradually getting a little better, as well...
