ARCHIVED Tested Negative For Celiac's
mamaw replied to walshclan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would also have your thyroid checked out. Make sure they do Free T-3 too.......And the test for lyme too... If insurance will pay I would get a DNA test done to see if you carry the genes or the gluten intolerant gene.... Cheating is the worse thing anyone can do in my book, it just causes additional baggage when one is already having a full plate of... -

ARCHIVED Almost Embarrassed To Say This.
mamaw replied to hipretty's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Usually in my opinion when something is dry & crumbles the taste is also altered....... Now, this is just a thought : Is your oven a correct temp? What I mean by that is have you checked the temp control to make sure it is actually at 350 when you set it at 350 degrees. I know someone had temp problems & had to have it adjusted because it was baking... -

ARCHIVED False Positive?
mamaw replied to kpyoung24's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, it is very rare but there can be false positive. That is what my readings were in the beginning. And one of the big celiac doctors agreed it happens, rarely but it happens. I asked that question while at a conference... hth mamaw -

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried The New gluten-free Bakery In Pittsburgh?
mamaw replied to Molecular Dude's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Hi Sue I can tell you to date the best hamburger bun is Against the Grain Gourmet out of Battleboro, Vt. I waited five years to actually have a burger on a real deal bun. I think most of the places that say they have burger buns are actually more like & look like a muffin type. Not my idea of a burger bun. These are excellent , they are buttery so... -
ARCHIVED Other People Touching Your Food.
mamaw replied to Juliebove's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You should be very proud of your daughter, she handled the situation like a pro. The man of the house in my opinion was not very respectful.. I personally would not tolerate such behavior from a supposedly adult. I think that was terrible & not very parent like.Children are supposed to learn from parents not the other way around.... If he lived at... -
ARCHIVED School Cafeteria . . . Disappointment
mamaw replied to Darn210's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I got to Colleen's post okay! That is so exciting to have a school district actually care about one student. We have a handful of private schools who prepare gluten-free foods each morning for their gluten-free student but never in the public school system. We were excited just to be permitted to use freezer space & a microwave!!! Maybe you could... -
ARCHIVED School Cafeteria . . . Disappointment
mamaw replied to Darn210's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We also pack lunches most of the time. I believe that is the safest way.Our school will heat foods or micro foods that we request be heated. Many days we actually make fesh at home & then run it to school... we try to match whatever the school menu has on there list for the day Ie: pizza on Monday, tacos on tues. We can let our crew eat the same items... -

Against the grain is working very hard to get across the US with their wonderful products. It is very time-comsuming to get distributors to move quickly...... eventually they hope to get into Whole Foods & if you have a WW near you keep asking for their products . They may get sick of getting the same request & speed up...... wonderful products... -

We eat oats several times a week but not Bob"s Brand. I have Cream Hill Estates or Lara's , gluten-free oats from powell WY & I got got quick oats from Only Oats. Of course all gluten-free. You can make oat flour to use in your recipes if you don't like to just eat them. The brands I have are not as you described. mamaw

Jan K If you haven't tried Anna's bread mixes you should!!! It is a great bread but if you were a town talk white bread person before going gluten-free the most likely you will not care for this bread. If you search the recipe section there is a great recipe by Lorka ( Laurie Crater) that everyone seems to love including my family. It is pretty forgiving...
