  1. I get asked that all the time I can eat rice, quinoa (in small amounts) potato, lots of veggies, (TG I like broccoli) some fruits. Obviously I don't eat any processed foods, I just cook or prepare my own foods to carry with me. And oh - lots and lots of supplements and vitamins. Fortunately in the Atlanta area we have several stores...
  2. I am allergic to: eggs dairy soy beans nuts chicken fish shellfish oranges apples bananas corn chocolate oats barley strawberries rye and a few other foods that I can't think of at the moment: AND then I was diagnosed with celiac, it has seemingly made my food allergies worse - where I used to sneak a piece of shrimp once a year...
  3. Interesting reading! For a non-technical reply- I was diagnosed with over 20 food allergies 18 years ago and then celiac about a year ago. Do I think they're somehow related? - pretty much. That and the arthritis, asthma, etc. and other auto-immune related stuff.
  4. As a working single mom of now-adult kids: Neither of mine are/were overweight - I kept them active in sports and watched what they ate and drank at home (since I purchased and prepared the food). The schools phased out recess by middle school. (Yeah... that's the age when they don't need breaks! ) Fast food was a treat when I had the...

Whoa- I want the recipe on that one as long as it doesn't have lactose! cooked Quinoa Quinoa flour flax meal rice bran sunflower seeds- pulverized tapioca flour ener g egg replacement fresh mushrooms fresh ginger fresh garlic fresh onion cilantro balsamic vinegar agave nectar sea salt black pepper Olive oil I don't really measure...
  6. You know you're getting closer to perfection when, your son's cat steals your gluten-soy-bean-corn-nut-dairy-egg-FREE homemade veggie burger and actually eats it!

    ARCHIVED Bone Health

No broken bones lately - but I did have a bone denisity test done after the celiac dx. Something my orthopaedist said stuck in my head when I had a broken hand 3 years ago: that my bones looked small and fragile even for someone my age. Fortunately my bones were "above average" in the hip area, and just slightly "below average" in the upper back...
  8. Megan: I don't necessarily take the L-Glutamine for energy - my b-complex seems to have helped with low energy. But I do take it for both reasons mentioned by Claire, leaky gut and high intensity workouts. When I started back at the gym and playing soccer - I would feel pretty good through-out the workouts/games. But afterwards I would "crash...
  9. I can add some of the things that work for me: Protein intake: shelled hemp seed added to food - daily rice or hemp seed protein powder (for me 2x's a day - but half dose for now) (I am allergic to lots of proteins, these work for me) B vitamins: sublingular b complex, started off 3x's a day, now down to once a day Potassium! I take extra on...

    ARCHIVED Itching...

Malnutrition and/or dehydration can cause the itchiness. Possibly, sensitivity to the sun as well. Prior to my dx I couldn't scratch enough! Once I started absorbing the good stuff again - it subsided. Now the only itch I have is from my allergens.
  11. "I'm not bloated from my last glutening anymore today - now I just have these loose folds of skin on my tummy, blech." Me too! I work out 3-4 days at the gym, and play soccer 3-4 times a week. the rest of me is toned up and perhaps a bit underweight - never had a stomach before - what gives???
  12. I don't know what's in the actual coloring agent other than pigment and ammonia, but you can have them use a "more clear" peroxide that doesn't have all the "conditioners, buffers etc" in there. To be on the safe side - you can bring your own conditioner and shampoo, just in case... I've been using a clariol gel colorant and didn't get any reaction...

    ARCHIVED Sports Drinks

Guru energy sports drink info: Hello Alicia, We would like to thank you on behalf of GURU Energy Drink for taking the time to write to us about our product. To answer your question, there is no gluten or any ingredients that would normally contain gluten in the GURU formula. You can actually see for yourself if you read the list of ingredients...
  14. Going vegetarian can work with gluten-free diet. In addition to having celiac disease - I have extensive food allergies which includes most proteins (dairy eggs soy beans nuts chicken fish shellfish - to name a few). I have found shelled hemp seed added to my salads along with rice and/or hemp seed protein drinks to help with protein intake. Once...
  15. Just a note on the above published list: Tom's of Maine has a new line of products that does contain gluten.....

    ARCHIVED Applebees

Prior to my celiac disease dx, I used to attempt to eat there at lunch with my boss. But even with my food allergies it was difficult to find something. The veggies were prepacked with seasonings that I couldn't eat (don't remember what it was). The particular Applebee's where I attempted to have lunch at was not friendly. It was basically a take it or...
  18. All the docs prior to the ones that considered and diagnosed celiac disease (and there were many) wanted my gallbladder - I guess they hadn't had enough of those surgeries in the atlanta area lately. Mine is still intact, thank you!
  19. Anybody deal with this? I am allergic (was tested) to most proteins, shelled hemp seed is the only one I can seem to tolerate a bit of. I am at a decent weight and very active for my old self. I play soccer and work out. Since I have such a restrictive diet (including about 20 food allergies) I prepare most of my food and carry it with me. But...
  20. Well since we're on the ranting subject - I could go on about my inconsiderate 18 yo - on his way out of the house - son... but After telling to him PULEASE keep his food away from my area - he leaves a gluten crumb filled dish on top of my gluten-free lunch bag.... And I so get the "what happened to my "xgf foodxx"? Answer: well I was hungry...
  21. Personally, I play soccer (we have a league for "mature" women - oldest player I know is 62) and workout at the gym. I started off with a little cardio (eliptical and tread mill) and then went to working on weight machines. I have added alot since the start but I've never "hurt" myself in the gym - can't say the same for on the pitch. The "feel-so...
  22. Start SLOW and make sure you hydrated - If you're getting headaches, I would check with your doctor to see about which activities to start with. Headaches with physical exertion (in my little world) are typically (but not limited to) blood pressure issues, being dehydrated, or heat exhaustion. When you do work out, make sure you're getting...
  23. I don't eat meat anymore - I am allergic to fish, chicken, shellfish and a lot of other proteins (dairy, eggs, nuts, beans etc.) and have always felt "bad" (stomach issues and fatigued) whenever I ate pork or beef. I generally eat veggie items that have a higher protein count in them, shelled hemp seed being one that I can digest. And I take a sublingular...
