  1. What about W.I.C. They were very helpful when my children were toddlers. My youngest was unable to digest formula (projectile vomiting) and my boys were on the small side so we qualified until age five. Both boys are six foot tall now and the baby is 5'4". The time flew on happy wings
  2. I was diagnosed first by a co-work/fellow celiac. I didn't believe him. The family doctor sent me to the gastro who said allergies not related to celiacs. Funny thing was I didn't ask him about celiacs. He sent me to the immunologist (allergy dr.). The immunologist (Dr. Horbal) tested me for food allergies. After removing wheat, soy, dairy, and a few other...
  3. Grab-n-go fat slice of ham and an apple, coffee smoked brat and a handful of grapes, coffee precooked sausage and a banana, coffee precooked bacon and an orange juice, coffee peanut butter on a rice cake, peach, coffee trail mix (nuts, chex, dried fruit), milk, coffee Our Dr said that it takes a body 6 hours to break down protien, 2 to...
  4. Watch your carb intake and portion sizes. More greens, less rice.
  5. missy'smom is right. Most of the really healthy foods in this world are naturally gluten free. But the fun stuff is also out there in gluten/dairy free form. If you need more specific information for the "what will he eat" try making a menu and researching this site and others for specific ingredients to meals. It's not hard once you get started. Sunday...
  6. My son's blood test was negative. But the Dr prescribed a gluten free diet anyways based on family history and symptoms. He's not taking it very seriously and his body is punishing him for it. He's 18 so I can only point him in the right direction and hope for the best. I thought maltodextrin was safe here in the U.S. But like soy lecithin some people...
  7. The article said the new information will help point the scientists to the next set of questions to ask. Mine would be..... Is there a difference in the level of risk if the mother has an active case of celiacs or carries the genes but has not been triggered yet? Is the risk lowered if the mother is gluten free during pregnancy? In this article they only...
  8. As your friends age they will also begin having restrictions. No salt, low fat, no sugar, unable to walk or stand for long periods, frequent trips to the restroom, sore backs, bad knees. We will all make accomodations because we still want to be together and not sit home alone. As long as you return the favor and accomodate their needs there really is no...
  9. Thank you Freeda and Rondar for responding. I'm glad to hear that the word is getting out and that dr's are responding positively. It gives me hope that my son's illness will be recognised and treated appropriately should he ever be placed in a hospital or correctional setting again. No one should have to be mentally ill and have the runs! I worked as...
  10. Ask and then leave a good tip. They will look forward to seeing you again.
  11. Yeast is definitley a possiblity with any antibiotic. But another thought.......I get the furry tongue thing when I reduce my diet to my safe foods so that I can test a new food. I think it's a detoxing reaction. Sometimes I get a runny nose and a scratchy throat along with the furry tongue. I have to wait until this all clears up before testing the new...
  12. Hi, the elimination diet my Dr. had me use was like this.... Make yourself a very basic list of foods you think are safe for you. Eat from only that list for a week. If you're not feeling well you will have to rotate the foods on that list in and out of your diet until you have removed the offending food. After you are sure you have your safe list, begin...
  13. Can you drink nut milks? Almond Milk, coconut milk?
  14. I've been gluten free since March, so about four months. Until the last couple weeks it felt like I really needed those healing naps on my days off and I was in bed at 9pm. Now I'm working 10 hour days and staying up until about 11pm. I'm still not planning fun things to do on my days off or jumping right into my chores like I need to but I'm awake.
  15. It takes me several days to get the gluten through my system and yes when I finally get it to come out it floats and is foul.
  16. Wow, that's the kind of thing we need more of! It could have levels of difficulty and reward us with coupons for gluten free pretzels
  17. I would be really tired and hungry if I only ate what you described. I usually eat two eggs and a banana for breakfast. Apple, peanut butter, juice or almond milk for lunch. Afternoon snack of cereal or chips. Meat, veggie and rice or potato for supper. And I've lost 13lbs. If I wanted to lose more I would replace the banana with tomato, juice with water...
  18. I'm not self diagnosed but I have found that many people that I talk to know what celiacs is and have a friend or relative who is gluten free. You can just tell the truth. "Gluten really makes me ill, so I don't eat it." Everyone has something that upsets their stomach.
  19. Adherance to the diet shouldn't be a problem. My son and I found that the less gluten we ingested (I never ingested it on purpose, he did) the stronger our reactions were to the gluten we did ingest. You'll want to do the elimination diet and a food log - what she ate/when/how much - and how she's feeling. It's just like when you started her on solids as...
  20. I found lunch box sized almond milk's yesterday. Maybe those would be an option for you. I don't do well with nuts but the nut milk doesn't bother me at all.
  21. Why are you putting celiacs in your application? I would never do that. Celiacs does not effect my ability to do a good job and if it did I wouldn't want them to know it until after they fell in love with me and know that my talents outweigh my tummyaches. As for cloudy and sad everyone has those days. A walk is a good idea.
  22. Dapsone has side effects but it does work to stop the itch. It's prescription.
  23. Thank you My boss and I use to have Hazel Nut coffee when the guys have the day off (Fridays) but since this happened ...... I got glutened once and haven't sniffed Hazel Nut since
  24. Since she's willing now while school is out for the summer would be a good time to try it out and see what happens. Ultimately she is going to decide wether to stick with it or not regardless of what the dr's say.
