  1. Hi wikipedia I didn't know you had become self-aware!!! I'm sorry that you are suffering through all of this. :/ Looking through Libonati's Recognizing Celiac Disease, 2007 edition, there are a number of newly associated conditions with case study backup relating to both male and female reproductive issues and various menstrual irregularities...
  2. To second ravenwood, if you have a positive anti-gliadin IgA then you need to avoid wheat, barley, rye, spelt, triticale, and any of their family. While certified gluten-free (gluten-free) Oats may be OK for some GI (gluten-intolerant) persons, some cannot tolerate oats for a variety of reasons. I would suggest that you avoid them for an extended period as...
  3. If you are in the US, the ADA and HIPPA prohibit your employer from asking anything other than if you have any conditions which would impact your ability to perform the job for which you are applying. Even if this is so, if it is something for which reasonable accomodations can be made they are prohibited by federal law (and in some states there are ever...
  4. I have found that too. Someone at work who said she is gluten-free brought a gluten-free pasta to a BBQ, which made me happy, but I was sitting next to her and she was eating a bunch of random non-gluten-free desserts! She saw me eying them kinda suspiciously and said she knew she shouldn't have them, but they were so good! I don't know what my facial expression...
  5. Hi Dano, I was only diagnosed less than two months ago, and only been gluten-free and dairy free for two months and 4 days. So I know where you are coming from. One of the quickest places to start for was a book. A friend of ours whose husband and one of their kids has celiac gave loaned me a copy of 'Gluten-Free Living for Dummies'. I kid you not....
  6. Guar gum, but it is known to have a laxative effect for some people.
  7. I use Pacific Brand, which is gluten free. The first week of so of being gluten-free I was using Rice Dream, but after reading and checking up on it more we dropped it. And I do have a rice cooker.
  8. Thanks Fluffy -- I love your display name and avatar pic BTW Well I've been on Lexapro for 6 weeks for the anxiety, but my Dr. is tapering me off it as I think I'm having side-effects (hot flashes, sweating, stuff that didn't start until after I started the Lexapro). I'm taking supplements (gluten-free/SF/CF) including sublingual B12 and probiotics...
  9. How did you all cope? The euphoria of feeling halfway decent for the first time in years is starting to wear off as lingering symptoms and new/hidden intolerances crop up. I'm currently getting ready to tackle the GAPS diet (similar to the SCD) but my diet right now is pretty limited. I was feeling a lot better for a few weeks, I keep getting soyed and glutenated...
  10. Hiya I'm glad that you are on the road to recovery. I can only speak for myself, but I have to be extremely careful of cross-contamination. I learned this the hard way. Also after doing a lot of research, one of the things that I've learned is that some people react to amounts as small as 5 mg of gluten protein. To put this in perspective, there are...
  11. Hi Jana, Is it possible he has developed an sensitivity or intolerance to rice due to the sudden high (I assume) amount he is eating? You can develop an intolerance to anything. Have you tried changing to things like arrowroot and sorghum flours, tapioca starch and flour, etc?
  12. Before I was diagnosed, it hurt all over at different times and places. Lower right (below bellybutton) - usually a dull ache, sometimes throbbing, sometimes a sharper ache. This often (about 50% of the time) preceded an urgent BM. Middle low (below bellybutton) general discomfort, bloated, "icky" feeling. Left low/mid (below bellybutton and across...
  13. Actually it isn't necessarily mental. It is called Dysgeusia, and it has been noted to have increased frequency in celiac disease, is caused by a B3 (niacin), B12, or Zinc deficiency. celiac disease related dygeusia resolves on a gluten-free diet. There are other causes for this however, so you should most certainly mention it to your doctor. Diabetes, hypothyroidism...
  14. Gemini: Thank you as well. This has been bothering me too. We have some nice cookware - not your calibre probably but not bad, and we take great care with all of our cooking items, so getting rid of them has been a problem. Also since my wife is a Pampered Chef consultant, this has presented some issues we're trying to figure out (I went gluten-free...
  15. Hope things work out and you find the answers you need. I'm curious though why you seem so determined not to try going gluten-free until instructed to do by the specialist if you are suffering? There are many people on here who never got a 'positive' confirmed test, but were diagnosed through dietary response.
  16. Well a number of the symptoms you describe are identical or similar to ones that I've had (chronic rhinitis, GI issues, psych, neuro, and muscular issues). Have you had a endoscopic biopsy done, been tested for Lyme disease, and I would strongly suggest you tell your Dr. about the flat stringy things in your stool. That sounds very much like tapeworm segments...
  17. One of the problems with this type of diet, which I am also on, is getting enough animal fat. Any type of cooking oil other than clarified butter (which is non-dairy as it no longer contains the Casein protein) or animal fat (pork, beef, poultry, fish, etc) breaks down into trans-saturated fat when heated. You need to make sure that you are getting enough...
  18. Hi Twiggy, Both of my blood workups were negative for IgA, as was my Dad's and my sister's. Both of them were diagnosed positive via dietary response for GI and my Dad was diagnosed based on dietary response. But my fecal IgA test was positive, even though the stool sample was taken on the day following one of the blood draws. Since going gluten-free...
  19. One thing that they do point out is that some people (and this tends to possibly run in families as well) have a low IgA count to begin with. The ultimate test is what your body is telling you which seems to be: stay off gluten! If you eat it and have a reaction, then you have a reaction regardless of the anti-body numbers. Tests may produce incorrect results...
  20. Hi Brianna, Given what I've read so far, I'd really suggest you take a look at the GAPS (Gut And Psychology Syndrome) diet. Its specific focus is on rebuilding the correct healthy flora balance in your gut. Once that is done, as some people have pointed out already, a number of other issues may resolve themselves. As a vegan though it may create a problem...
  21. One of the things you may also be dealing with is bacterial imbalance, especially if you have ever had any antibiotics. I would suggest you make sure that you are getting good protein, raw honey (no refined sugar), lots of non-starchy veggies, plenty of ripe fruit, and take a good mixed probiotic like PB-8 or Multibiotic-10. Keep on that for about 6 weeks...
  22. Umm....I never said it was a diagnostic test. I said it might help her at least be aware if she or some of her family members may have a higher risk factor. The fact that I was diagnosed and carried the genetic predisposition was the factor that caused one of my sibling's doctor to have her tested via biopsy and it came back positive. So there can be significant...
  23. I ate gluten all my life. So for 40 years and 2 days. I went gluten-free two days after my 40th birthday. Talk about a great birthday present!!!! Ulcer Thyroid Liver Gall Bladder Mono Hernia Celiac/Gluten (blood work was negative twice) Colo-rectal cancer/Colonoscopy Nutrient Deficiency GERD Heart (Gamma radiation dye injection...
  24. Hi, Among many other symptoms over the last 20 years, for the last 5 years I was dealing with anxiety and continual panic attacks. In the last year it had reached a point that I was beginning to suffer adrenal and pineal gland issues as my body was losing the ability to produce cortisol and process all the stress hormones. This was really messing with...
  25. Hi HiO, I was gluten-free for about a 1 1/2 weeks, and was actually starting to feel worse. So on a chance, I also cut out Dairy. Within a week I started feeling better. Turned out that as my system started to purge itself of the reaction gluten, my reaction to cow's milk and all related substances (which I am also allergic to). Also, are you...
