  1. Look at the GAPS diet. Open Original Shared Link After being on this for 6 weeks I'm starting to finally see some of my fatigue and exhaustion begin to subside as well as some of the other symptoms of various deficiencies. I realized that the fundamental problem was continuing malabsorbtion of various things due to long term damage to the bacterial system...
  2. That is very possible, but there is also can be a significant withdrawal effect from gluten. Some research has show a opioid like effect upon the brain from the gliadin fragments.
  3. Arrgh...there is NO cure for Celiac disease. Upon a complete gluten free diet there may be 100% remission of symptoms and eventually even in the best case 100% healing of damage, but there is NO CURE for the disease.
  4. Oh good! Are you taking a good pro biotic? PB-8 Vegetarian is a good one and is reasonable priced if you get it on line.
  5. gfb, I still have to disagree. There is a benefit in that according to everything I have read a NEGATIVE TEST showing none of the markers excludes celiac disease. This means to me that the genetic testing DOES indeed have a benefit. Mama, My dr. accepted my Enterolab results (see my signature) in conjunction with a positive dietary response since all...
  6. Karrin, take a look at the GAPS diet. Open Original Shared Link It sounds like you might be a candidate for it. I'm in just preparing to start it next week.
  7. Looking back on it now, my symptoms began showing up when I was about 19. I also started gradually gaining weight. When I was in my early 20's I was actively (heavily) studying and pursuing Martial Arts. I was going to class 4 nights a week and on Saturday (a total of 11 2 1/2 to 3 hour classes). It was all I could to to maintain my weight at 190 lbs. When...
  8. Are you kidding? Snopes is awesome for debunking urban legends. I finally got some of my friends to stop forwarding me junk by doing a 'reply all' to some of their emails, and pointedly referring them to snopes, including the link for the specific legend/email/whatever, and the copying and pasting the relevant paragraphs. After a couple of 'reply all' in...
  9. Hi Lawspike, Welcome to the club and welcome to healing Six key books that I think every Celiac needs ( I have purchased all of these so this is a personal 'starter kit' recommendation ): Gluten-Free Quick & Easy: From Prep to Plate Without the Fuss - 200+ Recipes for People with Food Sensitivities Gluten-Free Cooking For Dummies ...
  10. Nightshades (peppers, tomatoes, potatoes)? Also for me, I experience the anxiety and panic attacks from Soy almost as badly as I do with gluten.
  11. I had neither weight loss or excessive weight gain. I had gradual weight gain over 20 years that was attributed to, "You need to exercise more, you need to eat better," etc, etc. Since I have been gluten, casein, soy, starch, and sucrose free I have lost 30# in the last three months. I haven't been able to stop the gradual weight gain for 20 years. just a lb...
  12. The more research I do the more concerned I get because it seems that a lot of us with celiac disease are miss the whole gut health and nutritional deficiency issue during the first few months/years. I have found that due to gut damage and BACTERIAL IMBALANCE due to both celiac disease and various rounds of anti-biotics over the years, my intestinal bacterial...
  13. Hi Pac, Reading through your post you sound like me. You probably have a throughly compromised digestive system and complete bacterial imbalance in your small intestine. Take a look at the GAPS diet which is specifically designed for rebuilding your intestinal flora and allowing your intestinal tract to heal and repair. I've been prepping for a few weeks...
  14. Oh my goodness. I'm 40 now, but when around when I turned 19 or 20 (the same time some of my other visible symptoms showed up but went undiagnosed for 20 years) I started having similar problems including (occasionally) the wierd stools. I used to use baby powder all the time, and would constantly make quick trips to the bathroom to wipe myself. I would even...
  15. Yes. My blood work came back negative, however my Dr. accepted my Enterolab results + response to a gluten-free diet as a positive celiac diagnosis. My dad's first blood work and biopsy came back negative, however his second blood work came back positive for anti-gliadin, and borderline for tTG. Also a stasically high percentage of Celiac patients (compared...
  16. I know you addressed this to ravenwood, but I wanted to chip in my $0.02 as well. hydrolyzed vegetable protein can be made from wheat, soy, dairy, or corn. Unless the source is specifically listed you cannot trust it. As far as the 'quantity of wheat' question, I cannot tolerate ANY. I can't even eats Lay's classic potato chips, which are gluten-free...
  17. For me getting a positive test result was wonderful. Finding out what was wrong, that I wasn't losing my mind, that I wasn't necessarily dying, and that there was a treatment for what was going on was the greatest blessing in the world for me!!!
  18. This appears to be normal. I have been gluten-free, CF, and SF for a couple months now, and there are definitely ups and downs. Good days and bad days. It can be frustrating and depressing sometime as there are days I feel like I'm going backwards. But eventually I come out of them and each time I feel a little better for a little longer.
  19. Hi Matt, I got bit by the fact that a lot of dried beans and stuff (for making my own soup - slow cookers rock!) were produced on production lines which process soy and wheat products.
  20. My gluten and soy reaction is similar but with some time in the bathroom. Gluten = Panic, anxiety, depression, insomnia, muscle spasm/twitching and headache. Dairy sends me to the bathroom, severe heartburn, phlegm, and coughing (rhinitis). Soy gives me even worse reaction than gluten + almost immediate sinus congestion. These have been demonstrated through...
  21. Ok, well I was just worried when I saw that. There are gluten sources in medications (over the counter and prescription), salad dressings, ice cream (almost anything with malt or malt flavouring), etc. etc. So I wanted to make sure you were catching that.
  22. Yes, and yes if you are going completely gluten free. There will be up and down periods though. Those can be rough because you may feel as if you are losing ground. You have to realize that your body has potentially suffered years of damage and it isn't going to heal overnight, but realize that you will get through it. Just remember that with gluten free...
  23. Two friends of ours with celiac disease and GI own a catering service, and everything they prepare is gluten free, including all the baked goods. One of them is so sensitized to gluten he cannot even slice regular bread without having a reaction. Nobody knows they are eating gluten-free. I cooked for quite a few years for a living and trained under a...
  24. I have had similar issues. I had a very rapid improvement when I went gluten-free, then I started to deteriorate again. As I eliminated various things I found that I am sucrose (sugar), soy, and casein (I knew this from my lab work but didn't want to accept it) intolerant. I actually have an almost immediate response to soy that is even worse than my gluten...
  25. According to the research I've seen, 50% of all celiac disease are also dairy intolerant though the ratio of lactose::casein isn't clear. That said, a percentage of them appear - after some period of time ranging from months to years - to be able to tolerate some limited amount of dairy. I personally am also casein, soy, sucrose, and maltose intolerant, and...
