i love pamelas but this bag was cheaper and curiosity always gets the best of me in the end. i have heard of better batter and orgrans brands as also being a good mix. dont know about the ingredients though... ive been hesitant to order online thus far. if i read enough good reviews though maybe i will. i am going to try some different things. maybe this mix just wasnt good for the muffin recipe i chose. thanks for the input though!!!

I bought some Domata Living FLour. first premixed flour our health food store has carried except pamelas. i really like pamelas (: but i wanted to try this one.
it says to take regular recipe based on wheat based flours and then just sub cup for cup. i tried this in a muffin recipe and it was awful to be quite honest.
i used the recipe and followed it to the best of my ability. my muffins were very flat and they were very mushy in the middle. not like undercooked. but like there was no volume. after letting them cool, i tried to run a knife around the edges and pull them out. the edges came out but the middle of them fell right through. blah
so my question is has anyone had success with this mix? if yes, what did you make as far as baked goods? rolls, a particular muffin recipe, cookies... etc?
i want to make something i can be sure will work next time because i hate wasting flour if i can avoid it. i was so looking forward to betty crocker worthy muffins, with the big domed top and crispy browned sides
*sigh*
any tips or advice welcome!

tylenol and a hot bath and then your fave pjs, a blanket and pillow, the tv remote and curl up in the fetal position. it'll pass! i promise, but the tylenol usually takes the edge off

I agree with you about enjoy life cookies. i recommend kinnikinnik and glutino cookies over nana's because they are very dry and i dont care for the texture. there are some zebra dream cookies from glutino that come in two cookie packages so those might work.
i cant help with tasty bites... never heard of them
sorry

Roda i would LOVE it tooo!!!

my favorite thing to make fun of is when i tell people i can't have wheat they say say "oh! so you can have white bread then right?
people apparently don't know what is in the food they eat.
i also hear about taking the middle of the pie. or if i order a salad and they bring it out with croutons everyone suggests "oh just pick them out!"
then people feel they have to offer me cake so they arent rude and i always tell them trust me i'll be happier without it

Glutino is by far the best in my opinion. they have the wafer cookies and some oreo copies the. i dont know the soy status on any of their products though. sorry!
pamela's are also very good. the chocolate chip and dark chocolate and butter cookies are my favorites. they are all a little on the dry side as far as cookies go but for me the flavor was good enough i didnt mind a little dry feeling
i like kinnikinnik graham crackers. good texture and very yummy. they make a good cheesecake crust too! and their k-toos are good but those are a strange cookie. they dont really taste like anything. just sweet enough to curb a sweet craving. kinnikinnik oreo copies are probably my favorite gluten free packaged cookies. if those are soy free they are by far my first recommendation!

maybe your package was expired? just a thought
i have made it once and LOVED it. we took it over to dinner with another couple and we almost finished the whole pan in an hour. LOVED LOVED LOVED it. for me it turned out moist but not doughy and very springy. no butter required. i ate it like it was cake. weird thing is i havent liked any other bob's red mill mix but that one is one of my favorite mixes since gluten-free eating
sorry it didnt turn out well for you

I am allergic to msg so i can attest to the fact that it is not gluten. a gluten reaction and an msg reaction (at least for me are very differnt).
msg is a flavor enhancer and is not derived from gluten containing grains. but that's not to say people dont react to it for other reasons

she tells me her diet is low on starches and she is not supposed to have refined sugar. she seems to cheat on this because she was recently married and her hubby hasnt adjusted yet but this is the diet her parents had her on from childhood and that is the extent of my knowledge. i am not questioning her because i know how my diet is, so i will not question that of someone else. i understand what that is like

thanks! i have baked with sorghum before but im sure she's never heard of it haha. i am very excited to learn about her diet though... new territory for me

hello all! i am hoping with the vast amount of knowledge i have already seen on this site that someone can help me out. I am going to help one of my friends set things up for her halloween party and need some help. I was going to use this recipe: Open Original Shared Link
to make those littl hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls. who has a brand of little hot dogs that is both gluten free and msg free.
my other question which is the one i am more worried about. my friend has psoriasis and tells me she can't have refined sugar and can only have so much starch in a day. she tells me she is allowed a number of servings of whole wheat bread but maximum of one of their white bread. i am used to a diet where if something is not okay we can't have ANY of it so im not used to having the idea of an allowance haha. but anyways...
for this type of diet which gluten free flours have the baking properties needed for a crescent roll recipe while also not overloading her with starch? this is completely new territory for me! she also does the sugar free thing but i am allergic to artifical sugar, diet soda does awful things to me, so i am hesitant about using other things to replace sugar. any insight is helpful!!!! thanks in advance

was this somethin from a restaurant? if so, maybe someone knows what is safe there..
i got glutened at carraba's italian from a chicken caesar just a couple months ago. the gluten free menu tells you to order it like this:
caesar salad mixed separately, chicken cooked without grill baste, no croutons.
i had eaten it successfully once before so i went through all that and ate most of it... well thirty minutes later i was SICK. i don't know if it was the caesar dessing (i didnt like it so i got maybe two little dabs of it on one piece of chicken- not enough to cause such a reaction in my opinion but i could be wrong) or if it was the chicken and they skipped the no baste rule or if the salad had not been mixed separatly. my reaction was strong enough that it had to have been a wheat product and not just CC.
i know this doesnt answer your question but just thought i would let you know i have been there! and with the exact same dish

LOVE the smorables
mmmm..
i buy a package of them and keep them on hand. i like them for a snack or for a graham cracker crust for my cheesecake. delicious!

i know after i first went gluten free and for months and months afterward, every time i ate i focused so hard on what was going on in my stomach because i was so scared i was going to be sick. it seemed like everything was making me sick because i focused so much on it that every little stomach gurgle or cramp felt magnified... so yes it is very easy for us to be so afraid of having symptoms that we stress our bodies into thinking that something is wrong

I received this email yesterday from Busch Gardens upon emailing them to inquire about gluten free fods that could be located in the park. i was very impressed. they got back to me the very next day and were very forward and helpful. having never been there i was unsure what to expect but just knowing that they are aware and knowledgeable is comforting!
Dear Hannah,
Thank you for your email. I hope the following helps for you upcoming visit.
Here is some information on nut allergies and I also provided the gluten free
menu to help see food offered and where..

two questions
does baking them work as well as frying?
and can a person deep fry even if they dont have a deep fryer? (would something else work as well?)

call before and get the manager's undivided attention if need be. obviously they aren't very clear on allergens at this place so you may be better off just sipping a soda. but if you want to eat there, call ahead and givce them an approx time you will be there. tell him/her what you cant have and see if he/she has any ideas about what could be safe. either way dont just go in there, order something, and hope. chances are you'll get burned three out of four

i dont know your specific situation, but in defense to ahorsessoul's statement...
i was diagnosed at the beginning of august before my junior year of high school and until november or december i spent every passing period in the bathroom. your intestines may need time to heal, and even if you have eliminated gluten from your diet, go through every single thing you eat and seeif you are missing something. you could have additional allergies or you may be a supersensitive. give us an idea of products you eat other than fresh fruits and veggies.

i have a favorite mix (sorry i know you said recipe)
pamela's wheat free bread mix is awesome!!! i have done it twice and have ahd very good results. this last time i messed up twice and cut the rise time in half and still it had good rise and texture and didnt fall on me!!!
i definitely recommend it. the package has directions for stand mixer (i use a hand mixer which works but i know that it is wearing my mixer out prematurely and it has breadmachine directions which i have not tried because i am afraid of my bread machine
hope that helped a little

My kitchen is shared also. we have separate cereal, crackers, tortillas, and bread. eveything else is gluten free. when i cook i can eat it. on the rare occasion i make something gluteny specifically for him, the kitchen is cleaned BEFORE and AFTER it is made. before so i can see all counter space and will know where contamination is. if you have alot of things on your counter and you spill flour it may hide and remain there awhile. we have a four slice toaster that has not glutened me yet! i have found glass dishes are the safest. just make dinner like always with gluten free ingredients substituted in and have the whole family eating one meal. it is unnecessary to make multiple meals, our food is just as healthy and most things are just as yummy. i would continue to buy regular bread just becuase the gluten-free flours are so expensive
-
i LOVE love love bob's red mill gluten free oats. they make such good cookies and granola. they are the thicker cut oats and oh my gosh i just love them. i believe they are well worth the cost

The bread dough should work just fine if it isnt a batter bread
also pamela's mix is very good to make rolls with. its her amazing wheat free bread mix and it has a recipe online and on the big bag of mix for cloverleaf rolls. very very yummy
