  1. What about various meats and eggs? Have you looked into sulfite/salicylates/glutamates? Could you have a protein allergy?

    ARCHIVED Confused

Ohhh...yeah. Sauces, marinades, glazes. Those are hard unless you make them yourself. Even then finding appropriate ingredient substitutes can be interesting. There is a local (to me) company that makes fantastic dressings and marinades (Open Original Shared Link). I ran into them at a Christmas bazaar at our local fairgrounds. They are wonderful and the...
  3. Phasing out is bad. You will have some days where you don't have any gluten and your body will start to heal. Then you re-introduce some gluten and your body will react even worse. I don't want to scare you or discourage you, but gluten-free is all or nothing.
  4. I'll get the name for you after I go to the store tomorrow. We ran out a couple days ago and it isn't payday yet. I blend it into our morning breakfast drink which usually consists of an (organic) fuji apple (anything but red delicious), frozen bananna, some kale, collard greens, red swiss chard, a carrot, some adams organic natural peanut butter, flax...
  5. There is for many people a withdrawal period. I didn't notice it because I'd been so sick that I felt wonderful. But after that there was a period where I felt SO good I felt like I was high! (My wife was a little worried in fact) That lasted about two weeks, then I crashed and had a rough patch for a little bit but it turned around. I've talked to other...
  6. Hi sylvia! I'm sorry it has take so long to get back to you. Wow, you've had quite a journey. I did not know that cornstarch contains sulphites. I'm doing research right now on sulfites and I think this might be a part of it. The delayed reaction bit you mentioned is interesting because that seems to be one of the things I'm having problems with. My...

    ARCHIVED Confused

It is very overwhelming. When I started I went through something similar for a couple weeks, then I decided I was trying to absorb too much information too quickly. So I went to a raw foods/paleolithic diet (basically no processed foods or grains). That gave me some significant healing and removed a ton of the stress and let me focus on learning what to eat...
  8. I have to say (as a parent of three grown children who survived their teen years ) that I'm pretty familiar with tough love and that wasn't it. Andrew's reply was only slightly better. I found it rude and it wasn't even directed at me. I know you already got chastised by someone but I'm going to echo them and say that "tough love" implies that you are in...
  9. Hi Jenn, I don't know how long you've been gluten-free, but after about three months gluten-free my body started pitching a fit about pretty much any refined sugar. And refined corn is the worst for me. Corn syrup in any form, corn starch, etc. I can eat raw (fresh or frozen) corn, the the more processed it is the worse I react to it. I get nauseous, gassy...
  10. Pacific brand rice, almond, hazelnut, and oat milks are all gluten-free, SF, CF, and LF. I'm also super sensitive and cannot tolerate Rice Dream. Hemp Dream seems to be OK though. Blue Diamond puts soy lecithin in their almond milk. By the way, Pacific makes a chocolate hazelnut that when blended up with a frozen banana, a couple frozen strawberries, coconut...
  11. LOL - I had the same experience the first time. They have to be eaten warm. Grill them in a pan with a little coconut oil (or oil of your preference) or oil-free in a good non-stick skillet (gluten free of course!) Then serve them with whatever.
  12. Hi Leah, I have suffered as much (if not more) mental, CNS, and neurological symptoms as GI. Panic attacks, anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, muscle twitching (Fasciculations), myoclonus (large muscle spasms), peripheral neuropathy (tingling and numbness in the extremities). My panic attacks, anxiety, and insomnia began to improve almost immediately (within...
  13. Possibly the degree of CC? Early on I had some foods that were produced on the same line as gluten containing products, now I can't even have ones that are in a shared facility unless they are very rigorous in their cleaning process (dried beans that have been triple washed seem to be OK for me for example).
  14. Unfortunately - or fortunately I guess depending on your point of view - yes, that is very common. The reactions often will get more severe and rapid. However some people say that after a while (couple years) the intensity may subside somewhat.
  15. Hi Cecily! I totally relate with the feeling. I would suggest that you start with a switch to unprocessed foods (fresh/dried/frozen fruit, veggies, meats, eggs, etc). Give away all your condiments (dressings, sauces, etc) and mixed seasonings and mixed spices. Also any plastic bowls or utensils you have used for anything like pasta, bread, cereal, etc...
  16. Yes, I have had similar issues. I have been gluten-free/CF/SF since April of this year (2009) and found some of this same thing happening to me. It has been somewhat scary. I think that some of it is related to the neurological component of celiac disease is being found to be far more common than thought, but I also think some of it is nutritional issues...
  17. Start taking a look at the amount of soy in everything. It is in chocolate, many brands of nut milks, soups, broths, tea, syrups, etc, etc, etc,. It is in almost as many things as gluten. The one positive thing is that since it is one of the top 8 allergens, the FDA requires it to be clearly labelled. Though I have found a couple instances where I have had...
  18. Ok, I have to say that I was reading this thread thinking, wow, when would I ever use the little green guy. They I got to the quoted post, read it, and found that yes, I too could have used the little green guy!
  19. Hey GG, I have to say I have had the same experience and wound up in the same place Ciavyn has. I pretty much can't seem to handle any processed foods or ingredients. The more refined it is, the worse I react. A little here and a little there (some every few days) seems to be OK, but more than that and I start having various reactions. A perfect example of...
  20. Does he have a soy intolerance or allergy? A lot of tea's have soy lecithin added as a dispersing agent.
  21. Kill the caffeine and sugar and no grains or beans at all. You need to check into Adrenal Fatigue. Take a look at the quick questionnaire at adrenalfatigue.com (I have no affiliation other than I have had tremendous life changes and improvements after beginning treatment for 'moderate' adrenal fatigue). Also watch the decaf tea as some of them are NOT...
  22. I have told all of my family members, and many of my co-workers! Because of that two immediate family members (of 10) have been diagnosed with celiac and one was already diagnosed very intolerant of gluten, casein, soy, and lactose but none of us knew about it (she never talked about it). Two other co-workers have been tested, three are on gluten-free diets...
  23. It's not an internet thing, its a people thing but it is magnified by the lack of societal constructs normally provided by face to face contact. There aren't any repercussions for socially inappropriate behaviour. =D People tend don't feel the social constraints they would in RL. I've been out here since there was an internet and way back when there were...
  24. Hi Sleepie, I developed severe muscle twitching and myoclonus, and it is indeed related to gluten for me as well as soy. I have been strictly gluten-free since April 2009, and soy and casein free since May 2009. I have a number of neuromuscular and CNS issues triggered by both gluten and soy. The peripheral neuropathy is not strictly related to a vitamin...
  25. Since going gluten-free, I've found that I do not tolerate corn syrup (HF or regular) or almost any refined sugars. Natural sugars (that are in whole fruits and veggies) seem to be fine no matter the quantity (good thing since I love apples!!!) and raw (unprocessed) sugars such as raw honey, raw agave, maple syrup (real) seem to be fine. Pasturized and processed...
