ARCHIVED Recovery Time Question For celiac disease Induced Myoclonus
Korwyn replied to Korwyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Most of what we buy fruitwise are things we peel or cut up and we get the bagged cheap apples. They aren't cosmetically appealing so they don't polish and wax them. Plus the Gala and Fuji apples have much more actual nutritional content than the 'Red Delicious' which are basically just sugar factories. I'm also quite sensitive. I had a reaction to Lay's... -
ARCHIVED One Kind Of Dairy Ok, But Not Another?
Korwyn replied to Korwyn's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
No MSG, no colouring. I picked the berries myself from our property and it was all homemade. The only other thing that I can think of that was something not frequently eaten was cornstarch and some of the rice and tapioca flours. But...they were all in some blueberry muffins we made recently and I had no reaction to them at all and I've made two batches of... -
ARCHIVED One Kind Of Dairy Ok, But Not Another?
Korwyn posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I tested positive for Casein reaction, and have been almost totally off dairy since may except for four times and I have a question. The first two times were each a medium think slice of cheese (white cheddar I think) about 2-3 oz. I experienced no reaction to them. #1 was about three months ago, #2 was last month some time. The second two were both a gluten... -
On a followup note, I have been taken off all my anti-stress, anxiety meds as well. !!! No more lexapro or wellbutrin. Which is good because I hate taking meds. And, I forgot to mention that I consider myself to be a 'super-sensitive' due to some issues with CC in products that were produced in a 'facility which also processes products containing wheat,...

It wasn't until I removed both soy and dairy from my diet that my anxiety and panic attacks began to subside. I too got worse with these after going gluten-free, and it was because the proportion of soy suddenly quintupled as I replaced dairy with soy milk, and soy flour in my baking. For me the soy will trigger extreme anxiety and panic, myoclonus, and hot...

ARCHIVED At What Point Do I Start Salting My Food Again?
Korwyn replied to The Fluffy Assassin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's funny you would mention this since I went through exactly the same thing. I actually added salt back into my diet after 3 months of eating a paleolithic diet (fresh fruits, veggies, meat, eggs) because I was starting to experience some issues like lightheadedness (low blood-pressure) and extreme headaches, especially after drinking water. My normal water... -
ARCHIVED Recovery Time Question For celiac disease Induced Myoclonus
Korwyn replied to Korwyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Sylvia, Oh yes. Peppers (nightshade), soy, gluten, sugar, corn-syrup, and starchy carbs are triggers. Soy, peppers, and the processed sugars are the fastest and worst. Non-processed fructose (fresh fruit) seems to be ok in moderation, but too much really sweet fruit does trigger it however it subsides in a couple of days. Corn-syrup and refined sugar... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Mental Symptoms?
Korwyn replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes. I went through several rounds of heart tests, dye injections, stress tests, a CAT scan, etc. I had all the symptoms of a classic heart attack, but it was completely normal. This went on for years. Not to mention the mental issues (panic attack, anxiety, etc). Since going gluten free (and soy free for me also) I haven't had any chest pains whatsoever... -
For those who deal (or dealt with) celiac disease and GI triggered myoclonus and panic attacks, how long after going gluten-free did it take for those symptoms to fade to nothing (if they did) or to a stable level? My myoclonus didn't start until my celiac disease went full blown, and it is also brought on by soy and possibly sugar. It's been almost four...

A massive bout of C. Diff is what triggered my celiac disease. I went two full rounds of anti-biotics, the first time was a full IV drip mega dose with a 10-day followup, the second time being a 21 day series of flagyl. You need to get onto VitaminShoppe.com (or someplace local) and get two or three bottles of Sachromyces Boulardi. It needs to be kept refrigerated...

Yes there is. Amenorhea and both male and female infertility have been linked to celiac disease and GI. According to 'Recognizing Celiac Disease' in Appendix B (Symptoms and Associated Conditions) both of these conditions have been linked to untreated celiac disease and may respond well to a strict gluten-free diet. There is also some associated research...

ARCHIVED Changing This Recipe To Gluten-free
Korwyn replied to dubstogsdill's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You will need to substitute xanthan or guar gum or use a gluten-free flour with it already added. I would suggest that you purchase a pre-mixed gluten-free flour like Bob's Red Mill or Pamela's. -
Hi Nancy, As a number of others have posted, yes this is normal. For me both gluten and soy produce almost identical reactions, though the soy is even more extreme. My reactions are extreme anxiety and panic attacks, depression, restlessness, RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome), muscle spasms (myoclonus) which sometimes start in my stomach (feels like a something...

ARCHIVED Bulk Foods
Korwyn replied to RideAllWays's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wouldn't trust the bulk bins at all but I'm having a hard time finding gluten free dried beans for soups. So many of the packaged dried beans/peas are labelled as produced in a mixed production facility I'm scared to try any of them. -
ARCHIVED Panicky About My Son's Illnesses
Korwyn replied to AConSmith's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You said earlier he went on what he thought was a gluten-free diet for a couple weeks. Some (many) people begin to respond immediately, but not all. Some can take up to 6 weeks to begin seeing a positive response. Given what you've said if it was me I would go onto a strict elimination diet, and remove all dairy (including eggs), all grains (all non-vegetable... -
Gluten intolerance is not just a milder version of Celiac. Celiac is a auto-immune disease triggered secondary to a pathological response to the gluten protein. Simple gluten intolerance will not cause auto-immune disorder. However that said, GI can be a sickening as celiac disease and can lead to a host of other issues such as leaky gut, which can cause...

ARCHIVED Allergies To Wheat And Corn, Losing Weight Fast
Korwyn replied to TBA's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Nuts and nut milk can also be very high in protein. You say wheat, but are you actually gluten intolerant, or do you have a true wheat allergy (or both) ? Can you eat rye/barley/spelt, etc? -
ARCHIVED How Is A False Negative Possible? (if It Looks Like A Duck...)
Korwyn replied to Tim86's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It doesn't have anything to do necessarily with being IgA deficient, it is just that the blood tests have a low sensitivity (as compared to specificity). Some of the statistics I've seen are as high as 80%. My doctor told me that she has never seen a positive blood work up come back even with some people confirmed later through biopsy. There are a lot of... -
ARCHIVED Can Stool Test Show Antibodies That Were Missesd By Blood Test?
Korwyn replied to Sandi*'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I may be reading those incorrectly, but it appears as if your total serum IgA is extremely low which probably means you are IgA deficient (not uncommon for celiac disease - unusual but not extremely rare according to the research I've read). This would mean that your gliadin IgA will never register a positive test even though you are having a positive dietary... -
ARCHIVED Tingling Fingers?
Korwyn replied to yogamommytrainer99's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Not long before I was diagnosed and went gluten-free, I also started experiencing numbness and tingling (my decline was very rapid once my celiac disease triggered full blown). These have almost completely cleared up after 3+ months gluten-free/SF/CF. -
ARCHIVED I'm Thinking I May Have Celiac
Korwyn replied to lauriegie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Laurie and welcome to the board! If you have been spending all day reading the forums, you know that many of your symptoms can be related to celiac disease, either directly or indirectly. Have you asked your PCP what they think about the possibility of celiac disease? If not, or if you are so desperate from the rapid decline (as I was) you can go gluten... -
ARCHIVED Just Got Results Back-positive
Korwyn replied to Jennifer2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
Korwyn replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
That is wierd. I have been having more issues typing and with my memory since I went gluten-free. I'm wondering if I'm dealing with a nutrient deficiency caused by the radical change in my diet. It it very frustrating and frankly I'm more than a little worried and scared sometimes by it. -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
Korwyn replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
@Patti - Thank you for this thread also! Lizard: I'm there. I was up last night with an anxiety attack and myoclonus (muscle spasms/twitching) from TWO bites of a gluten-free/DF cupcake, but the frosting had soy. And I'm super sensitive to gluten as well - factory cross-contamination gets me too. I'm also sensitive to corn syrup and at least one... -
I understand and relate. I've been on Wellbutrin and Lexapro, though right now I'm not on anything. I didn't have much luck with Lexapro and was actually having more symptoms while on it. I'm awake right now (It is 11:22 PM) because I'm having an anxiety attack. I got glutened at a neighbors BBQ. I was going through a brief phase where I was starting wonder...
