  1. I had contacted Stoneyfield Farms a while back also and was told that though they use grain for the flavoring it is distilled, just like with hard liquor, so the gluten should be removed. However, I had found that I was getting ill and pin pointed that as my culprit. I still buy Stoneyfield Farms, but I buy the Fat Free French Vanilla (or Fat free regular...
  2. I've given up on bread for the most part. Other than the whole foods pizza crusts which I turn into pita pockets and only have them on rare occasion. I roll sandwich meat with a piece of cheese and consider it a "sandwich" anymore. Sometimes I still miss bread, but for the most part I've gotten used to not having it.
  3. I live in NC where the Whole Foods gluten free bakery is, and have been buying the gluten-free WholeFoods since before they started to "mass" produce. The bakers at Whole Foods who began this are celiacs themselves. It is a dedicated bakehouse and warehouse. Enjoy! The stuff they make is incredible. Try the pizza crusts!!! I keep them on hand all the...
  4. This isn't a store bought cookie either, sorry, but I got some Bob's Red Mill gluten free all purpose flour and just followed a regular choc. chip cookie recipe, although I added 2 tbsp of guar gum and instead of making cookies, I pressed the dough into a flat brownie type pan. I was surprised how good it turned out, considering I didn't follow a special...
  5. Where did you get gluten-free lasagna noodles??? Or did you use something else. I found some pre-cooked gluten-free polenta at a specialty store, sold in a tube similar to how you'd buy ground sausage. It's a solid piece and suggested slicing the polenta lengthwise and substituting it for lasagna noodles. I did that a few weekends ago, and MAN was it...
  6. I eat the Quaker grits ALL the time and never have a problem with it. Grits are not oats. The oats are what may get cross contaminated on their conveyer belts. As far as cross contamination during shipping, I'd think the chances are nil. The grits are not only in a box, but in individual sealed packets within the box. If cross contamination is an issue...
  7. Funny, I just used McCormicks taco seasoning tonight. The Taco seasoning is OK Burrito is not. I sprinkle it on corn chips, shred some cheese add the taco seasoning and put it in the micro. Great snack.
  8. I called on these quite a while ago and was told they were gluten-free. Have been eating them for about 3 years with no problem until recently. However, I think I'm developing a reaction to peanuts and peanut butter. I get blisters on the end of my nose, around the nostrils...really strange place whenever I eat peanuts or peanut butter anymore. I...
  9. I was so appalled at an article I read a few months ago about a young lady not being able to go through her first communion because she couldn't eat the wheat wafer. The bishop wouldn't recognize it unless she ate a certain percentage of wheat. Absolutely ridiculous. These guys are so full of themselves, they're completely ignoring what Jesus would do...
  10. Getting back to the original post... ConAgra will LIST anything from gluten. For example, if it says artificial flavor it should list behind it "(derived from wheat)". I called them about 2 years ago and was assured that I could trust their labeling to list anything that had an allergen. (they classify celiac as an "allergy" for simplification) Kraft...
  11. Most of my friends are very understanding of my problem, but I'm constantly asking for EVERY ingredient that was put in anything and then I have them get the bottles/containers for me so I can read them all. If anything is questionable i.e."flavor" and it's not a name brand I trust (Kraft, ConAgra, General Mills, McCormick...to name a few--they will ALWAYS...

    ARCHIVED Health Insurance

Well, I was declined due to "medical history" No details are being provided to me, unless I send a request in writing for the insurance companies to mail their reasons to my doctor. I can THEN get the reasons from my doctor. (after paying for a doctor visit, I'm sure!) I never had an official diagnosis, and who knows if it's even THAT that they're looking...
  13. Just wanted to add my own 2c as well. My best friend has been battling cancer and been to nutritionists regarding modifying her diet, etc. and a lot of the food combinations posted here are what she was instructed to do as well. Between her ailment and my ailment we've done a lot of research and find so many conflicting theories and you'll find other...
  14. I have trouble finding those nut thin crackers, too. when I do, I usually buy a bunch of boxes. They are the best I've found so far. SOO good. My husband even likes them and he's not gluten intolerant (so he's not allowed many.they are MINE..he can have his own wheat crackers! hummphh)
  15. A1 is safe. I have it all the time.
  16. The Swanson broths are NOT OK. I checked with them a while ago. Health Valley sells organic chicken, beef, vegie broths that if you buy them in the cans are OK, but for some reason the waxed cardboard containers have gluten (made in different plants, they told me) Also Herb Ox boullion cubes are OK.
  17. I'm allergic to shell fish as well. That appeared suddenly several years ago (after having eaten crab, lobster many times up until then with no problems) but appeared before the gluten problem. I'm also allergic to bee stings, but I don't eat them
  18. Ya know...I noticed a different smell to myself shortly after going gluten-free as well. Fortunately mine wasn't too offensive, just stronger. It was noticable just sniffing my arm, for example. (I smelled like vinegar) I attributed it to detoxifying and it eventually went away. But sometimes even now after being gluten-free for 3 years, I notice it...
  19. The vitamins I'm currently taking I buy at Kroger. They're "Nature Made" I've also found Rexall vitamins suit me well and they are gluten-free. The liquid chlorophyll I take is by Nature's Sunshine and many of the other supplements I buy are Nature's Sunshine brand. I find them at herb stores. Remember that our bodies only absorb about 30-50% of what...
  20. Further proof that we shouldn't take the word of the alleged medical "professionals" as gospel. Do your own research. Some pills MAY have gluten in them under the form of maltodextrin or other types of dextrin. In food made in the US, maltodextrin is made from corn and the FDA regulates that. For some reason even though FDA stands for food AND DRUG they...
  21. BOY do I have a lot to contribute on this, I hope. I've been gluten free for almost 3 years now and it doesn't seem like it's been that long, really. It's always a challenge and I've found things that help me get better quickly in case of accidental contamination. Believe me, I've experimented with many diff. supplements and things. When I was...
  22. Maybe someone else in the household used a knife on bread and then on the cheese? Or you cut the cheese on the counter that had some crumbs on it? Always be careful to prepare your foods on a clean counter or do like I do and get a clean plate out to use to prepare my food on. Hope you're feeling better.
  23. Look on the back of the package for a toll free consumer services phone number. Give them a call and ask them. They may even be able to supply you with a list of products that are gluten free. I know that in general Kroger stores are gluten aware...that is, they seem to have a growing selection of gluten free items. I've been intending on calling Kroger...
  24. I think the person who posted the anti dairy anti meat statement may be a "troll"...look at the date they signed up..one day prior to posting. Someone's on a mission, me thinks. BUT....also, I'm not so sure I'd take a doctors advice as gospel either. Look at how long it's taking the medical profession to understand gluten intolerance. They also USED...
  25. The home page of this website will link you to alcoholic drinks that are OK. As someone else posted, the distillation process removes gluten from grain alcohols. It has vodka, gin, rum, whisky, tequilla, etc. all listed as OK. With rum however, be careful of the dark rums because there might be coloring added. Actually, this may sound odd, but I seem...
